large group play, how would folks feel about major zone boss challenges?

    What I would also like to see is a 10-15 minute warm up with the ground shaking and thunder rumbling.
    People need time to finish what they are doing and get to the site if they are in the middle of a dungeon or something.
    The sense of anticipation, the rush and the calm before the storm.. would hopefully add to the atmosphere.
    Could you imagine a whole army of players rolling up one by one from all directions ?

    That's what I miss from the dolmens now.

    I do wonder if the the factions would actually help to defeat the beast, our simply whack each other for control over it.
    Unfortunately with ideas like these we simply must assume a worst case scenario, being the strongest faction would maintain control of the area, camp the boss, wipe all who come near then take the boss. /worstcasescenario
    The trick Would be not to make the reward game breaking, but to also make it worth fighting for.

This makes it so it just doesn't become a long chore that can be done with enough healers.
    That could work. The idea is to allow an on the spot Pug to complete it, but not easily.
    Should the difficulty scale based on the average level of players involved? Perhaps to the average of the highest 50%? Or perhaps it should remain static like dolmens?

    I would have it be static if it's going to include 1 in every region. Overlevelled people don't really get to benefit from it, but can come to help.

    I think over leveled people should benefit somewhat. There Are some zones that are downright boring and don't see many players (shadowfen).
    Also would be a good reason for vets to revisit.

    With the removal of veteran ranks in the future, you would already see about 12 bosses that will be for those at level cap. That would include all 10 current VR zones, craglorn, and coldharbor. So I don't see making 5 of not benefiting those level capped to be an issue.

    I've mentioned something like this before. They would have to make spawn locations random and spawn times between a certain range, not on the clock so groups have a hard time farming it over and over.

    What carrot & stick would you want then? Better EXP? Better siege weapons (like Cyrodiil dolmens)? Tokens?

    So if you don't want a "rare reward" system but want all those items, what are you going to do the moment you have them? Complain about the lack of content?

    They're a time sink, and no MMO can last without time sinks, otherwise everyone "completes" the game in a matter of days or weeks and then they move on to the next unsatisfying thing.

    To be fair you have other games that will have bosses drop crafting mats or tokens so you still need to defeat them several times to be able to craft something. It does make things a little boring without that Christmas day present opening feeling, but us a viable way to hand that as well. Both cases have grinds to it though, one is a set amount of times and the other is an random counter when you'll be finished.

    Mmo's can be a timesink if the community is good enough for players to stick in it. I have grown fairly tired of the game, and don't even lvl up my alts since grind has been nerfed into oblivion ....

    Yes please.

    Honestly though, they have an overflowing plate as it is. We can't realistically ask for stuff like this. They can't even fix bugs a year old :(

    Gw2 does this well (13 world bosses), excluding temple champions. Boss fights reset around every 4 hours from memory, although you can only gain loot once every 24 hours from each of the world bosses. Gw2 also has the mega server event timer webpage. Makes life a lot easier when hunting for boss events to do & they are also part of the dailies.
    The gw2 world boss fights scale with player numbers too. More players you have, more difficult the fight is (longer it takes).

    I'd like to see something along that line in this game, eventually. Like above you'd need to limit how often you get loot & experience, otherwise we would end up seeing a repeat of what happened last year with bots/players camping on the boss spawn. Perhaps achievements could be added for completing boss events.

    I soloed world bosses in v1 area with my lvl 45 sorcerer, while I saw poor v1 sorcerers with pets out struggling to get 1 mob down.

    These new players eventually learn and get better. They roll alts and the game suddenly seems so much easier. I'm playing an alt now with completely broken armor for the last 7 levels and I'm still soloing world bosses. With 0 armor rating. There really needs to be some fun and challenging overworld content.

    I will probably get flamed for this but here goes....


    I most definitely would love to have more "big boss" content spread throughout the zones. Especially if they dropped rewards. HOWEVER... I have to dissagree with what seems to be the vast majority that seems to think that just rag tag no grouped characters should be able to fight the boss.

    You think Cyrodil lag is bad? oh lordy... wait until you make a mega boss that spawns say once a day?(which i think should be the minimum time for such events). RIP every-bodies framerate cause the whole server will be there hacking away at it. Plus when the whole freakin server is fighting the boss the content becomes less then trivial.

    No the only way to keep it challenging would be some sort of force pop methodology where only those in the group of the person that poped said boss would be able to damage it.

    These items could be oh i dont know... say a necromancers ancient staff thats been shattered into peices and drop off of several different bosses in or out of dungeons and needs to be put together by a master woodworker. Or say a plate of dragon bait made by a provisioner who has collected various ingredients from several tasty bosses to create.

    Item forced World bosses seem to not be a thing anymore in your "millennial MMO" and i really fail to understand why. Frankly me an my mates used to love lowmaning pop bosses with way less people then recommended for the challenge , comradery , and sometimes even prestige.

    In short TLDR take your Riddalin and read the GD post. But yes to big world bosses / no to having it be an all zone faceroll

    Yes lag could be a problem. Even some of the world boss battles in gw2 suffer from lag because of the large amount of players involved. Not uncommon to see 50 + depending on time of day (time zone).

    I would love that alongside all sorts of events,ESO has too little things happening in the world,Sometimes it can feel a bit.. dull,Guild wars 2 does a great job on making a alive world.

    The reason I play this MMO and not others is in large part because it is somewhat different than the plethora of tedious clones out there and has, sometimes to its cost, resisted calls to become just like all the others.

    If it gradually morphs into just another mmo the I don't see what would make it worth playing?

    It's called familiarity for the sake of the conversation. Otherwise we'd have to explain every little detail and concept, when we can easily just say 'like this other game.' Just about every concept from this game you play right now is similar or "like" a countless amount of other games that already existed, even table top games. So your doubts aren't really sound.

    Great idea. In Cyrodiil I could imagine something along those lines: Every alliance gets their own world boss close to their spawn, and they would all appear at the same time, maybe three times a day. The goal being that all three factions have to complete the event simultaneously (within half an hour time window, maybe) in order for the whole thing to succeed.

    If one alliance fails - no special reward, just some xp. ;)

    The numbers given as options are intended as open world. If it's 4+ you can still bring 10 more people along, though the fight may scale up. The point is you'd need a minimum 4 people for that fight and soloing it would be difficult to near impossible. Same with 12 and 24. This also means folks wouldn't need to group to participate either. The later options a dress those that may still want things to be instanced encounters.

    Just to point out ...you've got already 'world bosses' and 'elites' in game.
    First of all every skull on the map is a challenge (IF you're on the same level)
    So while questing and leveling up you can always take the challenge of skull and test yourself (doesn't apply to grinders).
    In Craglorn you've got 'elites' in many points.
    Now, since your gear is great you can solo everything, sure but it was for wet11's and vet13's
    ...so complaining about no challenge somehow doesn't seem valid.
    Let me guess ...you've got all trials completed in hard mode right? :smile:
