Why is everyone using Kagrenac's Hope lately?

I don't get the trend. I see large amounts of people mentioning they use it in all sorts of recent threads. I don't understand what's so great about it. Is there something I'm missing? Are they exploiting something? It requires a whole 8 traits to craft which I can't comprehend why since the bonuses don't seem all that useful. Any insight would be appreciated!

✭It provides spell power, and is a good v16 alternative to the glorious v14 Martial Knowledge set, for those who can't or won't invest the time and effort or money in getting the Imperial City DLC, and grind vWGT and vICP dungeons for better sets.

✭✭✭✭✭I'd still prefer Kagrenac over Julianos, actually.
At VR16 gold, the spell damage difference is 299 vs. 234. So, 65 extra spell damage with Julianos. Those two spell crit bonuses come out to around 7% extra crit.
But what's the price of that extra 65 damage and ~7% crit? You lose about 1K of health (and I consider health/magicka to be fungible; if you have extra health from set bonuses, then you can convert health enchants or health attribute points into magicka), 129 magicka recovery, and the resurrection speed bonus. Considering the number of times that people wipe in both PvE and PvP because of resurrection vulnerability, this really isn't something that I'd want to lose.
Kagrenac might not have as much raw damage potential as Julianos, but it is the more well-rounded and arguably overall better set.Edited by code65536 on October 22, 2015 2:31PMNightfighters ― PC/NA and PC/EU
