On top of the 10k I spent on a mount I've had to spend around 12k on bag and bank upgrades which is far too expensive if you ask me considering the money you get for items, unless it has a extra 280% to merchants trait on it, is absolutely nothing even if it's a rare item.
I got a yellow staff the other day and sold it to a merchant for 44coins... it's pathetic really.
I could join a large guild but I don't see why I should be forced to join a guild with hundreds of people I don't even know in person, it weirds me out thinking for all I know these people could have been to prison for serious criminal charges for all I know and I wouldn't even know.
I currently have an 80 slot bank, the next upgrade is 6.6k, and my bank currently consists of 42 different provisioning items because I get the same recipes over and over again, but I can't bring myself to throw the items or sell them for 1 gold each just in case I find a recipe that requires them.
These same provisions... such as an apple, cost 150 each from a Grocer in game. Ridiculous economy if you ask me.

I was shocked when I first got to Glenumbra and even the most basic iron dagger was 400gp to buy.... Guess what i could sell it for? ;)

The higher level goods you have the better the prices.
It does get better as you level up.
You can increase bag/bank space along the way to hodl more goods for sale too.
Just think..there use to be a 100 item stack limit until recently.
200 should be bliss for you new comers farming resources.

If you are not in a guild it is hard. Before justice, I gathered iron, refined it and sold it because I didn't do blacksmithing. After justice I just steal everything and fence it. even the trash armor and weapons that sell for 0 at a vendor can be sold to the fence for 1 gold. The stuff salted in just for stealing is worth 30 or 100 gold even in starter areas. Just don't get caught and if you are log off to another character and wait a bit since you don't want to lose your ill gotten goods. This is how I financed my storage space.

You should have about 30k to start with. You can go back and play the others later or delete but good to keep the three as bank slots for your main.
At the bank, yes? I understand all of your characters will have access to it there. Am I wrong?

yes the 4 share the same bank so you take the stuff usually the crafting goods you collected put in bank and store them all on a alt you not playing.

You are the exact reason there is no global auction house people always turn it into a mini game and drive the economy out of site of the players and force people to end up buying gold from gold sellers just to compete. No this is wrong! Still think everything bought from trade houses needs to be bound to the characters to prevent market manipulation like this.

Please, don't sell gold/purple/blue items to vendors lol. At least sell them to someone who can deconstruct it for the materials!

Yeah it was tough for my first character, since he ended up being the main crafter for most things (Provisioning, Blacksmithing, Woodworking and Enchanting. He then ended up being my highest level Clothier too). It was tough since I was saving up for backpack upgrades and then / now bank upgrades. I still need my last 3 bank ones unlocked! Of course I don't sell my unrefined mats yet (I want the achievement first) and refined mats don't sell for much. But while my inventory is manageable, now that I have three Veteran rank characters money is coming in easier now.

When I first started, I was worried about how difficult it would be to earn gold. Last night in an hours worth of farming, I earned 3K in gold... that was with refining the metal, wood and cloth then selling the refined goods to a general merchant and then selling the Alchemy mats I collected in a trade guild. I could make more from selling the refined goods at the trade guild, but I don't find the price from general merchants a bad deal for stacks of refined mats and I usually have a need for the gold right away since I'm working on leveling three crafts by buying high end gear and deconstructing; right now I'm sitting on 17K.

I can easily earn 6K+ by spending two to four hours farming- helps to have points in the skills that help you see various crafting items, especially at night. :)

I actually enjoy farming, it's one of those mindless things I can do after a long 12-hour day at work that doesn't require me to think or use reflexes; I save my questing for days that I'm off.

    1. Join an active trading guild with a guild trader.
    2. Kill until your bags are full.
    3. Loot everything that has vendor value.
    4. Sell green and white looted gear to vendors.
    5. Deconstruct blue and purple gear.
    6. Sell deconstructed material to vendor or list it on the guild trader.
    7. Sell deconstructed green/blue/purple/yellow crafting tempers on the guild trader.
    8. Farm herbs (alchemy plants) and sell them on the guild trader.

    Optional alternatives:
    1. Kill and loot until your bags are full and sell everything to the vendors. Rinse/repeat.
    2. Farm containers for motifs, racial stones like barbarian and Daedric, and provisioning recipes. Sell in chat or guild trader.
    3. Fish, skin fish, sell Perfect Roe in chat or guild trader.
    4. Collect fishing mats (worms, insect parts, crawlers and guts) and sell them in chat or on the guild trader.

Just echoing everyone else, gold is quite easy to come by once you know what you're doing. Ultimately I'm not one to play the action house and spend hours searching different guild stores to snag cheap items to resell, but that's probably one of the better ways to make the big bucks. I made my gold by simply playing the game and buying upgrades when I could. Questing a character from level 1 to VR14 yields quite a bit of gold and gold itself is quite trivial outside of endgame gear and bank / mount / bag upgrades. All in all play the game, vender anything green or below in terms of gear, deconstruct blue or above, sell off anything you don't need and don't hoard on one character. Make multiple 'mules' and store excess gear / material on them in order to save bank / bag space. I have a level 1 with maxed bag space and a maxed capacity mount purely to hold my 'this my be useful in the future' pieces of gear, it really helps the spacing issues.

