Whats with the PVE lag?

Were your group mates experiencing massive lag?

What I mean is some abilities may sucking up all the resources and work just fine for the one executing it.

I am also wondering if Templar GCD's might be causing all the lag but that is just poking in the dark..

No. Everyone was quite happy with the dungeon run, and no one complained (except for being killed!). I did play a Templar healer and was doing a lot of spamming of the heal abilities, and never got a slowdown. It was actually a lot of fun!

Well you are one in a thousand that has posted anything like this here.

Could you help the rest of us out by stating things like...
    • What do you have your in-game graphics set to
    • Your location. (you do not have to be exact, but you may be close to the servers) Na or EU?
    • What level of your characters in Fungle Grotto you ran
    • maybe even your rig specs might help

Well, like many others trying to get a grip on this problem, I am doing tests on my graphics settings; in game and with Nvidia settings, on desk top.( mostly because, for me, there seems to be bottle neck in the communication between the servers and my rig .) My resolution is 5990 x 1200. With V-sinq on, I run 61 max, with V-sinq off, I have now up-to 100 Fps.

My latest configuration involves turning off V-sinq. It has produced a large increase in Fps and my abilities do seem to be responding much faster now.

It does affect my visual quality but, not a game breaker at this time.I have not experienced any tearing as of yet and the view when I pan around is a little "choppy" for lack of a better term, but like I said, it's tolerable.

My latency in-game is still spiking up but, so far it has not affected my abilities as much as it has in the past.

Hope this helps out someone out there.

The lag is not constant. I did a dolmen earlier with one other person and my attacks did hit about half the time, the rest of the time my attacks were not firing off. I think the other player doing the dolmen was having the same problem.

This has been happening quite often since TU started.

@ZOS_GinaBruno My husband and I have been playing since last July, with brand new gaming systems and 105/mps internet plan. Up until the last update we had an enjoyable experience with the game, minus a few small bugs, but other than that we planned on staying in ESO indefinitely. We both have multiple toons on DC and using the NA server and have been experiencing major lag since the update and the start of TU. The lag is so bad on every toon no matter what zone we are in and what time of the day it is. Although it does seem to be lighter early in the morning around 2-5 am EDT. And it is also very bad in dungeons, delves, pledges, and trials, for everyone in the group, not just us, to the point we all have abandoned the quest.

Today I have only been on for about 45 minutes and I have gotten two "ESO is not responding" messages causing my game to crash and I have to reload. This has happened in Belkarth outside the bank trying to walk inside.

As I said earlier in my post, my husband and I had planned to stay subscribed and even had planned on buying more crown points to get all the mounts and some costumes, but have been waiting to see if the lag problems get better. Honestly, the past few nights I have quit playing early, when I usually stay on until 12am or later, because of the lag and not being able to use abilities without a 5-10 sec delay, causing me to almost be killed, and spending out a lot of gold for repairs.

I'm afraid to say that if something is not done soon about this problem we will be taking our "$14.99 a month each (that's $270.00 we have paid so far), and finding another, more stable, game to play.

Were you using grand healing or the clap (healing ritual) or both?

I was using healing ritual. Where is grand healing? I checked my resto and restoring light abilities, and I don't see that ability. I used Remembrance a lot (ultimate) and I loved the new animations they did on that. The rest were combos of resto and restoring light abilities.
  • david.kinnaneb14_ESO
Isn't it about time for you, ZOS, to admit that you broke stuff and put forth the necessary effort to fix it instead of deflecting responsibility to the players? You've got some great artists working for you, no doubt there, but your coders could use some re-evaluation.

First ability on the restoration staff. Early conclusion but from what you are not saying, Grand Healing could be one of the causes. Especially the large groups balling-up as a defensive tactic in PvP.

Late this afternoon and early evening (EDT), Glenumbra was unplayable for me. Started a new DC character. Couldn't activate a quest item, Add-ons broke - FTC, which is old and very stable.

When I logged off and played another character in another zone, didn't have any of those problems.

Just updating this in hopes it helps people out there.

I've been on-line for over an hour now tonight and I have been able to play this game better than I have in a long time.

Disabling the V-sinq and lowering the particle density has made a large improvement for me. So far no freezes and my Templar abilities are the best they have been for a long, long time. There seems to be very little or no delay with them now.

I understand this is not a fix, more of a work around, but at least I can play again with a level of enjoyment.

Like I say, hope this helps someone out there.

As a side note, when using Way-shrines now , it's almost an immediate travel time.

For those of you running into lag outside of Cyrodiil, can you let us know exactly where you're seeing it? Is it a specific town, dungeon, etc.?

Im seeing a ton of "mob death lag". Mobs are dead but the ui shows 1 hp on them and they stay that way for about 2-4 seconds before finally falling over and becoming lootable. Ive experienced this everywhere on all my toons.

Not necessarily lag but my game froze/crashed three times today while in Shadowfen so there's that.

Chiming in. I have also experience hitching, stuttering, and freezing on a daily basis since the Tamriel Unlimited release. It got so bad (about 9:00 PM EST on Sunday) that I just gave up and turned the game off.

Lots of lag in major towns, especially Daggerfall (where I've mostly been on a new char). I know that this is the most expected place for it to occur, but that's all very bad news bears for anyone trying to get into the game. Also experienced bad lag in Belkarth on another char.

