It sure did work after launch for several months, quite well actually. Instant queues for non-DPS around the clock level 15 to VR3 for me during that period. On par with what we see in other MMO games. I had quit a couple months in so in not sure when it stopped working, but it sure is depressing to see so many veteran players now under the impression the feature never worked. The standing around the capital city using zone chat as an LFG method is distasteful, especially to players who want to LFG for dungeons whilst solo questing in non-capital city zones.I don't think it has ever worked. Not even in beta. Best to just form your own group and go.
I've had mixed experiences with the group finder.
As a veteran I sometimes get into a group almost instantaneously or at least after a couple of minutes, even as damage dealer, but sometime I don't get grouped up within 2 hours. -- I am sure I always have selected a role unless that turns of and on by itself sometimes.
On the other hand, I was never able to find a group with my non-veteran alts in the last few weeks. It was fine when the game started last year. Maybe this was due to few non-vets and has changed now with the influx of new players, I don't know.
At launch, grouping tool worked differently than now.
Back then, it made a group when two players that were searching for the same thing, were found. So, you had a group of two and the tool continued to search or wait for the missing two.
Now, it doesn't put the group together until it has found all four. And this is, imo, ZOS' biggest problem with this tool. I imagine the code for searching and pairing is very badly optimized and no-one wants to go even near it. Hence such silence on ZOS's part on a potential fix.
The code that searches for new and manages already found possible pairs, triples and full groups, is not very simple, but if you have no one that knows how to optimize it, it becomes impossible.

that brings in elitists behaver, which is already in the game, the group finder is not used because of elitist behaver and rage quitting, simple answer to it is to use a reward system, ie: you get a reward like in wow or ffxiv but not until u finish the dungeon and after say 20 dungeons done by group finder you get an elite gear not sellable or obtained by any or means
You mean more elitist than the person who asked me how much dps I can do after I said LFG in zone chat?
The group finder is not used because it doesn't work. I am fully behind your idea of rewarding its use like in ffxiv, though. But first it would have to actually be able to build groups.

Not true. I used to use it all the time after launch and it worked just fine.I don't think it has ever worked. Not even in beta. Best to just form your own group and go.
This is not a solution. I have better things to do than sit in a zone waiting for a group thank you. I should be able to quest in any zone and get a group when it matches me.Keepercraft wrote: »Zone chat is faster then LFG and chat have more option.
I couldn't disagree with you more. Not even if I tried. There's only 2 things I can add to this but I'm sure most agreeing that the LFG doesn't work won't like it.
- I've used the LFG many times, and yes I'm a healer, but it has worked almost everytime, I only remember not finding a group once or twice, but it was late so I wasn't surprised.
- Each time I found the LFG to take some time I've asked in zone chat for other members, even DPS, and I had no answers. So, again, no surprise the LFG couldn't find anybody, there were simply nobody looking for a group at the time.
But I also wish to say that the zone chat should be a good way to find groups. And I don't know where you find your elitist members because I've yet to find any in my searches (but I won't deny it may exist if YOU encountered any).
On the opposite, I've even add many players to my friend list after playing with them (EU megaservers by the way).
What I'd like is the same kind of system as in The Secret World. You enlist for the LFG, but the LFG doesn't create the group for you. The LFG simply show you every people that are listed to it for the dungeon you're looking for, as well as the role each one chose. And then a player as to take the decision at one point to group people in order to make the "damn" group.
We are in an MMO, something that should bring people together, playing, talking, and interacting with each other. The more you'll ease the grouping process, like every other MMOs are doing, the less people will talk to each other. IT IS THE DEATH OF THE COMMUNITY. And that is when you'll begin to see rage-quit becoming normal, and people looking at you like a weirdo because you dare to say "hello".
Because as some said : Some people will just want to log in, have a group, have their loot, and never have to talk to others. It's like playing solo, except you're not in a group with NPCs, you are in a group with PEOPLE.
My point is, if some don't want to interact with other people, play a solo game, don't come to an MMO and act like you're the only one there.
Also, join guilds, they're awesome to have a group in seconds.
And on Zenimax part, please do the same system as in The Secret World, get rid of this LFG that obviously creates problems, and try as hard as you can to make people interact with each other, that's how you create a great community for your game, which will help everyone have fun.

Last two time i was grouped with only 2 other people and it was faster to find a fourth in chat... If it is supposed to create a full group, then this is not working either.
They should also add a system similar to Blizzards new grouping tool in WoW: You can create a group in the categories questing, dungeons, raids and custom and then give it a title / description, select what roles and how many of them you are looking fore and you can even set a minimum level / item level. For me this works very well especially for more uncommon stuff like hunting for specific achievements etc.

Which is it?
I have confirmed with nearly 15 people this evening that they have been queued for hours for veteran dungeons and not getting matched with anyone. The dungeon finder used to work great in the couple months after launch when I played previously. What has happened?
We cannot be expected to stand around in a town's zone chat manually searching for players. Such tediousness hasn't been part of MMO games in 10 years.
