Is the dungeon finder broken YES or NO?!

Zeni has to fix it before console launch, because they're not going to start typing with their 5 button controller. So it's probably getting fixed soonish if it's broken.

I bet if ZOS added in a daily reward of 1 CP in the group finder it would be used.

The group finder hasnt worked for months. I used to use it all the time.

They might already have it working on console.

I thought that PC wasn't going to be playing with console players that it was separate anyway.

Is this a trick question? The LFG tool has never worked. Players have long since stopped using it in favor of the far more reliable zone chat.

At game release, I used it religiously to find groups for the non-vet dungeons when I reached that dungeon's level. I did select being a tank, and usually found a group between 1 - 10 minutes.

As stated before, the group finder was broken at ~1.4/1.5 and I have yet to try it in 1.6 live.

It's just more reliable atm to ask guildies or zone chat for people... It does seem like an issue that not enough people are using it though. I'll have to try it out sometime.

I just noticed that when I'm queued and I mouse over any of the three role icons (tank, healer, dps) it says "disabled" in red text. Incidentally, I've also let the tool run for many hours straight, queued as a tank, and have never once found a group for anything.

e: nevermind, I guess this just means you can't change while queued

It worked after launch. I used it quite often.

I have never used the Dungeon Finder to find a group but I have used to it get the last spot in my group and it finds people in like 5 minutes max. I used it last night about 4 or 5 times and didn't have issues. Again that was finding people for my group. Not trying to find myself a group.

Could it be that there really aren't enough people trying to get groups together like that?

Seems odd that such a simple system would be so broken. Although it is an MMO so things don't make sense all the time.

In my opinion still broken :(
After update 5 I tried a few times with healer too for daily dungeons, unfortunately without success.
If it is work, but nobody use it, simple the solution If u use it to finding group, u get 1 CP/day :). The LFG tool will overload on all day :)

Key word launch. It did work great at launch then one of the updates messed it up and been broke from that time on. Seems like forever now. But it will be fixed,

I've had it work for me but I always have it running in background. And I never try it with my high level characters.

Lately I log on with my VR2 Templar healer, grab the silver pledge, set up the tool and set it running while I do other things....questing mostly.

In the past five days it's delivered 4 groups, two of which were able to finish the silver pledge.

It is your Forrest Gump box of chocolates of course. One featured folks in green and blue gear who'd never seen a purple item. But we finished.

The failures were due to odd groups, such as three healers and a tank in one case. Couldn't retrait for damage myself because the other two were in light armor and would die quickly. But, as three healers and a tank, we could stay alive for absurdly long periods while the boss said bad things about us and also maintained near full health.

I've had a lot fun with these pick up groups actually.

Just finished one a few minutes ago where one poor fella was kicked from the group and none of us knew how that happened. The group lead didn't know....and didn't know how to reinvite him. Meanwhile the person kicked kept asking in /s "Why...WHY!??" as we talked the leader through the UI.

But we were together at the end.

In some ways it's more satisfying than doing a smooth AA run with very good players. They expect to succeed and think nothing of it when they do. Me, I'm not a great player and find those activities a bit too stressful for my taste.

But expect to dispense a lot of soul gems and, in some cases repair kits, buff food, potions and such if you use the LFG tool and want to make it through. Folks did that for me at first too.

Not saying it's a wonderful tool or anything. But it can work if you have a lot of patience....with the tool and often with the players it puts into a group with you.

At this point, I'd almost rather scrap the lfg tool altogether and use a global lfg chat and autoinvite addons. It's enormously frustrating trying to gather groups for vr dungeons.

I've come to like the almost certain delay after getting into a group for everyone to go dump their bags (the inventory system being... just not the best is a different topic).

There needs to be something though... Perhaps some incentive to use it daily/repeatedly is probably all that's needed (and i'm not sure if its how it works now.. but since the dungeons scale to the party leader you get matched with the right level people to make it rewarding for everyone).

Doesn't matter what role you have to wait when using it, but its worked enough times to be alright. It just needs that something extra.

From what i've seen so far of returning players, enormously is an understatement. The level of frustration is causing returning players to just give up immediately. As did I, but instead I decided to start a new character.

    Which is it?

I have confirmed with nearly 15 people this evening that they have been queued for hours for veteran dungeons and not getting matched with anyone. The dungeon finder used to work great in the couple months after launch when I played previously. What has happened?

We cannot be expected to stand around in a town's zone chat manually searching for players. Such tediousness hasn't been part of MMO games in 10 years.

In SWTOR I never had to use anything beyond its group finder.

In ESO I stopped getting groups after level 25. Hours and hours missing 1-2 guys, then one would join but another had to leave. Stagnant for hours.

In the LFG options, you can mark yourself as Healer, tank or dps

BUT you can also leave all three off and if I do that, I have never got a group.

Another example what a "masterpiece" this interface is... Form over Function for the sake of immersion... and bugs... *sigh* I think I will go check if there is already a book titled "Interface Design - A Lost Art"... or something...

    The simple answer is no.

Its not broken. but it don't work optimal that is for sure.
To many people don't use it as they think it don't worth using. Think they need to give ud more options in it and give people a little something for using it.

I've had mixed experiences with the group finder.

As a veteran I sometimes get into a group almost instantaneously or at least after a couple of minutes, even as damage dealer, but sometime I don't get grouped up within 2 hours. -- I am sure I always have selected a role unless that turns of and on by itself sometimes.

On the other hand, I was never able to find a group with my non-veteran alts in the last few weeks. It was fine when the game started last year. Maybe this was due to few non-vets and has changed now with the influx of new players, I don't know.

The LFG tool hasn't worked worth a crap ever since the patch that introduced dungeon scaling. Go back and dig up the patch notes if you like.

During that phase, zos made many changes to the LFG tool in order to "fix" it.

I would happily take back the old "broken" LFG tool in a heartbeat. It's not population, it's not for lack of use or what you que as. The fact is that it's currently FUBAR.

Zos should be ashamed that a year after launch, such a basic fundamental MMO feature is worthless.

I don't think it's broken. It's just that nobody uses it. It always grouped me when I tried it (the fact that I tag healer might have helped) but it is barely useful imo. Asking in zone chat is a better solution. I don't understand why they added it tbh.

It is really one of the feature less needed in a MMO game where you quickly find a guild and play with other people.

Nevertheless, they spent time doing this when other features are drastically missing or incomplete.

At launch, grouping tool worked differently than now.
Back then, it made a group when two players that were searching for the same thing, were found. So, you had a group of two and the tool continued to search or wait for the missing two.
Now, it doesn't put the group together until it has found all four. And this is, imo, ZOS' biggest problem with this tool. I imagine the code for searching and pairing is very badly optimized and no-one wants to go even near it. Hence such silence on ZOS's part on a potential fix.

The code that searches for new and manages already found possible pairs, triples and full groups, is not very simple, but if you have no one that knows how to optimize it, it becomes impossible.
