Yes please. Would like a chat box for just that those random meetings outside of guilds or party. Need this bad for zone chat and just meeting players for first time. Not everyone apparently can speak on a mic either from what I'm seeing. Most of the time I hear burps , fart sounds, or someones kids yelling across the living room. One guy when we were all grouped fighting the anchors said some stuff but that was the only time. Been on this game since yesterday so maybe time will tell. Please just give us a chat box. LOL and for some reason my client keeps telling me that voice chat is now in maint or there is a config issue. Neither of which can I confirm at this time.

Indeed. Like I said before, this is a very touchy subject for ZoS. They thought it was a huge innovation and that they were really smart for going voice only. The insane backlash of the community on their decision is trying to make them do something that I've never once seen them do before: Admit they made a wrong decision.BigMac_Smiley wrote: »Funny how there can be multiple threads about CP and Vet levels, but if we try and start another thread or poll on text chat it gets closed.

Cmon table.top roleplaying has been doing this for years and its a bunch of fun.

Text chat is beyond cumbersome on a console. Keyboard takes up half the screen and entering just a few words with a joystick is slow. It would prove to be nothing more than annoying screen clutter and if it was something you could turn off then everyone would and it would be no different than people without mics. I think I is just a loud minority of PC players that feel there is a need for text chat on consoles.
I vote no. My screen is busy enough. I can build up my friends and guild list with people that do talk and which I enjoying playing and conversing with. Text chat is just another means to spam innocent players and even more likely to lead to that. At least with voice chat I can see who is spamming by the circle over their head.
omg lol 2015 buy a keyboard, $5 on amazon free delivery or do what i did and buy the official ps3 Bluetooth keyboard for $20, like everyone playing ffxiv on ps3/ps4 did.
Why play with an awkward keyboard on your lap?
Everytime I use mine I just resent the no mics forcing me to slow type them a message while some jerk shoots me afk.
There are uses, but respect that most people don't or won't really use it when voice chat is an option.

Mr Skin I don't understand why you keep coming on here repeating the same useless nonsense that people have already addressed to you specifically.
You can 100% use voice chat if want. Boom done. No need for you to "contribute" anymore to this topic/thread. Cause you ain't bringing anything new to the table.

I'm looking forward to it eclipsing their years old Ask Us Anything thread. If that doesn't make a point, I dunno what will.
I've been personally keeping my interaction with this thread to a minimum, I still keep an eye on it though, and there's so many new voices streaming in every day wanting the same thing.
On the subject of some arguments brought up now:
Using a keyboard awkwardly on your lap
I think that most users interested in chat support are already prepared for that contingency, or don't consider it awkward. Many have been using keyboard with their console games for over 15 years at this point and know what it entails. Suggesting that those who wish to use it shouldn't be allowed to because it's this supposed "too awkward and difficulty" is just insulting to the users' ability, both to make use of a keyboard and to make their own decisions.
PC has Text to console gets Voice so Nyahhh
PC is getting voice as well soon, as was pointed out. At that point console will just be asking for feature parity. It's a fairly comical argument anyway. I've known people missing legs, does that mean I should have to lose an arm? It's just as ridiculous an argument.
I don't want to have to use text
Then don't. I don't want to have to use voice outside of party. We agree to disagree, the only difference is you have that option, nay, forced advantage currently and it's made you decide that you're superior because of some imagined alliance with the developers.
Suggesting that removing a feature is innovation borders on senility. I don't consider it innovation when my favorite restaurant decides to stop serving my favorite dish, that's just bad business since then I no longer eat there. In fact, I have little to no reason to return and check if they've brought it back after the fact.
Businesses have every right to make stupid decisions, mind you, and their customers have every right to pound home that their decision was stupid.
So I ask you ZoS, what does continuing to ignore the community make you every time someone quits because you decided to 'innovate' functionality out of your product?
I don't really care about text chat, and there are dozens of other things I would prefer for them to spend their time on. For instance:
PvP balancing
Player housing
New controller templates (I don't need quick access to a POV slider, I DO need a quick way to cycle through chat channels, which would help mitigate any real need for a text chat)
A smoking emote
Work vamp/werewolf bites into the peer trading system, or a similar measure to prevent scamming
Orsinium
Clockwork City
Flipping the bird emote
Bugs
Dark Brotherhood
More bugs
Ultimately, developer time is a precious commodity. Maybe if they rolled this into something more worthwhile, like an official companion phone app replete with a bunch of other features. But just text chat, by itself, is not something I would use, and there are plenty of other things I would have them work on, so...
If it came down to console text chat or adding another mount to the crown store, I guess I would rather they spent their time on text chat.
I read his post as an intentional dig at how the current Voice system on console is broken anyways. So if they aren't going to address the Voice issue, and not add text chat...then you have a dead MMO.Based on what I read on these forums I don't think there will ever be voice chat on console [...]I'd say text chat will added after half the console players jump ship....
So apparently the consoles versions have absolutely no form of communication at all now, with text chat coming much later.

Tabletop groups are in a closed or otherwise dedicated space for it, while people playing an MMO could be disturbing others in the room. And tabletop RPers have things like facial expression and body language so they're aware when the other party is done speaking. You don't have that over a mic and have to guess through tone, which may not always be reliable.

What's broken with Voice on Console?
1) Quit Auto-Joining us to Area Chat.
2) Guild management of 500 members is impossible with the current voice channel system.
3) Guild officers should auto-join officer chat channel.
4) The quality of the voice is terrible compared to the Party chat in Xbox itself.
5) Being able to turn off voice chat completely. Current workaround, make a Xbox party of one.
And the unfixable...players that don't know how to use a mic, don't have a mic, or have kinect as their mic, inviting us into their living room
A dead mmo that just outsold GTA on consoles? That dead mmo? Its sales numbers compared to the number of individual posters on this thread imply the game is in no danger of dying.I read his post as an intentional dig at how the current Voice system on console is broken anyways. Casuals are going to save this game. Adapting to the needs of the casuals will help prop up development revenue.
Will that lead to the holy grail of mmo design? Prob not. But no one is. A special little snowflake here. The wants of the many will out shine the whims of the few.
I'm not against text chat but I bristle at melodramatic 'sky is falling' comments.

Adding 2 vet ranks is not catering to casuals... ZOS is schizo

I finally got into a dungeon group after many hours in the que only to find out my voice chat went down (constantly counting down to join a chat group but never lets you actually join). So I had to do the entire dungeon, I'm a first timer, without ANY FORMS OF COMMUNICATION. Thankfully we managed but I had to constantly shake my head in disgust and hope that I could figure out what they were doing.
I want you voice chat only people to disable texting on your phone and tell me how it's better. I bet you send a million texts to your 90 minutes of voice usage in any given billing period.
I'm also tired of hearing dogs bark, coughing, babies crying, spanish speaking mothers yelling at their kids. I want voice chat when I'm in a group, in a dungeon or maybe talking to the guild about something important. I want texting for cities / towns, private messages and my group when voice chat breaks down.
I love choices.
