If I was actually going to pay to play a game I would have stuck with EQ2, which I did for 5 years. It has more content than ESO, FFIV (from what I read about it), and Wow combined. But it seems that the end game for Final Fantasy games both single and MMO are a tedious grind. The feel of the games is acceptable in single player with a limited play time, but they seem to have to compensate at the end for lack of adequate progression on the way up. I really don't know if this is the case for FFIV since I have never played it, but the idea would be consistent with FF games since the first one. Only those that have played it can chime in on that.

The gear grind in FF14ARR is about on par with WoW BC its hard and can sometimes be tedious but when you get a piece you feel like you have earned it rather than just been given it.

Can you play it with ps4 controller or is it difficult

You can play with a controller just fine. In fact, the controller implementation and the UI customization is amazing. You have full on PC level control over your UI, macros, everything. That's one place the game really excels. Some classes are easier to play with a controller than others though. As a Marauder I had two bars needed for fights and I had two hidden bars for mundane stuff and crafting. You have a lot more skills at your disposal than ESO. A Marauder is (or was anyway, haven't played the new patches) the squishier of the tank classes and required constant proper rotation of quite a few cooldowns to stay up against heavy hitting bosses. DPS can get away with less skills usually.

Of course if you play DPS you best be in a Free Company (FF version of a guild) to get groups or you'll be waiting forever in queues to get in dungeons. All dungeons are instanced and DPS are a dime a dozen.

ESO is by far the better game vs DCUO, and is more involving than FFXIV but communication on both games vs ESO leaves me disappointed and wanting more. Lack of a chat box is ridiculous. ESO is the more rewarding game as far as progress vs FFXIV, but DCUO has the most fun at endgame. ESO is the most story and rpg of them both, but you can't really share the experience with anyone. And don't give me the immersion thing. That will bring up another issue entirely. Can't even use our role playing names, just PSN tags. Immersion? .... I have to admit, the devs do listen to reason, if not to the forums. Thank you for "nameplates", a welcome addition to immersion, as well as the text chat box for PS4, which only comes on the screen when I need it too, and helps this gameplay SO MUCH MORE then without it. THANK YOU for the additions. Very much appreciated.

Oh, and being FFXIV sine beta, it's not the combat itself, it's the combat mechanics. Go to U-tube and look up "Titan EX" fight, or "Turn 9" fight. It's like memorizing for the NYC bar exam.

IIRC FFXIV doesn't require PS+ to play on PS4. Playstation waved the requirement of PS+ for their players that want to play.

Edit: I see what you're saying though. You already have PS+, so the discount doesn't apply.

I think the majority of the community, in one form or another, would like a comment on the text chat box or lack thereof. If this thread is any indication, we deserve a reply or offical announcement for one. If the company continues to sprun the community as such, ESO (which is a fantastic game) will be stunted of its growth very quickly and shamefully, never really or truly achieving it's entire potential (both as a game, and as a business/money builder). Please, one thing DCUO did very well is listen to its community. Please. I urge you to acknowledge the request of an announcement at the very least. Thank you.

Yup, an exam you fail if you get one answer wrong lol. That's the stuff that started to get to me. My FC was up to turn six when I stopped playing. Too much stress. Our FC was smallish but full of really cool people. We were selective and kicked people who were disruptive. We didn't care how hardcore you were though, just so long as you were nice we didn't care about your level or what you did with your time. That left us without 12 regulars who did push difficulty a bit and, well, some were better than others. I found myself getting really frustrated when the same people would screw up at the same spots repeatedly. Just couldn't help it. And I didn't like getting that frustrated with people that I liked as friends.

Conversely, if you play on console and like to be able to type words FFXIV might be a good place for you. Also, if you enjoy regular and worthwhile content updates, difficult content, a group finder, a working and intuitive instance queue, etc.

This just strikes me as more of another complaint thread about whats missing in EsO. OP seems like their talking themselves out of every mmo alternative and just naming what they think is wrong. If you want things added , just say so like everyone else. Asking half-heartedly if you should leave or stay though , I just cant take threads like this very seriously.

Having tanked as a 50 paladin in that game, I didn't find it remotely challenging as far as group content is concerned..Its about like any other MMO..a DPS check

Content wise it gets more updates, but then again a 2.5 GCD on every ability means i'll be playing a crappy game through that content.

I cannot say no to others games. I play ESO AND other games.

But cannot agree about community, no on PC at least. Maybe that's a console player issue.

Can agree gorup finder is a mess and from PC most groups forms at zone CHAT. That's special true for undauted pledges.
That a point Zenimax can keep a eye on for sure.

Default UI is poor ant that's why any half serious player in PC is using addons. That's another point Zenimax needs to pay attention. Without the addons the game experiente is diminished a lot.

At PC I can have trade guilds, PvP and PvE guilds. I can say my trade guilds are active a lot. If you guild is not interacting maybe it's your lack of (getting in TS (voice chat), chating, interacting, etc) the problem.

For console players... I don't know but I guess without chating tools it's hard to create synergy

Are you asserting that FFXIV and ESO have comparable challenges? (In that, ESO has no challenge, and you didn't think FFXIV has any either)

We'll have to agree to disagree here. While XIV has a wide array of difficulty for their content, players spend weeks learning the hardest difficult of the newest Primals and months learning the newest Turns. That simply doesn't happen in ESO.

I'd like to believe they will listen. Too many players are or have been saying the same things for anyone to ignore. Course , i'm a glass half full kinda guy. Or at least trying my hardest to be. There's got to be someone at ZoS thats said "Ok theres issues we cant continue to ignore."

That's one major reason I believe we will see text chat in the consoles sooner than later. Added content more often. The next year or so have got to be make or break it for EsO imo. That or they stand to see huge losses in their playerbase. You'd think they have too much invested now to turn back , the loss would have to be disastrous for them otherwise.

Ummm.... yeah, no. Being 50 is meaningless. What turn did you get to? Which Extremes did you down? There are almost none that even come close to a DPS check outside of couple phases at most. It's 90% tank and off tank coordination and heal checks. It literally takes groups weeks of practice to down the highest difficulties in that game. I'm thinking you're counting Hard dungeons as end game content. They aren't. They're what you grind to get the gear to do endgame content.

Also, the GCD is on skills only, and is lowered by skill speed. Abilities, which is the vast majority of what you should be using, are on independent CDs. Your rotation should involve constant weaving of skills and abilities. If you were literally sitting there waiting for your GCD to come off you weren't doing it right.

Not every skill is part of the 2.5 sec GCD. That's where knowing your rotations and stuff comes into play. And since the ability immediately goes on cool down once it's cast, by the time the animation is done your next attack is ready to go. So the GCD is really a non-issue.
