Just posted an update in the main thread, but unfortunately we need to extend maintenance until 6:00pm EDT today. As we mentioned yesterday, this is basically a preventative maintenance for the datacenter, and these upgrades need to be done in order to avoid running into issues in the future.

That means the EU Server will be down until at least 11pm CET, basically covering the entire EU primetime. Not cool, can we expect getting compensated the lost day on our subs?

I'm very disappointed nobody from ZOS mentioned they are fixing lag, loading screens etc. in this maintenance. I'd expect them to adress some of these issues during 14 hrs maintenance.

There are a few other issues.

There is a bug that, on rare occasions, makes you appear (upon logging in) at a high altitude, and you die when you hit the ground. While death isn't a super big deal in the game, it's annoying to have this happen. To keep your place, you must spend a soul gem.

There is a bug that, also on rare occasions, gets part of your nightblade character stuck in a wall when you do a teleport strike. I had this happen to me once in Forgotten Caverns.

There is a bug that, on very rare occasions when you go through a door, you arrive in an unfinished zone. The ground contours are there, but nothing else. No trees, no buildings, no NPCs, no other players in sight. You can die out. You can /stuck out. You might be able to map-pay-teleport back to normal Tamriel.

seems like no patch for long loading screens.

The prolonged down time is only cos of the loading screens devs get xD
  • mikeleg34_ESO
The game back online time keeps receding into the distant future. Oh well.

I'd also like to see the loading times when you enter another zone sped up. Made quicker. That might not be a problem on the Zenimax end of things, though.

As someone whose ISP connection is "DSL Light" and must use a computer without a video card, I'm used to lagging game play, even on the minimum graphics resolution, starting about 5pm and continuing until about 1am, being especially bad around the middle of that time (9pm EDT). During the laggy time, I switch to my farm-and-craft character and use the multicraft mod so I don't have to wear out my R key at the cookfire.

I do riskier stuff with my other main character from 1am until I'm too tired to play anymore, sometime after sunrise IRL.

The other big thing I'd like Zenimax to fix, if possible, is the delay in in-game mail delivery. You can speed up the mail by logging off and back on, or by wayshrining to another zone and back, but this is tedious - partly because of the long-wait loading screens.

All this works fine in other MMOs, so for it to be an issue in ESO is definitely unacceptable.

I like how this maintenance downtime is being presented: "This maintenance for the datacenter is a necessary evil, though, and will prevent future issues (such as outages) from occurring." The maintenance to end all maintenances. Let's see how it works out.

So basically a regularly scheduled maintenance turned into a combined 21 hours of downtime, that is serious mismanagement and poor planning. Thank you for confirming what has been speculated previously that ZOS is ran by amateurs trying to compete in a professional industry. 21 hours of downtime for any business is unheard of and the apathetic attitude to customers who pay for service regardless of the amount of the payment is just a poor customer service model. If this is your standard it's not looking good for longevity for this game. The competition for the gamers dollar is pretty high and service such as this will not allow it to sustain the fan base.

Can I see the MOP file for the maintenance to see where you guys need help? I think it is about time you started asking for it. We haven't seen an outage like this since release. Also can you please provide a RFO tomorrow when services are restored.

Really? I must've been imagining 1-hour delays for mail in nearly every other MMO I've played.

I've found load times are program issues more than network...specifically, I believe there's a memory leak at play. Note that the load times increase with graphics quality (regardless of PC capability, low graphics load faster than ultra by a long shot)...I've found having a memory cleaning app running helps a bit with this. (At least, that's the case for Win10Pro for my setup, using AMD Athlon X4 4GHz, Nvidia GeForce GTX 750ti, 8GB memory, and a standard 7200rpm drive.)

a small tip that i hope can help you. the game seems to have a 99% on you recieving any mail as soon as its sent as long as gold is sent along with it. i normaly get one of my friends to send me 1g thru the mail when im waiting on a cod or purchased items. i also always send 1g whenever me and whomever are wanting to avoid the cod fee.
i do totally agree with you tho. this can be very agrovating especially with these loading screen issues. i cant ever get the mails when going this route unless its another zone, and thats normaly where i get these long loading screens lol.

This maint will only be worth it if by "to avoid running into issues in the future." ZoS means fixing lag in Cyrodiil and random and long loading screens are fixed. Otherwise, what exactly are you "upgrading" during these down times? Because as much as I am glad that you're trying to explain why there is maintenance, I still have no clue as to what you are exactly fixing or upgrading.
