Why is it so hard to have text chat as an option? Want to use it, fine type away. Don't want to use it? Settings>Chat>Text> Turn off text chat

So Smurf as you continue to unblock me to see my posts, then go back to hiding. Answer this simple question....since you are the ONLY one arguing against having text chat.

No ZOS marketing bs answers. No comparing MMOs to 5 player party MP console games, no FPS games.

No need for arguing at all....just answer 'Why not have text chat as optional?'
Why not just play on the pc where you have all of those features?? Answer that?

Exactly. That's been the question that those in favor of text chat won't answer....
Then somehow they try and deflect the question saying we are trying to make them play like us.

Funny as there are 0 threads saying hey PC Ppl, you need to stop using text chat on PC

The reason why I want to play on console is because I'm a console player that has been waiting a year to play the game on console with my friends. The reason why I think text chat should be put back into the console version is that without it a fundamental part of the game play will be missing. Without a way to communicate to other members of your Alliance that are not in your group or guild in Cyrodiil means that you are no longer fighting an Alliance War.

You don't understand how your ESO client crashing every time you go into town, or go interact with NPCs, wouldn't crush your PC experience? It's still an ongoing issue for me since 1.6.5, so yes...I will move to console.

I play both platforms, and MMOs should have text chat regardless of where they are.

Guild chat in the beta worked where 35 of us were talking/able to talk no matter zone or alliance but when we were in guild chat where could not hear group or proxy chat at least not in the beta

This isn't at you KrisButtar but at the guy I decided to keep blocked.
Please go back as I've commented at least a few times why not to add text chat as optional.
ZOS has also done the same.

@KrisButtar In the chat options menu, you would need to turn on/off the channel you want to be in or out. I'm sure there is a max of two or three but group chat and prox chat worked just fine.

I never had 35 in guild chat but noticed when in guild chat and grouped, there are three different chats that I can turn on/off. My take was if two are on, the third turns itself off which makes sense cause that's a lot of different chats going on all at once but party chat didn't seem to interfere when on Xbox one

Gotta try it at release but I recall it being in the chat menu during beta

cus those people only see from an mmo player perspective and they don't understand that from an Elder Scrolls player perspective it is a bad feature to have, but the devs are trying to appeal to both players, but mmo players are never happy they are needy and can be very annoying.. Thats simple really I'm the only one of my friends who owns a pc, so they don't even have copies of the pc version. Some bought the new consoles to play this game. We all want to play together. If I want to play with my friends it will have to be console. ZOS when through all the trouble of adding voice chat, we want to use it(hell voice chat is a great idea) but they need to at least incorporate solutions/fixes to all the key features that are missing without a chat box or worst case add it back as optional.

    Irony.

Console platform games have to go through a approval process before they are allowed onto console. You won't find Console games crashing because it's a set hardware, no differences. No different drivers, no different hardware, OS is set, there is nothing different from one console to another(Xbox to Xbox).

PC is totally different, many variables.

I hate to say it, but @Argoniawind is right in the sense that on a PC you can diagnose and resolve the issue (in most cases). On a console, you can download the latest update for your hardware/game and that's about it. If it fails, it fails completely.

Thats simple really I'm the only one of my friends who owns a pc, so they don't even have copies of the pc version. Some bought the new consoles to play this game. We all want to play together. If I want to play with my friends it will have to be console. ZOS when through all the trouble of adding voice chat, we want to use it(hell voice chat is a great idea) but they need to at least incorporate solutions/fixes to all the key features that are missing without a chat box or worst case add it back as optional.

Don't worry voice chat will work just fine, its not the horror show everyone is making it out to be cus they want text chat window in.. its a manipulative tactic that I don't fall for... voice chat is a perfect fit for ESO..

So how will you communicate with hundreds of guildies? Or large groups in Cyrodiil? Hell, you can't even talk to your PSN party members and ESO party members at the same time. Yeah, sounds like a great fit for ESO...
I personally wont be communicating at all, but for those of you do that use voice chat, why don't you just wait and see when its released and then you maybe surprised this whole time what they have in store maybe what everyone wasn't expecting that just maybe the ultimate thing that no other game offers for voice chat capabilitys...

Well just like this game and other Elder scrolls games you grow with it see the changes and other features that will work, you guys have got to understand Bethesda hired these devs to take on such a massive project to please both fan bases, they are no joke they hired some of the best people in the world to take on and innovate and work with the community directly and yes they cannot please everyone no one can, but given the time and understanding from both communitys and still follow the Elder Scrolls core features and lore, they will obviously bring out the very best in this game as best as they can....

I have fought in Cyrodiil and I don't communicate with anyone and it works just fine! Besides headset will be your friend as im sure they are innovating options for those reasons..

Why not just play on the pc where you have all of those features?? Answer that?

    Because of this LINK

A constant crash report that's your answer? lmao

You that dumb that you don't understand how your ESO client crashing every time you go into town, or go interact with NPCs, wouldn't crush your PC experience? It's still an ongoing issue for me since 1.6.5, so yes...I will move to console.

I play both platforms, and MMOs should have text chat regardless of where they are.
You must be dumb to know that any platform can have crashes, and since playing any Elder Scrolls games they all come with there awesome bugs.. So naturally I welcome crashes and bugs, cus I know that there is no such thing as a perfect running game!!! your not to bright!

    Irony.

