I know there is more to it - but you guys have already designed a text box for pc. Just copy and paste.
Saw a mudcrab the other day. Dreadful creatures.

They could just add a speach to text in lol.

Have a option to turn off voice chat and switch it to speach to text and than a simple button push or voice command to send it. They could keep the system now where its based on what channel you're in and all that. Maybe a new channel for zone and proximity of you by x yards

I really like voice chat when in a group. Its perfect really. But outside of groups, not as much. I constantly am forced to mute people, but I can't turn voice chat off, because its the only form of communication I have. We seriously need a text chat for talking to guildies, making groups and trading. Trying to do those three is extremely painful right now. The group finder has never been effective in all my attempts of using it. Until things get ironed out, having a text chat would mitigate most of my problems with this game.

So yes, add one more to the pro text chat side.

The whole everyone is in 5 guilds but can only be in 1 guild voice chat at a time makes it even worse.

Many of the pro texters are ready to walk or qq at the first sign of something they don't like ( according to most of this thread). Why spend all of that development cash when the lions share of loyal casuals didn't even notice it wasn't there?
Personally, I want new content. Dlcs, arenas etc.

All these threats of going to the cash shop dcuo or the cutesy monthly charged snooze fest of ff online are probably having the opposite effect.

ESO is better than dcuo in terms of quality, story, writing , community etc and its not a pay to winavaganza.

Ff online charges its players by the month for the same game. Over and over. Plus ESO is at least as good and by most accounts better.

There is so much ignorance in this post it's almost unbelievable. Now, don't take it as an offense, I can understand that point of view because me too, one day, was new to MMOs.

Maybe you don't know it, but not so long ago, ESO was subscription based.

Most mmos start subscription based. Those that convert to Free to play do it because in the end, they think it will bring them more money by using a cash shop (known as crown store here) and having more players because there is no subscription to pay. It's a business decision. They don't go free to please their current player base, they do it because they realise their player base is not big enough.

When an mmo comes out, there is generally not much content, and during the first year, there is generally so many bugs to fix that new content have to wait. Then you have those who don't understand the subscription system who can see there was no content during the first year (due to devs being busy fixing what isn't working correctly) leaving. Them leaving brings in less money from subs and bad publicity, so not much more come to get subs. Then the company decides to go without sub and add a cash shop, so that the players get in and pay more than the sub fee in the crown store. I've seen it, one of my friends has bought more in the crown store, buying 2 different mounts, adventure pack and whatever, in 1 month than paying a subscription fee.

A game like FFXIV went all out subscription. That was successful to them. You have just no idea how much this game has changed just since the second release, I'm not even talking about how much it changed before that. They have a big enough player base to have the subscription system work, and the players benefit from it by having faster updates.

But all this just shows me you are new to the mmo genre and I'm not judging you for this, I simply try to make you understand that in an mmo, voice chat can be useful for certain things, but is not as useful as text. How am I supposed to communicate with those who shut down their mics? How am I supposed to communicate with my entire guild when I know that only about 5-6 out of 80 are camping the guild chat? Do I need to send PSN messages to the 74 others one by one?

You guys, who have never played MMOs, have no idea what endgame MMO gaming is. You know there is about as much competition there as in PvP, right? No? You didn't? First groups to finish X dungeon, first group to speed run X thing, and so on. You seem to think that everything in this game is as easy as the dungeons you run pre-50. Of course, we can do everything pre-50 without needing text chat, I'm VR8 and never really NEEDED the text chat as of yet, because I haven't reached that part of the game where it's important. Well, that's not right, I would need it if I wanted to do veretan dungeons and raids with PUGs and one of the members had his mic unplugged, which I will obviously never do because that's stuff I would only do with guildmates, because the guild is what's important.

Seriously, like I said on page 52, I don't even think a chatbox should be optional, it should me mandatory. If one day they add it as an option, and I get someone, in a group where I'm leader, who doesn't use either voice chat or text and doesn't listen to recommendations, he'll be booted, period. I'll give recommendations on both text and voice, and if they don't listen, I'll just assume they're a player who wants to play solo, and they'll go back to play solo.

