I played FFXIV from beta to a few months ago. I had a blast, but it was often a rocky road as well. FFXIV might have more polish than ESO, but it's not without it's own issues as well. I wouldn't quit ESO just yet, if possible I'd try out FFXIV first. I think they are still doing the 14 day free trials, and you're trial toon carries over to the main game if you get it as well.

Keep in mind that PS4, PS3, and PC all play together so you might need to have a method to access Teamspeak, Vent, Mumble, or some other VOIP to voice chat with PC players. Also if you really like the game consider using a KBM to play, it has a much better UI interaction, examples being more space for skills, and easier targeting. Luckily the game supports

You should play them both all the way through or at least into endgame. Both are very good games but offer different experiences. I won't be going back to FFXIV but I enjoyed it.

It's abut too cartoony for me I must say it'll prob make me appreciate eso abit more it does need text chat though or I just need to find a good active guild

It's all up to you, are you still having fun ? taking a break until the next big update happens that's ok to, if you have more fun in the other game that's cool to, do what you want to do and in the end you will be better for it.. :)

FFXIV is a real korean/japanese MMO with pink elves, kitty kittens and such things, silly mounts and silly minions. I dont like those things that much ... I like the darkness ESO offers so ESO will be my main MMO.

This statement resonates with me, which is why I am still playing ESO.

The TES universe, as it turns out, is a somewhat believable place, at least enough so that I can ignore the fact that some things only look right from one direction. It has a world and lore that resonates with me. That is simply not there in other games I have tried.

Other MMOs have either had stories that did not interest me at all, or I wasn't actually aware that there was a story, or the game designers wanted to make a cartoon game. The latter bore me because I cannot believe that they are making a serious game. People joke about flying unicorns that sing and expel rainbows, but some games go out of their way to make these things. Those games are hard pressed to get money from me.

A few games I have seen are just built upon gimmicks. The problem with gimmick games is that once you get past the novelty of the gimmick, the game gets stale. Quite a few games out there, including a couple that are threatening to release soon, seem to be built upon gimmicks. These things just don't resonate with me.

This is why I am sticking with ESO. All ZOS has to do to keep getting money from me is to be an Elder Scrolls game. (Elsewhere, I have another post that discusses that aspect)

Ive recently gone back to FF14ARR because i cant communicate in ESO but just to chip in and help you makee a decision ill drop down some pros and cons for each tittle.

    FF14ARR
    Pros
    - Excelent and engaging story quests.
    - PvE content is fun and abundant
    - Crafting and gathering is indepth and rewarding
    - Plenty of activity's to keep you occupied (Triple triad, chocobo racing)
    - Player housing
    - Guild flagships
    - Text Box
    - One character can learn every class

    Cons
    - PvP isnt great (been worked on)
    - The Gcd is anoying at early levels

    ESO
    Pros
    - Combat is a nice change
    - PvP is fun and dynamic
    - Fully voiced Quests
    - Classes arent restricted to the holy trinity.

    Cons
    - PvP is Largely unbalanced
    - PvE Content is lacking
    - Lack of damage and healing numbers

I played FF for quite a while. I ended up finding the end game quite tedious. Bear in mind the combat is much heavily structured, typical MMO style combat. Unless you're over geared for the content you need a group that knows exactly what they are doing or you will wipe repeatedly. A dps goes down and you can probably recover. A tank or healer goes down and you're done. I mostly tanked myself. Typical tough fights require marking the arena so everyone knows where they should be during certain attacks or phases, where the tanks should be pulling certain mobs, etc. Generally if you're pushing the difficulty one screw up means a wipe because there are a lot of timed one shot mechanics.

Eventually the grind and repetition got to me. All the best gear is either bought or is dropped from turns or trials. For the bought gear you'd need to speedrun the same dungeon all day. For the dropped gear there's one drop to be shared by 8 people after what can be a ridiculously long, tough battle. Then your weapon upgrade required extremely tedious quests and yet more grinding. When I logged on id have close to two hours of mandatory daily stuff to run if you wanted to keep up. The same stuff every single day.

I will say leveling is fun in that game though. Grouping is easy and most of the dungeons are quite fun. It only really started to wear me down once the end game grind started.

You don't really have to quit. ESO has lowered it's standards and doesn't require a sub anymore. Sub to FFXIV and check it out. I personally prefer ESO's combat, but FFXIV has dozens of features that ESO lacks or does poorly that I kind of expect to be in MMOs in this era.

I don't like fallout or star wars, elder scrolls is an online game but it doesn't feel like it is guilds are pointless there's no community impossible to find groups for dungeons once your in group you can't communicate with them so doing the dunfeon then becomes a challenge if your with idiots who just run and get all the aggro it could be helped with just 2 things more improved group finder and text chat on console

Absolute nonsense; the first guild I joined always has about 10 people in the primary guild chat every time I log on. And unless you don't have vocal chords I believe voice chat counts as communication. Your PS4 came with a mic, and a cheap pair of voice-capable earbuds works great when plugged into the controller. I had game audio and voice for under 20 bucks until I bought one of the Sony over-the-ear gaming headsets (highly recommended, if only for the ability to adjust game and chat volume separately). Plus, I have no idea how you expect to use text-based chat in a dungeon in the middle of combat. It's nice for non-combat conversations/planning, but it's by no means necessary.

I have always been able to find a group in a reasonable amount of time, but it's fairly straightforward to join the group finder and do some questing until you're matched. I play a healer, though, so I'm probably matched faster than someone playing a more common class.

The groups I've been matched with always have at least one other person with a mic. Some people have them but remain quiet unless they need to talk. I wouldn't complain if they made an option to require a mic in the group finder. Those people who think it's a good idea to sit in a corner casting AOE spells where I can't heal them as effectively really need to hear what I have to say.

One thing i've come to realise is that other games suck compared to eso. I was thinking of going back to the tokyo expansion of the secret world which is game i really like.

Suddenly the secret world is clunky, static and generally unresponsive and generally a little bit dull. It does have guns and small group pvp so do this now and again i also do the odd scenerio and some dungeons.

Eso is just plain better on every level even with lack of content and it's sometimes slightly dodgy performance. We've been waitng nearly a year for content and it's nearly here.

So you could go and play FF14 until you get bored at which time imperial city and wrothgar will be live. Also with this a regualr ongoing content release schedule which could you enough time to play ff14 between patches.

Played FFXIV for a couple of months, then returned to ESO. Was fun for about that long for me. The problem for me was gameplay. FFXIV's gameplay felt like more of the same (I played WoW many years): tab-targeting, mash 2 buttons, move on to next mob.

ESO's gameplay feels more dynamic. Positioning, dodge and block seem more important - and thus overall active defense is part and parcel of the gameplay. I also find ESO gameplay more responsive, and - if you will - visceral.

FFXIV pvp and questing also felt more of the same to me, but I suppose YMMV.

If the hype of FFXIV's new xpac reaches a certain crescendo, I may return to check it out, but I'm not feeling it yet.

    ff cons

    no mega server
group finder in ff14 is still a mess
run out of quests after first playthrough as a single class
    cool downs.
really no build diversity. everyone kinda uses the same exact combo.
    extremely elitist endgame.

    eso cons

    vet leveling
    looooooonnnng delays between content releases
pvp is 90 mins of horse riding before getting zerged rinse and repeat.
no crafting or learning dropped sets or styles. just limited to the stuff we have that becomes obsolete when we hit endgame.
pve is no challenge at all can play 1-50 without a single death. needs enemies to be less predictable and more intelligent.
