First of all make it a big customization and dont limit it to just hair styles and hair colours. Allow for FULL customization to completely change character appearance. Moving on to the details.

    Expand the facial customization options
I'm going to take Orc as an example here. I can have horns or I can have a beard but I can't have both? Have seperate options for facial hair, scars, unique racial decorations like orc horns, facial paint, piercings etc. I don't want to feel limited when creating my character.

Expand tattoo and warpaint customization options
Tattoos and warpaint options should be expanded and please give us the option to select colour both for face and body.

    Add more unique racial options
I'd really like to see more customization options that are unique to the various races like hairstyles, facial hair/decorations, tattoos/warpaint etc.

Thats all I can think of right now.

Hello peoples I'm new here and I have been trying to find a way to get my redguard real red hair... I've seen people walking around with bright red hair... but I can't? why? I always play a dark skinned character with red hair and green eyes... I just want that...

For some reason they decided various racial types would be denied certain colors of hair and eyes. I guess no one in Tamriel has been able to develop hair dye. LOL

But yeah, the lack of color choices as well as the lack of hairstyle choices is a major flaw in this game.

Would be great if haircuts could let you access other races hair styles. Orcs, redguards and nords have some sick dreads I can't get on my imperial.

Hey MornaBaine, thanks for the info... and I agree, big flaw :( oh well hope they realize that they can use clothes dye on hair too... as long as it's natural and not harsh... I don't want my character's hair to fall out.

Eye and Hair color kept to lore standards is better than allowing people to pick whatever color the wish, imo. I know some will disagree, even cite dye; don't care.

That said, the lack of styles of both hair and beards and mustaches is horrendously disappointing.

I have a couple thoughts about this. If they allow us to outright change our haircolor, I don't think we should have hair dyes, even If they don't expand the haircolor options. If they don't allow us to outright change our haircolor we should have hair dyes and they should react to our "natural" hair color realistically and the dye jobs shouldn't be even, they should be more...

So hairdyes wouldn't change our haircolor but would add color TOO our hair.

The tool works, people just don't use it because "OMGITDOESN'TWORK"

And it's not like the whole team is being dedicated to this one thing (probably are tho, since this'll be a massive money sink), they've already said that they're working on improvements to the Group Finder, including the ability to do stuff cross-faction.

Yea, because the people designing new hair are the experts on front end loading systems. If it IS the same people doing these things in ESO, we may have figured out the problem.

Personally I'd like to see it be fairly simple, no quests or what-not, just add a little shop or stall in each main city, rather like the bag merchants or dye stations. I think possibly splitting it into 2-3 categories to select from 1. hair/head-marking/adornment 2. facial features/body-shape/body-markings or perhaps split body into a third category. I'd like to see it look basically the same as character creation, but with the background of the shop/town instead of cold harbor. Possibly having hair/adornment changing in more places, and face/body change only in one place like the rededication shrines would make sense.

I would be fine with it being an in-game gold-sink like the skill point refunds. I think I'd rather it not be 'free' like the dyes (achievements are the cost) partly since I would find it confusing if people I play with / see around town a lot kept changing what they looked like, so I'd rather it not be a constant on-a-whim sort of change, but I also feel like it shouldn't be something you have to want bad enough to spend crowns on before you do it - because again if you're not satisfied with how it looks once you get back in game then you've wasted your real-life money on it and I can just imagine how upset this will make some people.... It would be fun to feel free to experiment with different hairstyles, jewelry, or tattoos, (not unnatural hair colors though please!) but I'm not sure I'd like to see a 'nose-job-of-the-day' frequency with complete appearance changes, and cost will be a large factor in frequency of changes.

While to some extent I like the idea of adding more hair/adornment options, I'm also wary of ending up with stuff that looks a bit out of place/over-the-top. I'm not sure I'm really keen on new hair etc. added to the crown store.

