A pop up window for Crown Store on char load! Seriously?

I am sorry but NO WAY.

I pay a sub and I do not appreciate basically Pop up ads I have to close or wait for them to close before I can do anything with my character.

Am I gonna need AD Blocker - ESO Edition? I guess I'll get in touch with them about an add-on.

How do you know it's a one time thing?

I've never seen it before, so.

Also, a text chat message 'Crown Store Updated' is sufficient.

Not a pop-up ad. Just no on that.

Also, if people like you start saying it's OK, it's just gonna creep in more and more.

I am saying no, right now.

If you read patch notes you would know it only appears when crown store is updated

    Crown Store
    General
The Crown Store will now be able to display Limited Time Offers.
Announcements for featured Crown Store items will now display upon login, and will only reappear when the featured section has changed if the prompt is dismissed.
Note: These will only appear once per account, not each time you log into a new character.
    - Patch Notes

It's only a one-time notification, unless the Crown Store changes, which isn't too regular to be an issue really.

So nobody reads the patch notes? *

This is a one-time thing that you'll see the first time you log on to a character on your account (but not on each character) when there's something that's different in the featured items on the Crown Store. It's so that people are aware of the new stuff, but it's only one time so that it's not annoying.

*Other than @AmmonErebos and @KriHavok anyway...

Fair enough I didn't read the patch notes - but I still strongly disagree with this and dislike it utterly.

It was offering me XP scrolls (I didn't look at the rest) and said nothing about check out new crown store.

I do not care why or how often because one pop-up window in a game I already pay for is too many.

There are plenty of other ways to do this that are not this crude and tacky.

I strongly disagree with you. This is the best way to make sure people are aware of new offerings without being overly intrusive, and it's neither crude nor tacky. Having notices on the forums doesn't work because most people don't come to the forums, and even the ones who do frequently miss notices here. Having notices on the launcher doesn't work because a lot of people don't even use the launcher except when they need patches, and of the people who do use the launcher, people don't usually pay any attention to what shows up there. Having a system notification pop up while you're in the middle of playing (as they tried that one time) doesn't work because it only helps if you happen to be online at the time the notification comes up, so they have to do it multiple times in order to catch as many people as possible, and that's annoying as hell for people who are online and playing.

A one-time pop-up on login when things have changed is the best way to keep people from whining that they didn't know something was available and they missed it (and there has been a lot of that), while still being totally reasonable and not annoying.

I'm sorry, but I find your position on this to be 100% unreasonable.

Do you? It must be a preference thing. I preferred those lol.

This was in game, I loaded into my character and could do nothing till I clocked close on this pop up ad.

I don't really care if other people think I am 'crying' (I assure you I am not.) or whatever. I feel that if I don't say anything it is acquiescence to this sort of thing when it is not.

I'd much prefer this instead of pop-ups IN-GAME... this is a much better method of advertisement.

That being said, I think if you are a subscriber to ESO+ you should have the option to turn off the popup.

It's an infrequent reminder of crown store changes. Best instance I remember seeing this was in a video when someone was on pts, loaded in and saw the goat in the crown store. That is what it's for, text banners that fade or text in chat are easy to miss. If you want an example of excessive ads you should look at planet side 2 a long while ago...

I agree with @UrQuan wholeheartedly. I have seen dozens of threads here on the forums about how people missed out on limited time items because they didn't know. ONE pop-up on ONE characters only when the crown store is changing is a good thing. I have no idea why it was trying to sell you XP scrolls (likely because it's a brand new system and somehow thinks everything in the crown store is new?) but I really thought it was a good idea. I wouldn't have seen the limited time goats on the PTS if it wasn't for that. I hated the time they put up the flashing message across the screen - when I was in the middle of enjoying the game - and of course, it didn't help anyone who wasn't online. At least this is RIGHT when you log in, so no worries about it popping up while you're in the middle of a battle.

I can agree with this. I think they still need/want to advertise to subscribers (afterall they need to spend those crowns on something), but the option should be available to disable the ads.

    This, entirely.

They need to sell things in the crown store to make money, and they need to make money to keep the game alive. This method is the best balance between "most effective" and "least intrusive" for making players aware of new items they can purchase.

I'm a subscriber, and I find this implementation totally acceptable.

Except you know that if there was an option to turn it off people would turn it off and then complain about missing stuff... Even if they clicked a box saying "I agree not to whine about missing stuff due to turning off this notification" it would still happen.

@RinaldoGandolphi Just want to be sure. You do understand this pop-up doesn't happen every time you log in right? Once you've closed it, you do not see it again until they change something in the crown store. So this is going to pop up.. what, once or twice a MONTH? I understand it and I still think interstitials are rude. I don;t tolerate it on free websites by using ad blocker so why would I tolerate it in paid content?

I get that I have the choice of deal with it or leave the game - but before I just leave the game (I'm not yet, or anything and I wouldn't post it first if I were :P ) for the 3rd time, I want to at least say something about it.
