Started with Daggerfall, and I remember one holiday a friend and I played it day and night, and at the end was in a coma state... Those were the days
And we always started the character customization over and over to get the best 'start-up stats'.

I've played Oblivion, a little bit of Morrowind, and Skyrim.
I think Skyrim has been the best experience for me, but Daggerfall was the 'drug' back in the days. We always talked about what Daggerfall would be as an online game with co-op features.

Now I look forward to try the PS4 beta before I pick up the pre ordered Imperial edition in June, and hooking up with a couple of childhood friends I played table rpgs with

      Morrowind
True story about being an older Mom playing her first RPG. My son was living out of town and we were discussing a fantasy world he was trying to develop as a game. My suggestions and comments were all based on books so he told me to get out his Xbox and play Morrowind so we would be on the same page. I did and loved it.

He came home at Christmas and I was well along in the game. As he watched he asked me what difficulty I was on because I should be having trouble with Golden Saints. I said "huh?"; I had no idea there was a difficulty slider or that it was on faceroll easy. I went ahead and finished the main quest for the experience and then immediately began it again to finish it a second time on a more reasonable level though still not highest difficulty.

It took me two years into Skyrim before I was confident enough to face a Legendary Dragon on Master with Incinerate. I finished each game at least twice because the first time always left me feeling like I could do it better.

Absolutely amazing and years ahead of its time when it was released. Even today I still consider Daggerfall truly inspiring, and if we could have an updated version with "modern" graphics...

Daggerfall (and most of the "chapters" that followed) contains everything that is, sadly, missing from ESO, even if a "single player RPG". If only it could have been transformed into a MMO, if only...

I still keep an eye on DaggerXL ....just waiting. Hoping.

      Okay... I'm calm now. Really.

      Lol

      Keep calm...

I understand how you feel, so try to explain is that with the invention of the Dragon break can justify almost anything. A change in the timeline can justify evolutionary changes that in the original time line never happened.

They can justify the existence of things that should not exist or no they should be.

Basically they can build a parallel universe with several modifications and simply say it was the result of the modification of a chain of specific facts that only take place in this new timeline.

This is not the first game that uses such excuses to alter what was already written and try to reinvent things that happened otherwise.

For lovers of Lore is almost an insult, I know.

I spend the same with another game (well known in the industry of video games and has over 10 years of residence) where I follow the story from the beginning, acquired all his novels and skip reading them hours until they suddenly decided modify much of everything that was written in these ...

I took it as a sign of disrespect, a betrayal that so long as I am part of an incredible story and from that moment it was no longer the same.

But it seems that this is something that many resort and is almost impossible to avoid as consumer or user.

It only remains to try to see the positive side (if it has) and accept it.

      No.

It can be used to justify weird after-the-fact political changes - drastic losses of entire countries/rulerships and so on. But not the evolutionary processes of a world.

Some of the changes are simply better or different graphics or physics engines or what "could" be done (i.e. the relative emptiness of Morrowind's cities).

But not feathered cliff-racers. That just goes too far!

Oh I get that I can't do anything about it, and I get that it's better to let some things go.

But I still find snickering pleasure in the fact that ESO is "in the past" compared to Morrowind so - HA - all your fancy/innacurate changes DID NOT LAST.

Yes, I'm petty when I'm not fully caffeineated. Sorry about that. Sort of.

Picked up Oblivion in...2011 I think? Mostly on a whim. I think I mostly liked it since I hadn't really played an open-world RPG like it before. Naturally picked up Skyrim, and it's in my top ten for favourite games.

Pretty recently I've gone back and played Daggerfall and Morrowind as well; I'm really enjoying TES: II, and can't stand Morrowind for even a moment, given how poorly it's aged. Imo, anyway.
