Should Meteor be removed from the game?

If im not mistaken wasnt there a group of players that got together and tested different abilities, and meteor was the one that caused the most amount of lag?

This was a reddit thing like a monthish ago

That's by far the most conclusive evidence I've seen saying meteor is causing the lag. Some reedit people might have done some testing.

Yeah, if ZOS would just revert the lighting changes and remove meteor, we'd have an amazing game...right? It certainly wouldn't be the same thing, minus some nice graphics and a skill. People say they cause lag and bad performance, so that must be true, because nothing on the internet is ever false, especially not on game forums.

I mean of course, I don't know why people say only one meteor deals damage, I think it works on all because that's what it looks like in PvP.
    Argh.
The thing that allows a single player to spam meteors is lag, correct?
You can't attribute people spamming meteor as the cause of the lag.. when lag is necessary for that to be possible in the first place.

I assume you run FTC or some other mod to show you outgoing damage? Try spamming an ability during high lag and tell me what happens in your combat text.
I guarantee that it does not match what it looks like (the animations lie)

lol. I guess that still wasn't clear enough.

I haven't said anywhere in that comment that Meteor causes more lag than other skills, although I am very inclined to believe it.

And I am not talking about animations but repeatedly being pulled in the air and to different postions, while my health is taking large hits and my death recap shows many Meteors of the same person.

And because I can kill people, even several at once, with just spamming meteor. I stopped that like a week or two after 1.6 hit as people said it might cause a lot of lag. I do it when people do it on me in some small scale fight occasionally though, and it still works.

Animation change is fine. But something needs to change. PvP is miserable with the lag, and players refuse to do it anything about it themselves.

Carebares all run around together, because they don't want to learn to operate on their own. I would accept any change at this point.

Im sorry WRX, but dont you run around in a two raid zerg ball?

    Sigh
    No.
Our largest groups are 24 people. If we have more who want to join group, we tell them they have to wait until a spot opens.
There are AD guilds who run a full 2 raids, but we don't.

Fix the lag, don't remove the Ultimate. That's just a symptom, not the problem.

Or are we going to be removing DK banners, etc every single time that something creates lag until we don't have any abilities left? Because that seems to be what the OP wants.

Use shooting star on zergers - recieve enough points to cast empowering sweep = 2 ult at once. This is only available combo for non-vampire templar, i don't wanna let it go. Fix the lag, instead of nerfing templars again :expressionless:

Well to that Makkir dude whos post isn't around, no not even close.

We actually have been capping at 16 recently until the past two nights when we simply needed the numbers to fight off the zergs. Still typically hover around 20, which I admit is very large, but it makes the difference between wiping the 40 organized reds and getting wiped.

I vote no for mainly pve reasons.

Ive used meteor in pvp and i really think its a sub par ultimate in cyrodiil myself and have taken it off my bars except for pveing when its usefull because it cant be reflected back at you or completely evaded.

I do agree it is a large contributor to lag in pvp but i do not think it is the sole cause and removing it wont help that much anyways.

Other then the players sperading out ( to the point where you cant see anyone) there will be lag in cyrodiil. it is out of our hands and yes meteor is a problem but then again so is simply being in cyrodiil.

If a skill is known to cause game-breaking issues, it should be disabled until it can be properly fixed. Clearly ZOS is incapable of fixing the actual issues, but they could at least apply band-aid fixes so that we can play the game.

I agree that Meteor is contributing to the lag and if it is then ZOS should adjust/fix it immediately (not by nerfing it though).

However I just don't want people to be surprised when Meteor is fixed and we still have crazy lag in vet campaigns, it's not the only factor.

Caltrops does not move, it has a ground-based target instead. Please cite any AoE other than Meteor that moves with the target, not self targeted, and can be called upon to make the server recalculate the AoE by spamming the ultimate button.
Are you referring to the visual effect which follows the player prior to meteor landing?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but that seems to not apply any damage (so no server calc needed) The dot on meteor only kicks in after meteor has landed, at which point it stops following the targeted player and acts like any other ground targeted effect.
Clearly the server is not recalculating the damage of meteor each time the ult is spammed, (again visual effect only) so why would you assume any distance checks were being performed?

Well maybe the animation cause what I been hearing it's the meteor spam that's causing the lag.

It really seems like this is an elaborate game of telephone, with a few anecdotes and some hearsay thrown in.

Is it possible that meteor causes more lag than other AoE's, sure.
I see no reason why it should based on what it's doing though.

    @ToRelax
You've described a few things that have other plausible explanations.
Being pulled repeatedly 'to different positions' sounds like rubber banding.
This is a general symptom of server lag.
Now, is it possible to be rubberbanded back into a 'knocked into the air' state? I'm not sure.

There are a few cases where you'll see multiple meteors in a recap from the same person.
It's easily possible to have 5+.

    1) it seems the dot tick and initial damage may be displayed separately in the recap.
    2) a player may have reflected several meteors in addition to casting their own. You may be hit by the reflected meteor of your teammates, all bouncing off the same target.

If meteor is causing more lag than other AoE's, we have far less data about that then ZoS does.
If dramatically reducing lag were really just as simple as removing, or fixing a single ability, it would have been done months ago.

If we could get cooperation of an entire server, then we could test this out ourselves.

The effect graphics just need to be changed so that it won't lag everyone out when a 24 man grp uses it all at once.

Yet another thread where PVPers QQ about this or that skill because of Cyrodiil lag or a perceived advantage without a passing thought on what this means to PVE, where most players play. Do you really think the problems in Cyrodiil are just a few skill animations? I was there last night at a dolmen with horrible lag and not a single meteor cast. The fact that everything used to work fine in Cyrodiil should promote a cry for ZO$ to fix whatever *** up code they introduced that broke Cyrodill, not to nerf every other skill that is very useful and problem free everywhere but Cyrodiil.

I agree that sometimes skills and classes get nerfed all because the game is trying to fix a PVP issue. But how freaking hard is it to have skills that work one way in Cyrodiil, and another way outside Cyrodiil?

For example, DKs should not be able to leap onto keep walls in Cyrodiil, but if they reduce the range of Dragon Leap it will impact PVE DKs. So they neeed to find a way to code the skills so they work a certain way in Crodyiil, and a sightly different way outside of it, so they changes for pvp does not screw up the game for everyone else

They've been pretty adamant from the start that ESO is ONE game, not PvE ESO and PvP ESO. They want the skills to work the same everywhere.