Text is not something you use in the middle of fighting, it's something you use between fights, to talk about strategy. Personally I understand strategies better when I read them than when someone tells me over a mic. Yesterday I was in a group and a friend was trying to name an area for me to go to, there was so much static, I had him repeat 5 times, then I said, "just type it" before I remembered there was no text chat...

Like I said, no direct offense, I have nothing against you as a person, you're probably a very nice person, but in all respect, you really look like someone who is playing the first MMO of their life.

Yes please, PLEASE give us text chat, I have a really nice headset, adjustable audio levels and easy to distance the mic from my face...but not all players have a good headset, I hear alot of annoying things in area voice chat ALL the time (coughing, kids yelling in the background, people just saying really stupid @$!# for no reason at all) and it causes me to turn the volume down, which is a bummer if someone is trying to sell something, guild recruit, look for a group etc. I wont be able to hear the important stuff. Having text chat to sell items (and link stats easily) would be awesome and easier than telling the 10 annoying idiots crowding voice chat to shut up so that I can understand what a potential customer is trying to ask me. I got a nice rechargable bluetooth keyboard off amazon for less than $20, it would be so nice to be able to use it in game!

Still able to vote on it and look at the results.

They locked this thread so they would not have a poll showing 90+% disagrees with them.

Explain why ZOS would close this thread. Ok, 95+% want text chat, so ZOS hides their ridiculous mistake. Wow guys. @ZOS, I hope you're at least reading this, cause I know you're too scared to reply. Very disappointed. Thought this would be an MMO, not a reply of Skyrim.
.... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

@ ZOS --FOR THE LOVE OF MERIDIA GIVE US TEXT CHAT !!!

This is a Nightmare growing daily of epic proportions. Every night when i log off after a full day of playing i think the same thought to myself:
-This would be the best game i've ever played IF THERE WAS TEXT CHAT.

We're dying out here on console. Every last person i know is growing increasingly frustrated by the minute.
MY last console MMO experience-DCUO, and every other MMO experience i've played over the last 15 years i could run group content ALL DAY LONG by joining PUGs through text. .... BUT NOT ESO. Instead we sit around all day long pulling out our teeth trying to network amongst 5 different guilds, shouting in common areas amongst the nonsense or sitting in a group finder Q for hours only to join a completely dysfunctional group.

    THIS IS MADNESS ZOS!!!!! MADNESS!!!

You have taken the one reason 99% of people who play a mmo want to do--run group content-- and made it a virtual impossibility.
Just go onto DCUO on Ps4... where NoONE ever uses their group finder b/c there is a LFG text channel with 1000s of invites being sent out every hour for every single instance in the game with FUNCTIONAL premade groups.
AND IT ISNT HARD WITH A GAMEPAD. for those who don't know it goes like this:
"Need DPS for CoA' (city of ash)
    "DPS for CoA"
    or
"BLah for sale, shout for invite"
    "invite"
......shorthand. its not complicated and it has worked on every other mmo on console without a second thought.
STOP making excuses. Text makes EVERYTHING in a MMO work. Without it we are absolutely handicapped and endlessly discouraged.

THIS IS NONSENSE. You are killing what could be the biggest game on next gen before it even hits 2 months.
People are already bailing. Everyone i know that was having a blast up to Vet 1 has stopped playing as much. As soon as they realized they couldnt Queue into vet dungeons with random idiots instead of actually forming REAL MMO PUGS... they have nothing to do.
EVen if you have 5 big guilds its still a pain and a joke when there are 10000s of people in the same situation out there somewhere screaming into the darkness.

I'm exhausted. I would have spent 100s of dollars on this game over the next few years, but i don't think i can even make it to the first DLC with this insanity.

    /end rant.

Let's give this a second thought:

When you quest, the npc dialogues are all voice-acted, cool, and most of the stuff, you can also READ! They realised text was important for them to communicate with us, but they don't understand how important it is to us to communicate with each other...

Yea, I've had numerous people quit the game already. Such a shame, could have been a top MMO, but without text this is Skyrim. And once consoles start hitting vet, it will be a very empty Skyrim.

Yeah, this guy is one hundred percent correct.

