Indeed. I played Rift from launch and the Zone invasions where the big bad boss thing took usually 1-2 raids of Players was a great mechanic. The only problem I would see with this in ESO is ZoS's absolutely terrible grouping design. Without Players actively asking to be brought into group there would be little chance that they would get the participation credit due to ZoS's other terrible combat mechanic for credit of kill. Also you would then have the issue of level gaps, where some Player who was at the fight the entire time and did a good amount of Healing for example would get no XP/loot because there was a full raid of VR14's, another one of ZoS's terrible designs.4+, because that can go all the way up to 24

Kind of like dolmens at launch.

I really could have voted for any of the first 3 options in the poll, but I went for the 24+ option because with the others there's always the chance that a really good player with a good build could solo them, and if we're going to have major zone challenges (which I think we should), I want them to be ones where you have to put out a call for help in /zone and hold off on going in until you've got a good number of people around to help out.
Kind of like dolmens at launch. Don't get me wrong, I'm OK with dolmens the way they are now (for the most part - it'd be nice if there was a bit more scaling to keep it from being a total faceroll when you've got a good number of people there), but at launch they provided the "oh crap, I need a lot of people to help with this" factor, and they don't really do that any more. At-level they are soloable with a good build, and with a moderately good build they can be taken on by 2 players.
So yeah, I want something that's a major challenge, requiring a whole bunch of players to take down. I would think not more than 1 of these per zone, and not something that is instanced by group (so that people don't have to group to do it - they can just show up when someone puts out a call in /zone).
Note: I'm coming at this from the point of view of a primarily solo player. I do the vast majority of my playing solo in ESO, but I still want there to be challenging content that requires multiple players to complete.
I also remember the first dolmen that I encountered at about level 6 or 7 in Glenumbra (Daenia Dolmen)... I had been doing everything else by myself up to that point with no problems at all, and I didn't realize that this would be any different. I got my butt handed to me. Badly. It was only when I resurrected at a wayshrine and saw people posting in /zone that the dolmen was up that I realized that this was meant to be completed by a bunch of people.

Excellent way to put it. That's what I'd like to see too. Not so much an event that a guild gets together and plans to go and do (although if they want to get a group together and try to find one spawning, there's no problem with that either), but something that the community as a whole gets together to complete. Or, at least, the portion of the community that's online and in that zone at the time.Rune_Relic wrote: »I really could have voted for any of the first 3 options in the poll, but I went for the 24+ option because with the others there's always the chance that a really good player with a good build could solo them, and if we're going to have major zone challenges (which I think we should), I want them to be ones where you have to put out a call for help in /zone and hold off on going in until you've got a good number of people around to help out.

+1 ...Spot on for me.
I don't want to see this as a group event.
I want to see this as a community event.
Where large numbers are required on the fly in a desperate battle.
Not something that happens every 5 mins 24/7 though.
Something random when enough players are online to handle it.

Not going to lie, I read your post and said to myself "hey, yeah!" @UrQuan Quit copying what I said! Haha Just kidding. Totally agree.

I could see this... but it sure would need something to prevent just continuous farming for great unique items that may drop...
Perhaps make it something like a pledge to get the reward. So you get a daily pledge, instead of just a mass of people waiting for it to respawn to be rewarded. The pledge would be region specific, and of course level specific.
Level appropriate rewards would be fine, perhaps maybe a new way to share some new item sets.
Would also be cool to see a few roaming in Cyrodiil.

One per faction or zone would be great.
Make it big enough that people find it challenging.
Make the fight epic enough to need a large group.
Make it fun so people want to do it in the first place.
Make it rewarding enough that people want to do it again.
And do not require grouping just to do it.
As many have already pointed out, old school dolmens are the way to go on this.
We should definitely discuss pros and cons to this.
That could work. The idea is to allow an on the spot Pug to complete it, but not easily.rajaniemiorama_ESO wrote: »This game desperately needs a reason to group in PvE without forcing them to do it just for a grind.

Of course. Sort of like a enraged timer from other games would be good. So once the fight begins, if it is not settled after a certain allotment of time, then the boss gets enraged, increasing power and defense. This makes it so it just doesn't become a long chore that can be done with enough healers.

Interesting thought for Cyrodiil, since it always comes up when scroll running to do a dolmen, might be to place a scroll at an ayleid ruin to spawn a major boss? I could see that being fun and a major fight spot as well. Imagine a world boss you need to fight with combinations of dps, tanks, healers, siege and against the 3 way fight of the other alliances =3