Great suggestions. Thank you so much.

I had intended to create out a full 8 characters anyhow and play them to level 10 as was suggested so that they all have some stuff to work with (besides I wanted to create a whole family!). I'll start with 4 (one of each class) to start with though.

Question: Do I need to have a bank to trade gear between my toons or can I do it another way?

Bank storage is shared amongst all your characters so you can deposit on one character and withdraw on the other. The other method is to mail items to a friend and have him/her return the mail. This mail can then be accessed by any character or used for (short term) storage.

You have a Shared Bank already. I think it starts at 60 slots (maybe 50, it has been so long since I started upgrading that I can't remember where it starts)

All characters can access the bank, and all crafting stations can pull from the bank for stuff you are making. You can upgrade the bank of course, and it's not cheap, after the first two upgrades.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this, but the Legerdemain system can really help with making gold. Just go loot some easy places (there is one or two places in each zone that has a bunch of stuff and little to no NPCs around to cry alarm).

Also on my Templar who was not doing any crafting, she sold everything she found to game vendors. Now, upgrading 3 horses (that's what we did at the time) and upgrading personal bag space, I still finished zone 1 and the starter islands with 30K in gold. 25 of that came from zone 1. The amount per zone only went up from there. Gold is available if you know where to look. However, you don't really need gold outside of horses and bag space as you can either craft your gear for basically free, or you can use Mob Loot for gear and never repair. Gold just makes some things easier to accomplish (like buying crafting mats instead of farming them)

Enjoy the game, life is what you really want to be worried about.

Do not lose hope little adventurer!

I'm currently sitting at 1.3 mil in my bank, have not bought all the bank upgrades though (I have 170 slots and have not had the need for more yet). I did buy all the gold-bought horses because I did not like their empty silhouettes in my collections tab... I am not in a trade guild either, nor do I "play the auction house". It's just a matter of nabbing the shiniest new things (stuff you can farm/obtain with a bit of luck: motifs, nirncrux and recently the Psijic Ambrosia Recipe parts or some gold upgrade materials you have left over) when the demand is high. Having a good eye for prices is important, I swapped an epic recipe for an Imperial Motif (because it was the last motif I required) when their prices were equal. I believe a week later the price of that recipe had sunk to 20k whilst the Imperial Motif remained at 80k+. When new stuff gets released or droprates seem to have altered is when I rub my hands in money-making glee!

Also another good way of making money is not having to spend it. Having all crafting professions mastered will save you so much gold you will eventually no longer know what to do with the gold you obtain from stuff such as simple questing. It may not make you as much as the above method, but you will likely end up with a sum you can do things with you can only do with gold.

Money only really becomes a problem at end game when you really want to high value gear and you don't grind/quest for it.

Its also a problem if you don't plan your your build properly and keep respeccing your alt and/or you keep trying to change your build and gear.

Is money a problem for me? Yeah. Because of the above :D I would have actually had well over two million gold if I didn't waste it so much.

Some people are power players and have all eight slots of characters, most of which function as "mule" characters to carry their mats for storage. Those guys earn millions daily.

For the average player though with limited amount of playtime each day, you can still make a decent amount of gold. The thing is, you have to look at how everything can make money.
Farming nodes. Farming animals, insects, and bugs. Farming loot. Stealing. Selling unrefined mats for LOTS of gold. Refining unrefined mats and getting upgrade items and THEN selling them for profit. Taking orders for glyphs and selling them. Crafting potions. Crafting provisions. Doing crafting writs. Guild stores. Selling in chat. Stealing and looting.

There are quite a number of ways to make gold and live comfortably, economy-wise.
Figuring out what works for you is one-third of the battle.
Figuring out how to effectively do what works for you is another third of the battle.
Figuring out how to economize your spending and maximize your earning and saving is the last third.
    And the hardest part.

Sheesh guys. Maybe I'll just settle for being poor and not being able to carry anything. It seems like so much work to be rich! That's so unAmerican! At least, once I build this one up, my alt will be a legacy and start off with lotsa mula and stuff.

Yeah, you are correct. This game is loaded with rich, evil businessmen that have nothing better to do than run imaginary trading empires in an imaginary game, for imaginary gold. How could I have forgotten such an obvious fact.

    /sarcasm off.

Go ahead and assume it's fair to think trading guilds are all a bunch of felons and criminals if it floats your boat though. Most of us know better. And I don't care enough anymore to argue about it because conspiracy theorists will never change their minds and they are only happy when someone else is to blame.