I say call a poll of actual players at the boot screen of ESO.
No biased forum polls skewed and conducted by one side or the other.

I say cater to the actual gamers playing the game.

So many people have claimed they left the game over this matter, I think that means zos should cater to the players actually playing the game, as in the 99 percent of players who didn't even notice the text box status because most people don't want a DMV vision test from across their living room every time some gold farmer wants to move some product.

The text for ESO was enlarged for consoles. The tiny PC text was fine right next to the PC player.

The text box on console would likely end up having to be enlarged about 40 percent from PC as well.

What is that going to look like?

Adding nothing to this again, what part of "YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE THE TEXT BOX ON IF YOU DONT WANT" dont you understand?
How about in spanish "USTED no tiene que tener el cuadro de texto si no quieres"
or maybe German? "Sie müssen nicht das Textfeld haben WENN SIE NICHT WOLLEN"

YOU dont have to use it, However i guarantee if it does come into the game you will use it in veteran content. 100% guarantee. I would go as far as to say if you love this game as much as you make out, When it comes to that time you will even go out and BUY a mini keyboard....
The same goes for all the other people whining about text chat.. This type of game REQUIRES it. Just because you THINK you wont use it now, it has soooo many uses!
Your head will literally explode with awesomeness if they turn it on and you see the POWAH of the text chat..

To be fair, there are situations where text chat is the only option like playing while on the phone (mute your mic!), needing to be quiet while a child sleeps or spouse watches TV, or even because there is too much background noise (mute your mic!). Even a shooter like Warframe has both options and it is a huge asset to the game (a freaking shooter has better communication options than an MMO! That's embarrassing).

Yea, so when my wife comes down to tell me about the kids day, everyone can hear my wife's conversation. Check the DCUO videos for how chat can work on a console.

Multiplayer <> MMORPG. Text chat in Killzone or any other FPS? Yeah...no.

FF:ARR and DCUO? Well...it's kinda there by default.

I'm not really sure where games like Destiny fit...but they seem more voice chatty to me for some reason.

The problem with catering to the actual players, is that you lose any perspective around who is leaving and what would keep them engaged.

Pro-text chat guy: Hey ZOS, you know you could expand your player base if you added text chat like those other MMORPGS?

ZOS: Nah, too much like hard work. We'll just cater to the existing player base....who cares about the players who leave or those who want to play but just get put off by the lack of text chat. We don't need their stinking money anyway.

Existing player base? The Existing Player base is asking for this, the rest are casuals. The Vast majority won't reach Veteran Rank 14.

Read your last sentence. The vast majority won't reach vet 14, when text chat actually becomes helpful.
The vast majority are the casuals who will never need text, won't bother with purchasing a keyboard and sacrificing one of the two usbs on a ps4.

    There's only two usbs!

One for controller. One for turtle beach thingy.

The developers may be more pragmatic than you give them credit for.

I'm casual and I will buy the next dlc. And the one after that.

Your lack of mmo experience is once again telling. 1st things first YOU didn't notice it missing cos YOU haven't played an mmo before don't use hyperbole as evidence how did u manage to survey 99 percent of players? You are probably the biggest poster in this thread yet probably are among the least experienced . Do you know what a raid is? Here's a pro tip it's not the cops kicking your door in. Ever been in a guild when 50 are on all wanting to run stuff? Ever been in a chat with Even 10 nvm 30 people trying to speak at once about different subjects ? How is your progress now are you past 50 yet? Are you aware of what's waiting in craglorn or how ridiculously stupid it's going to be trying to get it done?

Barheiny answered you about how it'd look but seeing as your pleading ignorance I'll remind you that my old comrade symonator even went to the trouble of making a video on dcuo to post in this thread I'm sure you'll have seen it. Maybe around the mid fifties in terms of pages iirc. I've addressed you directly in this thread twice already only to be ignored I'd appreciate a response. I'm not trying to make you look silly I'm being deadly serious broaden your horizons dude . You and countless other low levels have no idea What's in-store cos mmos are new to you guys . Do you think this thread has gone on so long because it's only a minor issue.

