A pop up window for Crown Store on char load! Seriously?

Oh yeah, and more agrees on my post than on any of yours so there you go.
Because the thousands of other people who didn't care about the popup saw the whining in the title and decided not to click on it in the first place.
So of course you're going to get a majority of the agrees, which means nothing.

First of all: It is SO RUDE and dismissive to say WHINING. Stating an opinion is not whining. You of all people should know that.

Seriously. You lead with that and then I just don't care what else you say.

I don't want to get into a whole argument, but an opinion is, "I feel a popup window for the crown store is wrong, and here's why". Your title looked more of a whine to me, yes.
Also, exaggerative statements in the OP such as "Am I gonna need AD Blocker - ESO Edition? I guess I'll get in touch with them about an add-on." is another clear indication of whining.

I don't have too much of a problem with it, provided it remains an occasional thing rather than daily or weekly, and it only appears once per account login. I would, however, be much happier with an option for subscribers to disable it.

    Wait... seriously?
You're upset about a window that you can close down in a split second?
It's useful for people that like to know what's added in the game.
I looked at it, regardless of whether or not I'm planning on buying anything, I still like to know what's new.
I'm glad they did it and I can't believe that it's actually a big deal to some people to close out of one little notification that pops up once.

If only there was some sort of launcher that provided sound bites and possibly had a picture to it indicating that there was say, a new Mind Shriven Horse in the Crown Store. That would be a useful, and yet still passive means of advertising crown store items.

This follows a parallel that I believe the best advertisement for Linux adoption is the pushy Windows 10 adverts.

You're misrepresenting what they said. It's actually easy to see where what they said isn't what you thought they said, because you provided the quotes that show that they didn't say what you're saying they said.*

We don’t plan on doing the in-game messaging anymore. That was, honestly, just to get the word out about the Senche-Leopard due to the very limited amount of time it was being offered. We heard our players loud and clear that they didn’t like the in-game messaging, so it’s gone the way of the dinosaurs. We’re working on better in-game messaging about limited-time offers and sales that aren’t as intrusive.
And now here we are, with better in-game messaging about limited-time offers and sales that aren't as intrusive.

*Note: I said saying and said way too many times there. That was ridiculous of me, and I apologize in advance to anyone who reads what I said.

Here we are with a better in-game messaging system that is not as intrusive?

Are you kidding me? How is replacing an in-game message annoucement with an in-your face pop ad you can't turn off and your forced to look at in any way "better and unobtrusive"?
Really? You're actually trying to claim that a one-time pop-up on login that you can instantly get rid of with one click isn't better and less obtrusive than having big yellow letters pop up right in the middle of your screen over and over multiple times while you're in the middle of playing the game, along with a sound to announce them, and with no way to exit out of them? I call ***.

    Your missing the point!

There should be an opt-out. I should have the option of turning them off permanently if i don't want to see them, I should never be forced to see it.

Can i make this anymore clear to you? Where is my option to opt-out?

Regardless, this discussion has outlived its usefulness. Its obvious you don't see repercussions of this....just wait till they start changing the Crown store twice a week...suddenly instead of it being a once a month thing its a multiple time per week thing...and that will be coming next.

These types of Ads don't belong in anything short of a F2P game...any game with a sub or folks buying the game to play have the expectation to not be hounded with in-game advertisements all the time....but whatever...i have said my part......the lack of an opt-out option is unacceptable....just give it a few months, you will see what i was talking about.

    Good day
Nice attempt to change the topic there, but you know I never said I was against having an option to opt out. You know perfectly well that what I took issue with is you being *ahem* creative with the truth.

So please do go ahead and explain how a one-time pop-up on login that you can instantly get rid of with one click isn't better and less obtrusive than having big yellow letters pop up right in the middle of your screen over and over multiple times while you're in the middle of playing the game, along with a sound to announce them, and with no way to exit out of them.

I can understand why some people would be horribly averse to this. I would even agree that there should be an option to disable the message, especially for people that sub to ESO Plus.

That said, I sub, and I would actually NOT turn this feature off, even if given the option to do so. I'm one of the people that actually take an interest in what's being sold on the crown store, and find this a convenient way to let me know when offerings change.

Having been around for the debacle that was the original in-game announcement messages (which I hated vehemently and was thoroughly opposed to), I can honestly say that I really like this approach.

But yes, for the types of people that are just patently against the crown store, and would never be interested in purchasing anything, a way to turn off the announcement is probably not an unreasonable request.

This is definitely the most elegant solution. A notice that's seen on log-in when you literally could not possibly be doing anything in the game is so much classier than spamming server messages or integrating those kind of advertisements across all the menus like most games do. People in zone chat didn't even know that Imperial City was a thing, now at least everyone is getting that information.
This follows a parallel that I believe the best advertisement for Linux adoption is the pushy Windows 10 adverts.

