i am currently averaging 3+ crashes a day, and at least twice that of endless load screens

My game started crashing quite frequently too a while ago, however I managed to fix it and its been crash free ever since.

Try deleting the contents of your Documents/Elder Scrolls Online folder, then letting the game regenerate them when you launch it.

I uninstalled/re-installed the game last night so we'll see if that fixes my crashes. This process may be something we'll need to do every few months to keep all the files up to date. The easiest way to do it is uninstall before your going to go to sleep. Install it and let it be downloading while sleeping and then your all ready to go in the morning. Once the installation has started, you won't need to click anything else.

When whole groups of people crash at the same time in cyrodiil, it's really hard to blame the individual's PC hardware...

@Faugaun @Robbmrp So it's been a couple days and I haven't crashed once. Dare I say that my crashing is resolved?

Agree with Robbmrp, in a few months after a few more patches and potential game repairs, we may need to do this again. Well, I guess you'll know if you start crashing again that maybe it is time. But if it is fixed for now, I am very happy.

Yeah, that's an unrelated problem that as far as I have seen is exclusive to Cyrodiil.

This crashing I and others have been having is completely random, you could be opening your bank or a crafting table, or even just running and I would crash (and only me)

Hate to say it but the only way to get things like this to the top of the list, is to start talking about it in other forums, games sites, FB, Reddit. If we only talk about it here, its very easy for them to brush it under the rug.

A bit paranoid, don't you think?

    How so? Care to explain?

Well, I mean that's the whole point of a 'Tech Support' forum right? So, you know, techies can keep track of current issues?Forum mods just redirect most legitimate tech support threads there anyways. Why on Earth would you think posting your problem on FB or Reddit would solve your technical issues? Maybe get with the BBB while you're at it, lol.

Well, you havent been here long so Ill help you out.

Because its not a technical issue as far as 'we' the players are concerned. The poor codding of this game has been a problem since day one. I know this for a fact because I have been here every day since launch. I have tried to help countless people with there technical issues.

If you have ever put in a support ticket, then you know that 'tech support' is a joke. They will always say the problem is on your end. They tell you to repair, they tell you to re-install, they ask you to restart your computer. All of these things are just them brushing it under the rug and making it 'not there problem'

On a side note, this is not a tech support forum. You can tell by the fact that this post is in the General Discussion area. There is a tech support forum, but this is not it. You know what they tell you if you post a tech issue in the correct 'Tech' area? They tell you to make a bug report in game. Just another way for them to skate around the issue.

Dont be blind. I love this game. Probably more than you lol. That is exactly why I am so hard on ZO$. I want it do be as it should be. Which is a flawless game that has millions of players.

As with any company that wants to make money, bad publicity is usually the only way to make them address the major, game breaking issues. If you just come to the forums and complain, the public never sees it. If they dont like what you have said about them, they will remove it. If you post in other places, and it makes them look bad. They can not delete posts and comments from sites that they have no control over. They will loose money, they will make changes. Its really not that hard to understand.

Yes, because your defaming cries on other forums/social websites have caused great change in said coding from launch to date...

I've been having issues too since the latest round of patches. I find I most often get the endless load screens if I have had the character select screen up for a while, so what I do is when I am done, I close the game and the launcher, then re run them when I want to play instead of keeping the character select screen up on my pc most of the time. In the last week though I have had 3 to 4 in game crashes, which up until now had never happened.

But I'm also a programmer and I understand the complexity of the game. It works correctly 99.99% of the time, but one in a thousand given the player base results in several people crashing per day. If you find yourself experiencing in game crashes the first thing I would suggest is that you turn down your video quality settings. Not that it's an excuse for it happening, but given the tens of millions of lines of code in ESO, if not hundreds of millions of lines, and the fact that none of these situations are easily replicated, or even reported as bugs ... I don't report them because I just want to get back to playing, I can see how they would be damn near impossible for the developers at ZOS to track them down and fix them. Part of what makes this game so compelling to play is it's sheer size and complexity. Not having rock solid stability kind of goes with the territory. Still, if you want it to be fixed, the best thing to do is to immediately report all crashes to ZOS. It's far more effective than generally complaining on the forum.

Actually, some solutions mentioned in this thread may have fixed the crashing problems of some users. So I tend to disagree that contacting ZOS can be more fruitful than discussing problems on the forums.