If you love pve then raids are the absolute nuts when we'll made. I mean seriously they'll su ,ck you in , the good ones anyway.
Don't mention destiny as raids . I loved v.o.g in that game nice mechanics and such but no holy trinity make it an extended Co op level by comparison . No tank no healers etc. The problem all you new mmo players are gonna have is when you reach that level and can't even get a group together. I don't mean a puglife random setup I mean a properly formed group with a great chance of success. Raid failing sucks big time. It's the one thing I would never use group finder in any game for. I've got an officer smashed this game till vr 9 guess what now though? He's not playing cos he can't get anything done . He's waiting for us to catch up if we stick it out and we'll do it just like old times in another mmo .

I've got a guild of over 60 . I know around 12 - 20 from previously but the rest are just names on a roster cos for whatever reason they ain't using guild v.c and it's a common thing in these games. Until it's added the guild stagnates or straight up dies when we get pissed off with it . If people aren't comfortable chatting I'm not gonna try n force them. Gaming should be fun after all. This isn't just aimed at you but any mmo virgins that think text is old format for p.c only. A successful mmo needs Both text and voice chat. Ofc most PC mmo players use team speak or something similar while using text chat . It baffles me why anyone is against the OPTION? Is it a fear of being frozen out? Perhaps in the same way guys are currently being frozen out because they either can't or won't use mics for whatever reason but I'll say one thing , the guy that never mics up cos he has constant background noise but is always listening and responding In text gets my respect and I've known plenty over the years like that. I used to say only thing worse than no mic was a bad mic ( in raid/dungeon/pvp scenarios)

Actually I play swtor, defiance etc. I just carve away a group and get stuff done.

How many people do you need for a vet dungeon? 4?

You are in a guild of 50 or more and you can't pull four bros to run it?

    Maybe its not voice chat.

Also try running a healer. Everyone wants to DPS. So if you run a healer maybe you'll get invited to the shin dig.

I've got a core group of guys and many other players who will run em when we want to get our faces melted, lol.

The people in voice chat when you are on are likely playing at the same time regularly. The voice chat has a nice way of grouping British night owls with Yankee after workers.

And PS. Try to be less condescending. Playing ultima online doesn't make you good at anything but being old, take it from a. BBS player. Skeet doop. Scrunchh scrunch beep. Oh dial up how I've missed you.

Or maybe you are new to console and have no idea that almost every console game that supports multiplayer does so with voice chat only.

No keyboard, cause I'm all about that ( casual customer) base.

Umm I use a bluetooth keyboard with my PS4 just fine, wireless doesnt use up the USB ports, there are also the mini keyboards that attach to your contollers, or you can just use the virtual keyboard thats built into the PS4.

I got VR12 about a week ago & now have hit a brickwall after the Cadwell's gold questline ... Mainly because its next to impossible to get a group for dungeons or the Craglorn quests (which I would love to do), so I am stuck doing PvP or solo quests in Cyrodiil which gets old fairly quick when that's all that's left to do.

Over half of my "friends" from ESO have moved on to other games or just stopped logging into thier PS4 altogether, 2 of the 5 guilds I am in has folded already, one of them being a 500 person trade guild.

Without text chat & a crappy-arse broken groupfinder, ESO on the console is dieing & quickly ... there is no community which keeps a MMORPG going, no real way to find new guilds (other than having some random spam invite you), trading is impossible unless you spam in voice chat in towns, etc...

I have been making this agruement since we where told just before console beta that they removed text chat, & I can still not understand why anyone would be against having text chat ALONG WITH voice chat. Both are needed in console version period.

The console version has been out for less than 6 weeks & they have already slashed the price of the game by a 3rd. I guess when things get bad enough for ESO on the console to go completely free to play, then maybe ZOS will start listening to whatever customers they have left.

Better yet, Imagine if the PC version had no form of Text Chat at all. How do you think that would go over? Imagine if since Beta, the game had no Text Chat and ZoS refused to address and discuss the matter. PC Players would flip their *S* if they only had proximity and group voice chat.

    So is my keyboard.
I'm sure you can get an adapter for the Turtle Beach to run off the controller jack, but if not ok, use the USB port.
That gives you an extra USB port. For anything, literally.