What harm would come from making this optional?

Honestly, it would take more time to go into my settings and make it optional than it took me to make it disappear!!

(Well, after I admired the goat, of course.)

    First world problems. Yeah.

Except it will come back dozens of times in the future. Eventually the time spent disabling it will be less than the time spent closing it. Some people are incredibly shortsighted.

I'm sorry, but I stand with Jim Sterling on this issue. I paid full price and then subbed for as long as I thought the game was worth the sub cost. Soon as things stopped making me happy, I stopped paying. Zeni won't see another cent from me until the game changes back to the way I liked and didn't mind paying them.

In case you're wondering what Jim Sterling's view on the subject matter is, here:

I am not spending a single penny on the game until changes are made to the game that I want to see.
    1) Remove having to be in a guild to sell items to other players at a kiosk.
    2) Cosmetic modding for armor and clothing.
    3) Difficulty slider.
    4) Fully customizable player housing that isn't tied to anything in the game other than having the correct resources and enough gold to build. Don't tie it to PvP, guild membership, or anything at all. Oh, make it instanced so as not to take up world map space, too. Zeni screwed this one up already.
Any /one/ of these things implemented would get me spending again, maybe even subbing.

Because there was HUGE NEED to be so offensive?

I am not passionate about this. I am annoyed by it.

I feel I WILL need an add on if I have to keep looking at this.

I am still annoyed that this game ever went free to play and now because someone cannot check for their precious crown rubbish without a special reminder, by clicking the huge obvious link in the Launcher, how should THAT be my problem?

I admit I am annoyed. Of course I am. I didn't want a rubbish crown store in the first place.

They already send mails about it, you cannot bloody miss it in the launcher and now pop up ad?

I don't really give a rip whether you or anyone agrees with me or not. Send anyone who is not supporting the game whatever crap you like but leave me out of it.

This is not complicated. Yet again it is also not whining.

I've unsubbed from this thread because I don't feel like arguing either.

While I agree that it was a bit obtrusive and we do have adverts on the launcher anyway, I would rather have it in this manner than the big yellow letters flashing across the screen when I am questing or in battle. At least it appears just after you log in, and not while you're actually in game. I did think it was nice to have a notice that new things were there.

That said, I can certainly understand why some people might want an opt out and that should be doable on the options.

Also this game is NOT Free to Play. It is Buy to Play; you still have to buy it to play it. It just isnt Sub to Play any more.

I never thought i'd see the day folks would defend a company for forcing popup advertising in your face...sure you can close it but your FORCED to look at it with ZERO way to opt out.

There should always be a way to opt out of this kind of stuff, ZOS offers no way to do so...even if you hide the message once as soon as they change something in the store, its back...thats just ridiclious....

This is ridiculous, you have to move your mouse a quarter of a centimetre, depending on your mouse settings to hit an x to close the screen. Is it REALLY that much of a big deal? It isn't like they are advertising "win 100000000 dollars in 30 seconds " or " find your perfect Asian girlfriend today!" every 20 seconds, it is just popping up once, per update, per account. So what, that is maybe once a month?

People will complain about breathing soon.

Naah it still needs to pop-up cause ppl miss out on info and then post in the forums....honestly I even wants the patch notes to pop-up the first time so ppl might actually read them.

Look at the forums....most topics today and yesterday are specifically addressed in patch notes but as pointed out...so few go there to read or don't know to go there so this is a happy medium and informative.

OK guys, look at it from a business perspective, keeping in mind I understand your annoyance and don't disagree with you feeling that way.
Your subscription, what do you get? You get an allotment of crowns worth the same price as your membership. So basically, you're getting a free subscription with 10% bonuses on top of that. All you're really doing is committing to buying, for example, 1,500 crowns per month. That's it.
Now, let's look at their Crown store. They don't have much. Why? Because they are trying their hardest to stay away from P2W items like other MMOs to try and keep everyone happy. I can respect that.
The featured item I saw when I logged in yesterday was the goat. SO many people were harping for that, so they probably thought it would be a nice surprise.
Running an MMO of this size is not cheap, and I really don't know how they afford it by selling a few mounts and costumes. If they want to show a feature crown store popup ONCE when the crown store is updated, so I can see what's new, then yes please, go ahead.
I'm also not against an option for subscribers to turn it off in their account settings if they don't wish to ever see it again.

Considering this was the first time it has ever happened, and it basically said in the patch notes which the OP didn't bother reading this was going to be a pretty rare occurrence, I think people in this thread were completely overreacting.
And this is coming from someone who has subscribed for a long time.

It's not a pop up ad. It's an information window that tells you when new content arrives in a game that you already bought and play. Pop up ads are invasive windows that often appear every single time you load a web page and block what you are looking at - often about some crap item that has nothing to do with the subject you are viewing. Totally different.
