Door "Gankers" on the PTS

I have had a lot of fun in IC. The city and the sewers offer great small scale PVP and the idea that you could be ganked at any second if you don't watch your back is kind of thrilling to me. With that said, this is not a grip thread about traditional gankers...the one that hide in the shadows and try to get the perfect burst rotation to one shot you. With the way IC is, this type of ganker has to be really good to pull of a gank and there are ways to prevent this (detect pots, mage light, watching your surroundings).

What I don't agree with is the ability of 4-5 people to be able to camp a door and spam AOE's so that anyone that comes through the door is killed while loading and is unable to respond at all. This is something very similar to tower farming where you set in a tower and aoe kill players as they load through the door. There is a counter to the tower farm however, siege the tower down or avoid rushing the door. There is no counter to door trolls though.

I have noticed this in 2 spots, the entrance from your alliance sewer area to the main central sewer location, and the doors that come out of the crafting station in IC proper.

Like I said above, I have no problem with traditional gankers, I consider it a valid playstyle, and I can build to counter that. I do think something needs done to prevent the trolls from camping doors and killing people as they zone, as there is no way to counter load screens!

Haven't played enough PTS to notice this yet, but it was expected.

They should put 2-3 of those unkillable town guards around the entrances to prevent it, if it becomes an issue.

I agree that this needs to be fixed somehow although I don't know how. In the meantime I wouldn't mind being a part of a guard detail that covers the entrance from gankers. Might be fun actually

Yep i just died while loading in through the door. I quit and wont be going back to IC until they change things, and if they dont, i will be quitting the game period.

My thought exactly! The guards (unkillable variant) should belong to whatever faction holds the nearest keep similar to the way towns work. They'd also need to patrol about some, nothing prevents people from setting up a half dozen ballistae and instakilling anyone who leaves.

AFAIK, ZOS was expecting/intending to have the door load ganking mechanic. The issue of load screen ganking was raised to ZOS when the IC concept was first introduced, and has been around since Ultima Online. Because this was what ZOS intended, they simply made getting the new stones relatively easy.

There's already a counter measure to this in many places, for example when taking doors between districts. Within a few meters of the other side of the door you get a buff called Imperial Truce (or something like that) that prevents you from attacking or being attacked. It's a blue aura on your character. My guess is they just need to add this to a few more places where you encounter a loading screen.

I had this happen to me when I entered the main city from a Ladder coming out of the sewers. I believe they started killing me before my load screen ended.

A Safe Zone or maybe have the area guarded by NPCs that cannot be killed should do the trick. I don't mind the element of surprise and the chance of being ganked but AFTER I come out of the loading screen of death and at least get my bearings straight!

Please ZOS come up with a fix for this.

It could be fixed by simply applying a sort of immunity for 15s after you come through a door, which if you engage in combat with a player would wear off. This type of ganking is impossible to counter and really takes away from the whole Imperial City PvP goodness.

Except you know, the whole thing about repeatedly killing the same person over and over again giving diminishing returns on both EXP/AP/TV.

But sure ok keep thinking that.

Exactly, this is just what people were perdicting before even PTS hit server.

Ganking, camping at bottle necks and spawn points. Camping and harassing players at entry points.

    I just don't get it...

In the PTS what is the point to grief others players experience?
You farm TV stones? You cant keep them since zos can reboot to zero the server at any time.
You are a pve only "carebear" player and you want that others understand how bad IC is and you wish that this update will fail, because is not what you want?
You want other players to quit so the dlc cant be tested the right way?

I just don't get it srsly...

Maybe there is NO POINT in griefing others players experience?

And the fact players do it in PTS just shows that they DONT NEED ANYTHING to act like jerks?

This just shows that its BAD without any incentive (PTS progress wiped out) so imagine HOW BAD its gonna be on LIVE server if they will be able to keep their stones.

This is what PTS is about. To test things. And this time human (PVPers) behaviour have been tested. People are jerks and encouraging and awarding harassment and ganking will only lead to degradation of ESO community.

If they made the guards able to detect within snipe range then this would work. Also, they would easily wipe any aoe spammers trying to be right on top of the door. Their detection within snipe range would allow people to zone in and move around before being attacked. This would also prevent a lot of ganking close to the door as you would be able to bring them closer to the guards to get help from them as well.

@ZOS_GinaBruno, that should resolve it, don't you think?

People who gank these doors should be banned from ever accessing PTS again... PTS is for testing, if we cannot test the patch will not be able to be launched properly. Have fun doing this behavior on live, but not on the pts.

People ganking doors on PTS prevent people form testing patch.

People ganking doors on Live server prevent people from using content they paid for.

    In both cases its wrong.

Thanks to PTS we now see what PVPers are capable of. This TEST, showed that they will gank other on every even unfair opportunity. This is what "risk and rewards" brings out of people. The "very best of them".

Keeping TV stones looting will only encourage more and more of that. And soon enough we will start seeing exploits like sneaking to enemy spawn zone, base or even worse.

In the PTS what is the point to grief others players experience?

This is a sad fact of life it seems. Why do we have laws and people to enforce them in real life? Because without them there would always be the fringers who have no social conscience and can justify any harmful actions they take.

I was looking forward to the IC and all that I thought that it had to offer but find that it has nothing to offer me. Not worth the grief grinding all over again to get some almost unachievable loot only to have it stolen by someone whose only delight in life is making others miserable.

Well, those griefers can have the IC all to themselves.

I can only imagine the griefing when this hits live if this stays like it is. Honestly makes me not want to test the new stuff because I'll just get ganked right outside my spawn point if I'm alone, not my idea of testing or fun.

Besides the large central doors between districts, there are two doors to the left and right down the walls which lead to an elevated safe location in the neighboring district. We will however look at solutions at the main doors as well.

Glad to see the PK gankers out in force now on the PTS, (and no, it's not carebear PvEer hoping that IC fails doing this, as someone suggested.) Now I don't have to worry about ever going to IC or paying for it, since it has nothing for me, (and alot of other players too).

Yep I saw those marked on the map and physically in the first couple of minutes when I looked for the vendors :). Question :are the random boxes named after the vendor sets like Phoenix, randomized traits? The vendor ones only show as impen so was wondering if that was why. Also what is the intent with having blues that appear identical but for upgrading, at one tenth of the price? =)

This is absolutely a huge issue already. Being killed during a load screen takes no skill on either end. Hope that ZoS fixes this well before IC goes live. Otherwise IC will become a giant zerg farmfest, which I'm sure it'll be anyways, but not due to load screens.

Maybe they should grant an immunity buff that lasts about 10-15 seconds after you leave the safe zone in the sewers, so if there are gankers, you're immune to their damage and can just smash them in.