It seems like race-change might work easily enough (even though may be too lore-breaking from an rp point of view) if it just refunded the skill points you'd put into your previous race passives. It would of course have to take into account whether you have the ability to make any race in any alliance or not, but could be nice for people who got the upgrade after starting to level a character, though I can't say I'm particularly keen on having it as an option.

    That.

I do agree that barber shop should be a barber shop - not a plastic surgeon - but if people do want to tweak their characters in such a way (body type, markings, facial features), they should be able to *cough* crowns *cough*. Also dying one's hair cannot be as problematic as dying your armour. How is the latter more realistic? There is a lot of possibilities now with the crown store too, like new hairstyles etc. I am happy with my character being a burnt stick figure, but what really annoys me atm is my stupid choice of earrings and hair.. Darn!

Hair dyes weren't all that much of a thing in medieval times, but when you add magic and alchemy to the mix... I mean, come on, anyone who can whip up a potion that can turn an orc into a monkey, an abusive husband into a dog or a lecherous fool into a rat should be able to make a hair dye that's more then just mud smeared in your hair... likely even a potion that just magically changes your natural hair color permanently?

And of course, there is the matter of mixed races. TES lore says any such generally follow their mothers race... but with some features of their fathers. I smell a crown store unlock here... allowing some racial colorings for other races to designate "mixed blood" characters. A breton with a greyinsh skin color or reddish eyes due to some dunmer ancestry? A nord exceeding the normal height scale due to some giants blood in their family? Sounds like that might happen... (since both those examples are actually from TES Lore, Jagar Tharn and Lyris...) And it might just be some people would love to have that added diversity...

Come on, ZOS... once we have an post-chargen recustomization option, there's soo much money to be had from selling hairstyle packs, tatoo/makeup choices, adornment selections and other options in the crown store...

to the above.... I'd really prefer efforts go into something other than turning this game into virtual fashion paperdolls.... yeah that stuff is fun, don't get me wrong I'm a sucker for it, but I'd hate to see the game aspect fall to the wayside in a flood of clothing and appearance upgrades. =/

lol. I had no idea surgeons were called barbers... wait, is the red in the red and white pole BLOOD?!?!?

@Gidorick - may have been answered, but actually yes it is but not for that reason

A barber use to also shave patrons with a cut throat razor, (much like a Turkish barbers still does).

So a barber would use the cut throat razor and a hot damp white towel is normally wrapped over the head. After the shave the towel would be twisted and hung outside the shop to show how good the barber was at his craft. hence the red and white spirals.

Put my name down on the "buy a token with crown and go back to character creation" list. I don't care if there's some cute NPC shop. I want something ZOS can use to support the game and not take up too much of their valuable dev time.

People get getting bent out of shape as to what makes sense. Have you been paying attention to this game? It's wonky magic everywhere. We pull fishing poles and mining picks from thin air. We come back to life for no apparent reason. We can use wayshrines (which I have found zero lore explaining). Give them a break.

Magic is not... I repeat... it NOT a deus-ex-machina that should just be whipped out to explain everything without explanation. As for Wayshrines, they are most certainly explained in Lore.

In the book Wayshrines of Tamriel it is explained that the common belief is that the Wayshrines that are placed around Tamriel correspond with stars in the sky. As you may, or may not, know, stars are holes in Mundus though which Aetherius shines. The dead are drawn to the wayshrines to be guided to the afterlife. All souls do this but since we are soulshriven and our souls have been un-set from Mundus we are able to reconstitute at the wayshrine before being drawn to the afterlife.

    http://www.imperial-library.info/content/wayshrines-tamriel

the Face Sculptor could certainly be used to explain all aspects of the barber shop. If they do that I would like it if the character creator is retooled a bit. Maybe the player can be taken into their own consciousness to formulate and alter their own look. Players could be placed in some sort of cloud filed, kind of like the assassins creed loading screens.
    AssassinsCreed-HelperVoice-1.png

having barber shops would simply be a more... preferable. Having shop or kiosks with barbers would entice players to visit more frequently than just having an option to return to character creation. It would also build the functionality of towns... which is always a good thing.
