You see a shifty eyed Argonian who thumbs the edge of the blade by his side. He obviously doesn't trust you, and you shouldn't trust him.
I think this is a terrible idea. Why not add another option "Inspect player" This would allow you to view what armour and weapons they have equipped, The player can decide whether they would like to share their armour and weapons by enabling it within the settings menu.

I'd like to have and retain control about who can get my character's information. An anonymous inspection feature would violate my privacy.
You're welcome.

Hello fellow players,
My suggesting is when you want to interact with a player you bring up a menu which has all the options (Add friend, Report player etc.)
Why not add another option "Inspect player" This would allow you to view what armour and weapons they have equipped, The player can decide whether they would like to share their armour and weapons by enabling it within the settings menu.
I think this would make the game a teeny tiny bit more interesting and also allow us to view their armour.
Many thanks,
Jordon
IF inspect player is ever added to ESO it should be to see a text field that each player can set for themselves.
You select "Inspect Gidorick"
And since I am allowed to put whatever I want in that text field (within reason... standard community rules apply), you see:You see a shifty eyed Argonian who thumbs the edge of the blade by his side. He obviously doesn't trust you, and you shouldn't trust him.
If I wanted to I could put stats and whatnot in that area, but that's up to each individual player to decide what they want to divulge.

No. Then people will want Item Level checks then Title Checks. and then this game will be pointless to play.

Elitist players, aka, players who know how to do it and want a fast run with other players of equal experience.
These players will always find a way to identify who they want to invite and who they want to avoid, regardless of the implementation of /inspect.
It is therefore not a good reason to say no.
Inspect could allow you to look at a players gear and experiences or achievements in detail. Nice bragging rights. It could also easily contain an 'anon' flag to prevent anyone from actually checking the details of gear.
It is a nice idea and very workable with appropriate tags for worried people.

that being said those who do wish to remain anonymous will be kicked from groups because of it. after all if they had nothing to hide they would not wish to be anonymous.

They will be kicked anyway for missing the achievement or kicked anyway for having crap dps or kicked anyway for not knowing what to do.
More choices are better.

I disagree as this drives an elitist attitude vs working and playing or enjoying the game amongst others.
WoW suffers from this feature and it would kill the "play as you like" concept.