Hmm.. I doubt that i'm first, but..
I think i found some reasons for that LAG areas and NON-LAG areas.
    It's all about PHASING.
I'm an DC sorc, traveling through Dominion veteran questline now. Here is almost no people, no lag and all is beautiful and neat.
But when i'm coming to my homeland.... guess what? :o
    Correctly! Lag spikes!
And after all this terms, i doubt that it is a serverside problem. Cause there is alot of people at all places at the same time, but our CLIENT don't interact with them at veteran zones due to PHASING.
    Your thoughts?

For those of you running into lag outside of Cyrodiil, can you let us know exactly where you're seeing it? Is it a specific town, dungeon, etc.?

Here is the video of laggs in PvE.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NzpHfwSwBkE

    1. The Stonebreaker (2nd boss in SO, two of us were kicked from server for spam during this lag).
    2. The pack of 8 trolls. Last one before the Serpent (every time we were here, and it was for about 7-8 times already, we run into Cyrodiil-type-lag, where you can't cast Healing Springs, etc, and have to use instants).
    3. The Serpent Hard Mode. Cause of lag you can see that the boss is too long under the ground and the Nova fall down and just dissapeared. Wipe.
    4. The Serpent Hard Mode. Don't think it would be a kill despite 25% of boss HP if not a lag, but still sad when everyone got this freeze.
    5. The Serpent Hard Mode. Mega-Lag, and you can see, that since the boss was lagging too, the timer on his phases was still ticking. He makes one poison AOE, summons a Mantikora, makes a World Shaper and almost instantly without 40 sec you usually have and a second World Shaper in a phase makes another poison AOE.

Plz, fix this. We can see same picture almost every raid in Sanctum Ophidia. It makes a Hard Mode SO completition even harder.

Unfortunatly we can't spread out all of Sanctum Ophidia to prevent it, like it was said for Cyrodiil. :D

To be honest, it's not even about the game any more.

Games sooner (usually) or later suffer of bugs and lag. But the company behind them do whatever it takes to get their stuff sorted and ASAP. ZoS has got an outstanding record of utter mis-management of every single issue affecting this game.

People are losing trust on the company ability to even do basic, fundamental stuff like getting the game playable.

How is it possible that a company wasted half a year creating a fairly modest cash shop, while the whole foundation infrastructure has NEVER been stress tested before going B2P?

These are far much worse issues than fixing a game. They need to fix their upper management. NOW.

Zenimax did a wonderful job with gold spammers, they did a wonderful job against the bots. They did a wonderful job at balancing the classes for pvp and they did a wonderful job at unbalancing them again. They have come out in-game to help me with problems before which was very nice. I enjoyed my game play from launch through december.

They have done a bad job for the lag and the stuck in combat issue. These are the two most frustrating issues I dealt with and exploits but these are so hard to discuss that I won't go any further on the subject.

All in all, I have enjoyed the game more than I have not but if they could fix the two issues I mentioned oh and the Emperor swapping/buddy system(I've learned to ignore it somewhat) and scoring needs revamped if not already(I been out for 3 months). But yeah, the game has been worth it to me and would do it all over again if I had to...

I've had very little PvP and PvE lag of the type discussed here. Almost negligible. I am located in NA and run the game on a simple laptop. It has a capable graphics card but not a high end gaming one. I have my settings on Minimum. Gameplay is more important than looks for me. I have a very poor internet connection. (fastest download speed I get is 177 kbps.). I often have two others in the house either watching youtube or netflix while I play. I have TS up quite a bit. The most I suffer from is intermittent loading screens of doom and the occassional crash when sprinting in a high traffic area just as it starts raining. There are occasions where my Shooting Star drops about 15 seconds after casting, but it doesn't happen too often.

I know from my experience I feel it has something to do with the clients themselves. If it was server or zone-wide (being a mega server) I imagine everyone would immediately lag and crash and ZOS would see the server or zone pop drop dramatically and hot-fix the issue. I'm not saying that the server is definitely not the issue, but I'm leaning towards the client setup being the issue. If after you have reduced settings to minimum and ruled out certain skills being inherently bugged, then we can start a discussion about how the server is communicating with your client. (Not everyone lags out of game at the same time, so there has to be some rule that is being enforced)

I have been mostly in Vulkel Guard or Khenarthi's Roost with a low level new alt. I play in the middle of the weekdays when things are slow because I hate being run down by horses (and tigers and guars). Just out in the general environment I run into so much lag that I die from a stupid skeever because none of the controls work fast enough if ever. I would blame it on my minimal computer or my abysmal ISP but the truth is that none of that mattered until March 17.

I put in a bug report when I found myself in a dead world on Khenarthi's Roost. Not only would my controls not respond other than allowing me to walk around but there was nothing living anywhere except me. That was just strange.

@seanvwolf Have you been following this forum? If you will notice "groups" have all been lagging at the same time, and even videos have been posted to document this lag. As I said earlier I have a gaming system with an awesome internet connection, and I for one am not going to take my graphics down any lower than I have now or the game just won't be as enjoyable to me. I have an Nvidia card and I have taken the graphics down from Ultra to high but I will not take them down any lower. And as @Moonscythe and others have commented we were not having these problems until the 17th, so NO I don't think it is on the client side and I'm sure others will agree with me on this.

Personally, I've found that lag is everywhere in the solo instances, not any specific place or event.

Example: I notice it during combat using my staff when I zap an enemy down to 15 health and then he stands there motionless at 15 percent health for a minute and then dies. There have been times when I have stood there doing nothing waiting for enemy to fall over dead.

I never had lag issues in solo play prior to 1.6.
