Gold seems to be hard to come by

Gold seems to be hard to come by in TESO unless you literally pick up everything of value and sell it for a large number of levels.

It doesn't help that upgrades to your carry capacity cost an arm and a leg (after the first one that is) and that you can only have 70 items in your starting bank account and even that costs money!

Do I just need to continue farming? Obviously I can't carry very much (basically ever!) so constantly have to travel back to a city/town/merchant to sell it all off (fortunately I've discovered wandering merchants).

I would like to start stocking up on crafting supplies, but, if the limit is 70 items @ 1K at the bank to start and then it goes up hugely to get upgrades, it doesn't seem very cost affective.

Any thoughts?

Unfortunately, I'm still at a loss on what to do about joining groups/MMO, or guilds (I've even considered starting my own since there seem to be so few PS4 guilds for lower level players).

I've seen alot of people say gold is hard to come by.

I'm currently 40 on my character and have stockpiled 35,000.

Is that good? I buy backpack upgrades but I never really run out of space (yet). After each 3 quest areas in a zone I go to town to repair and upgrade etc etc. I pick up almost everything as well aside from provisioning items.

Its not that hard later in the game high level players pay a fortune for some items and lazy players also buy mats. This is all on PC though I have no idea what PS4 is like. I had 20million in about 8 months.

While at lower levels the best way to get gold is to sell raw materials. Or you can refine them and sell the improvement items from them as well. On PC raw materials can sell as high as 3k for a stack of 100-200 if not more. Keep and use the green/blue items you get and sell everything else to vendors. Your gold will add up pretty quickly.

Thanks folks. I guess it's just a matter of patience then.

I can't get in to crafting because it takes up so much inventory to collect the items so I have vast admiration for people who actually do do it, but, I have a feeling that it may be for later in the game. Example: I know about 20 recipes at level 8, but it takes up so much inventory to have the items to make it, I end up leaving behind items of actual value in order to craft them.

Since I almost never use either potions or food (I try to not get killed!), they just take up inventory and I end up selling them and, frankly 2 gold for something, just isn't worth it.

I have found this exact problem.
On top of the 10k I spent on a mount I've had to spend around 12k on bag and bank upgrades which is far too expensive if you ask me considering the money you get for items, unless it has a extra 280% to merchants trait on it, is absolutely nothing even if it's a rare item.
I got a yellow staff the other day and sold it to a merchant for 44coins... it's pathetic really.
I could join a large guild but I don't see why I should be forced to join a guild with hundreds of people I don't even know in person, it weirds me out thinking for all I know these people could have been to prison for serious criminal charges for all I know and I wouldn't even know.
I currently have an 80 slot bank, the next upgrade is 6.6k, and my bank currently consists of 42 different provisioning items because I get the same recipes over and over again, but I can't bring myself to throw the items or sell them for 1 gold each just in case I find a recipe that requires them.
These same provisions... such as an apple, cost 150 each from a Grocer in game. Ridiculous economy if you ask me.

I wonder if starting a guild for low level players would be a good idea? I'm happy to do it if anyone is interested in guiding me. I could use some friends on the PS4 of TESO (none of my PS4 friends play TESO - it's so lonely!) so at least I could try some MMO. I've got to do that 4 person quest to join the Unfettered, or hindered or whatever - you know the mercenary/adventurer guild and am rapidly coming up on the level 12 to do it, but am unsure about making a group since I've never done it before.

Unless they changed things drastically on consoles all you need to do once you have the quest is enter the designated dungeon then go back to the tavern where you got the quest. Once you turn the quest in the Undaunted line will open up, I didn't really mess with it until after level 45 when you can run undaunted pledges.
It doesn't surprise me that people are struggling with the economy as from what I have heard communication on consoles is pretty minimal. You really need a guild to give you a path to sell to other players, on the PC you can use the text chat channel to advertise stuff without that path and by the sound of things not many guild going it would be difficult to get anywhere quickly using only the NPC merchants.

You really shouldn't be selling yellow items to merchants. Even if it is a crap item, the real value comes from breaking it down with crafting skill and reselling the tempers.

Gold really is not hard to come by, when you log in for the first say 20 mins or so go around in any house's that are unlocked, even the main quest houses in the main cities, and just crouch down until you are hidden then steal items from the cupboards , shelves anything worth 30g and over, then once you have enough items you can pop down to the Fencer and sell it.
At later lvls around 20+ I have been getting 250gold items drop from stealing, and also a lot of Motifs.
You can only fence 50 items a day, but once you pop a point or 2 into the ability line you can fence 120 items a day.

I am lvl 27 atm, and if I had not lent gold to my old guild I would have around 50k now, but atm I am sitting on 37k.
Very easy to get gold, if you are willing to spend 20 mins or a bit more a day stealing.

Thanks guys I guess the light is brighter at the end of the tunnel. Have parked 2 level 3's next to the bank for now... will likely join a guild or 2 as much as I don't want to -.- purely because it seems otherwise I will be fighting a losing battle.

Awhile back, I posted a thread entitled "How much gold do you have RIGHT NOW!" Amazed by some of the answers, I started researching the best way to make money.

I joined three trade guilds and started selling stuff - not cheap stuff, but stuff I found that I didn't want, raw materials and crafting supplies I wouldn't need, etc.

Now I'm setting on a bank account of 202k.

EDIT: NOW I wish I could turn my extra gold into "crowns" I could spend at the crown store.

You must be on NA because in EU, you'll be lucky to get 2k for the most valuable material stack. Noticed it's the low level mats that sell for the most, but even then a 200 stack barely exceeds 2k.
I've got thousands of mats up for sale on 2 guildstores in prime locations ranging from 800 to 1400 and it's just not selling, even for below average price.

Best thing to sell is things like blacksmithing tampers, out of all the crafts, they sell for the most and are easy to come by.
Also dwemer scraps and frames sell for very nice cash.

create 4 characters in all professions play them up to level 10 don't spend any money just make it sell all the gear of the three you don't like and consolidate all the gold on the class you like the best and play that one. You should have about 30k to start with. You can go back and play the others later or delete but good to keep the three as bank slots for your main.

    This is your problem here.

I understand you not wanting to join a large guild (although you might be a bit paranoid with your reasoning, you may want to give one a chance. Perhaps you would be pleasantly surprised), but you should at least consider joining five trading guilds. They have little to no interaction, they do not require you to chat in voice or do anything social for that matter. They simply require you to be an active seller on their guild store.

That yellow staff you picked up, pending on level, could have easily gone for 10-25k on a guild store (inter-guild auction house). So my recommendation, join five trading guilds that are populated (400-500 players) and sell every blue/gold item you get, as well as mats, etc. That is how you make some great coin in ESO.

So these auction farms are basically eBay for TESO? Strange.

Of course I could probably make a mint if I knew what anything was worth. I'll have to look.