Console platform games have to go through a approval process before they are allowed onto console. You won't find Console games crashing because it's a set hardware, no differences. No different drivers, no different hardware, OS is set, there is nothing different from one console to another(Xbox to Xbox).

PC is totally different, many variables.

right sure whatever you say, I have had many games crash on my consoles, oh does the pc get the red ring of death? nah they get the blue screen of death.. I love consoles but lets be realistic electronics and other hardware failure is more detrimental on the console than pc cus you can just swap os and other hardware if it fails on the pc...

I hate to say it, but @Argoniawind is right in the sense that on a PC you can diagnose and resolve the issue (in most cases). On a console, you can download the latest update for your hardware/game and that's about it. If it fails, it fails completely.

I was referring to the games themselves. I've mentioned before my career (other thread). I know why things break, I know what code breaks things, I know what the difference is between a 'baseline' system and a 'variable' system.

When I submit an app or game to Xbox, I have to pass many tests that go beyond my own QA. The game passes when it plays through stress tests on console, representing a players experience.

Red ring of Death isn't a games fault, it was the console's problem. You want to know what the root cause was of that issue? The heatsin that covered the CPU, it warped and caused the CPU to to disconnect from the MB connections and the Red ring of death. The fix for this was the quick fix, wrap the Xbox 360 in the towel and let it overheat causing the solder to reconnect the CPU to the MB. The permanent fix, if you didn't fry the CPU already...open the Xbox and use new, longer bolts on the heatsink and tighten it down so the CPU has a firm connection.

On a PC, I have to consider so many variables with the end user, what MOBO, what video card, what memory, how much, what HD, RAID vs SATA vs IDE, what soundcard, what network card....then all the driver versions that go with that. For console, I can go to Target and buy Xbox One, get a developer kit, and know that I have a baseline system to develop on.

So...Since I have text chat in my PC version, and i'm porting it over to Console...I leave text chat in and require a keyboard with a Enter key and code that to listen to that event to initiate chatting on console.

While you hold true that text chat is the only way an MMO can succeed, you're disregarding all the other multiplayer games on console that succeeded without text chat where is almost, all cases a valid argument can be made to add text chat into those games. Valid based on the logic and preferences of those in favor of having text chat.

Thing is all those multiplayer games you like to fire off as examples, Destiny, COD, BF ... can be played with-out even using voice-chat so your arguement there is moot & invalid.
Freedom of not having to type when voice chat is built into the systems also adds value to a players experience.
My challenge to you as some say to me....try joining guilds that use voice chat primarily and imagine if you can if it was an integral part of the game, how much time it saves you just from typing alone vs talking.

No freedom is having the choice to use voice or text, or even both (prolly the case for most people here). Not forcing one way down the player's throat as well as excluding a good chunk of the possible new playerbase.
So while I go back and block you again to keep your post clean....or at least try to keep it on topic, all this is honestly about what ZOS decided and people outcry back to ZOS just like the other 1400+ threads. I like what I experienced and so I'll continue to fight to keep the experiences that I love or like while supporting change to experience changes
So now you are either blocking or reporting people you don't agree with? ... WOW real classy there :/

I remember doing this to my 360 shortly before dumping it and moving to PC. :)

In all seriousness though, I understand where you're coming from.

Almost 9 pages and another thread of over 12-15 pages and it's the same ol stuff

    -conclusion-

If the PC version has the type of communication you prefer....stay on PC
If there is something on PC that you don't like and something on console you do like more....change
If you like text chat...stay on PC
If you prefer voice chat and controller support, move to console
If you feel like ZOS needs to change the UI or other elements on console so that it's more like PC....stay on PC

Apparently people just have money to throw away cause IF your PC is up to spec, and you want text chat....why would you ever change over.

Maybe you have a friend on console....O K, then play with them on voice chat but don't try and change console cause your buddy can't afford or doesn't want to buy a new PC. Also the same applies in reverse.

Get in where you fit in....keep it moving

Fine ... cut me a check for a gaming PC & I'll do it "your way"

Right, but it's the only form of communication in the game, and it's missing some very essential functions...

That long-winded, single sentence response is all you can come back with? Also, "...time and understanding..." I only wish you were attempting to make a good joke...

Well PC isn't ideal according to the threads either for some so maybe the audiences get split in the right way
    Sure some won't budge but

    1. Those are examples of games on console that are very similar to other games on console with text chat.
Those without are outselling those with

    2. It's freedom from trying to keep a keyboard close by or putting down a controller to type and then need to pick it up or balance between the two while trying to play. Freedom is not making it so everyone is happy. That's not freedom at all. You're using the word out of context. Freedom comes with giving up things to have a better experience so examples could be: America or a civil Wars for independence (not to do whatever you want or to make everyone happy as there was sacrifice and limitations in all )

    3. I'm blocking them due to a very negative past with numerous interactions where as a result a MOD asked that I block them. It's not limited to a disagreement trust me.

The idea that everyone should be happy isn't something any company can accomplish. IF ZOS adds in text chat, then all the reasons they decided not to have it because questionable.

Look at the forums...they changed on a few things so now everyone thinks that if the complain enough they'll get what they want.

And I pointed out that games crash on any platform and the console is not safe, while I prefer playing all games on the consoles, im not oblivious to the fact that games have and will crash on consoles to pc to handhelds.. just a fact!!!
