So if I pay for a speedier horse, does that give me an advantage over someone else who also has a maxed out horse?

Triple the amount of time spent on horse upgrades, then charge players to make it go faster.
I find this quite convenient @ZOS.
Yes.
Firor made a statement about them not changing the game and then charging Crowns. The following statement was made on February 12, prior to the horse changes in 1.6:The Road Ahead - February wrote:We're adding customization and convenience items in the Crown Store, but those will be added to the game as it is now; we're not going to make it harder for you to enjoy the game you already play to encourage you to use the Crown Store.
In light of the Crown training, and now that 1.6 has changed the game so that it takes longer, I think it is time to change horse riding training for gold so that each of the riding skills can be done every 20 hours.
but seriously. people are too concerned about what other people are doing. We should all just play our own game and let others play it the way they want to play it. If that includes paying money to circumvent ACTUAL gameplay, who am I to judge that or dictate that they shouldn't do that?
Im sry, i understand what P2W mean but.... in ESO, is there anything to win ?

In a game based mostly on progression and no real clear "The End" it is more like P2WINNING. It's more about the process of skipping content or getting boosts to get you closer to relatively more power, quicker.

I would call topping the leaderboards (PvP or PvE) as "winning" in ESO.

Um, OK I'm not a PVPer so I could be wrong on this, but wouldn't horse training help you with the PVP leaderboards? I mean, with more horse speed and stamina you're more likely to be able to chase down enemy players, while avoiding being knocked off your horse when ambushed by them. And A faster horse means less time getting to the site of a battle where you can get AP, so it improves your efficiency of AP gains. Or am I out to lunch on this?Im sry, i understand what P2W mean but.... in ESO, is there anything to win ?

Yes, and faster training on the horse will get you there......wait no it won't......oh sorry I forgot, it's the first step on a presumed slippery slope........

So someone who maxed out their horse using the crown store is more competitive than someone who maxed out their horse the traditional way?

Of course not, but you get there much quicker.
That's almost like saying, "Does me buying all of my champion points give me an advantage over someone else with all of their champion points?"
Well... no, but you can get there a hell of a lot quicker and skip a gigantic grind mechanic.

Because you INSIST on writing in past tense. One takes approx 180 days while the other is instant.
So, it's not Maxed (traditional) VS Maxed (crown store)
IT IS ....Slowly Maxing (traditional) VS Maxed (crown store)
But you are being purposefully obtuse I think, so I'm done with this.

I just don't believe in this 180 day right of passage that is horse skill training. Horse speed and stamina give a mobility advantage, no doubt about that. It'll get you to the fight faster and safer but once you're engaged, that extra horse stamina won't save you, if you're lacking the skill/gear/lvl. There's a reason a lot of people save their horse stamina upgrade for last, it's a miniscule advantage, very situational and the fact that a lot of people prefer extra bag space over it, really speaks for itself.
If training your horse skill felt meaningful in some way, I'd be more opposed to bypassing it with a cash sink. I'm not in favor of items that let you bypass content but I hardly consider horse skill training to be content.
I'd be totally ok, if zos decided to make horse skill training purely a gold sink, instead of the mindless time sink and chore that it is today. If they took away the 1 upgrade per day limitation or at the very least allowed us 2-3 upgrades a day, I'd be happy; even if they increased the cost exponentially. Instead, it looks like they're going to make it an optional cash sink. Come to think of it, we don't really know their plans, they may introduce a gold alternative to the crown store item we saw data mined. All we know, is someone dug up a picture of items that look like they're going to affect your horse skills.
Is it p2w? I guess that depends on how nit picky you are with the term. If you insist that is it p2w then I must insist that it is just barely so, it's such a slight, circumstantial advantage, in terms of actually winning something with it that I think it's acceptable.
Just make the stable accept crowns or gold for lessons, there's no need to let anyone skip the time sink.
Do crown store potions skip the cooldown?
Does crown store food stack?
Selling the wrong things will cost you money in the long run. Don't be stupid ZOS.

We are all sharing horses so maybe charge a flat cost per character to ride but the mounts should've stayed separated as far as skill but open for use of all characters.
Can you even begin to imagine the whining if we had to train mounts up the old way now that an account can have all the senches, guars and horses it wants and, no doubt, many more to come as they release into the crown store?
"I spent 3k crowns on this panther senche and I still have to spend months training it up waaaahhh"
Some people will always expect to log into the game and be presented with an 'I won' badge, ZOS should continue to resist them.
It's not.. winning.
You do the work already. You spend 6 months training a mount to max it out, on every single character.
It's not like anybody is asking to just have the training done for free.
Hmm, come to think of it, why is THAT not in the Crown store?