Of course, if people are just looking to complain or vent without really trying some suggestions to fix their problem...well there is nothing that can help them, I suppose.

I tried many things to fix the crashing: disabling all addons, turning ALL graphics to low or off (couldn't imagine that people actually play like that...), but the only thing that helped me was a clean uninstall and reinstall of the game.

So to anyone having random crashing (NOT screen freezing, that may be an unrelated issue), I highly recommend reinstalling the game.

    just some basic, quick thoughts:
    close EVERYTHING except the game
turn off ALL add-ons in the game
start -> search -> windows update
go to your video card vendor website and update drivers
    reboot
get something to clean the crap out - I use wise365 (it's free and amazing)
    reboot
    try the game
If it doesn't work, rename the folder (ZOS.old is what I pick) and re-download the game.
Try and see if it's better

I also keep resource monitor running (start task manager, click on resource monitor, click on memory, find ESO in the list).
I notice weird behaviour when it starts getting close to 3 gigs of ram being used.
I have 12 gigs of ram with a dual-quad core motherboard and an nvidia 770 graphics card.
I run wise365 probably every day or every other day.

8 hours in Cyrodiil today and no crash. I think it's safe to say that the full reinstall did the trick.

Don't know how else to describe it. With each patch I experience more frequent crashes and much more frequent infinite loading screens. About 1 crash to desktop per 6 hours played and about 3 infinite loading screens per 6 hours played. Deleting saved variables for addons doesn't help. And i'm not willing to start completely removing addons to see if it helps. My addons are essential.

Keep working on that console version ZOS. We PC players understand we're not important to you.

    So....

I re-installed a copy of the game on Wednesday night....

Game started crashing Thursday night as well as getting <1> errors again when trying to port into Rawlkha. I am using Addons and they are up to date and have never caused a problem with this before so I doubt they are the issue.

Sorry to hear that, @Robbmrp. I've gotten <<1>> errors as well as infinite loading screens since my reinstall, but not a single crash to desktop.

Today the game froze in loading screen. I mean that kind of freeze that happen when you run around in craglorn spamming skills and jumping because you are bored.

With the last update, I'm now experiencing several freezes during every session. The error in my windows event application log (sometimes I don't get any errors?)indicates that the game froze due to heap memory corruption. I don't have this problem with any other application on my computer. Looks to me like a memory leak somewhere.

I did a 24 hour memory test last week with no memory failures, so I don't think I have bad or defective memory.

The freezing started with update 1.6 and its getting more frequent with each update.

If these freezes aren't fix by the next update then I'm canceling my subscription. This is insane! I'm not paying for a half-a$$ product!

BTW, it also freezes with the frequency and same error on my backup computer.

Yeah..I gotta agree. The crashes are beyond annoying at this point. I have submitted 4-8 "crash reports" a day now for weeks. You would think something would be done. As others have said, my computer (drivers etc) are up to date, firewall has been checked out all good there.. I have uninstalled - re-installed rinsed repeated etc etc etc. It ISN'T our computers that are the issues: its the game!

I've applied launcher repairs over and over hoping it would be fixed - nothing. I have noticed that sometimes (started yesterday) I get the beginning loading splash screen as if I have just entered the game and then it flashes back to whatever I was doing in the game before: It then crashes....THIS never happened for me prior to the last patch.....so if all else was equal and now you add something new...you have to look at the NEW thing as the possible reason for the problems.

One thing I have noticed since I re-installed the game is less crashes. I still get them occasionally but not as often as before. Yesterdays patch was also the first patch in months where I didn't have any 209 errors after it completed also. Not sure if that has to do with the re-install but seems too coincidental to not be.

I haven't updated my Addon's in a while and since I have less crashes now than before last Wednesdays re-install, that just PROVES IT'S NOT ADDON RELATED. IMHO this issue has to be with the Launcher. When it updates files over and over again, there could be some data integrity issues popping up within it that could be causing most of the issues. @ZOS needs to completely redesign the launcher anyway to work in the background anyway so this would be a great time for it.

For those of you who haven't re-installed the game within a few months, I would suggest doing that. Uninstall the game just before your logging off for the night, follow the steps to get the download started and then head to bed. It will download over night and be ready in the morning. This will not clear up ALL of the issues but hopefully most of them.
