Oh, this is not "holding out on us," I've seen an MMO that held back new content in the leadup to their F2P transition. Nothing came out for close to a year. Nothing.
If ZoS was wanting to screw us over, you can bet the Champion system and Justice system would be monetized somehow.
Look, I get your only previous experience with this kind of thing was TOR. So, when I say this again, please listen this time. TOR is the absolute worst end of the spectrum. That was a developer who was pissed with their non-customers and taking it out on their fans. ZoS is NOT Bioware. ZOS is (partially) a team of people who actually understand how to make MMOs, as opposed a subsidiary of a company that has genuine contempt for their customers.
You're not the only one that's worried. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. But, I'm also not about to start screaming, "the sky is falling," until we have more information.

I totally agree with you here. I remember some of the quotes coming out of bioware back then, and I had the impression that they thought we were all just too stupid to appreciate their amazing game. Even during development they responded t feedback with unforgivable arrogance.
To be homnest I have got the same vibe about zenimax at times. One quote above all comes to mind. It was some senior ZOS developer who said something like: we are making our game first and an elder scrolls game second.

No.
Pay gating every single little thing is awful. Oh you want to wear Purple gear? That'll be 10 bucks please. Oh now you want to wear Legendary? 15 bucks please.
That's an awful way to do business. Bioware gets away with it because it's Bioware.

Until we actually see this hit PTS, and we know, I'm more inclined to cite DCUO's model. Which is probably the best possible outcome (at least on the in game store). It has some non-cosmetic items (all of the store exclusive Legends Heroes), but it's also not abusive, and you actually do get enough... "station cash?" I forget what it's called. But, enough fake money to cover stuff you want, assuming you don't want everything, and are willing to be patient.

I really and genuinely hope you are right because that will keep me playing and subbing.
This is not necessarily true. A paid monthly sub includes 1500 Crowns per month, so depending on how much is available in the store, and how much it costs, you might be able to get it all without paying extra. I mean, probably not, but it's possible... In theory...Under the new system some new content (yes new mounts and costumes are content) will be in avalible to me unless I pay extra on top of my monthly sub.
Agree x 1000.
And they WILL implement it this way, because EVERY SINGLE company that has ever done this to their MMOs does it this way.
This is the reality that a lot of people on these forums do not seem to grasp.
They act as if ZoS was doing everyone a favour by dropping subscriptions and they think the content in the game will be cheaper now.
Yeah, that's UrQuan saying, "don't burn down the house," not, that they're doing us a favor with this.Point in case:This is not necessarily true. I am terribly sorry, but you are deluded if you think 1500 crowns will amount to much. I apologise, I don't mean to insult.

I would actually support that but I can't see it happening.
SWTOR is backed by bigger players than ZOS and even Disney has it's fingers in the lot.
Plus a lot of people absolutely hate SWTOR and don't want that model.

Yeah, I think that's mostly a straw man. I haven't seen anyone say, "this is great for us." What I have seen is varying levels of, "I'm worried, but I'll try to keep my hopes up, please don't crush all my dreams," to "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!"
Though, I've also seen a lot of smug schadenfreude... so, there's that too.

Hey, if the crowns turn out to be 15 bucks of free tokens a month, then you can say, "hey, they're doing us a favor." But, unless that happens, it's just people saying, "don't set a fire just yet."

It's sad.
This right here is the best response to highlight the mentality of many of these people. It's human nature to want other people to share your views or your opinions because it further validates that thing you believe in. It's also a staple-point around religious people who try to "spread the word" or gain followers.
That sense of "followership" to your opinion or cause is honestly a better feeling than anything to these people and although it's more subconscious than anything, it still exists.
"I don't like something, so I will make other people see what I see and think the way I think so I feel better about myself."
It's childish, pathetic and trite and most responsible, intelligent adults see through it.
*Sigh* here we go again...

1500 crowns are X bucks of free tokens a month. And the fire has already been lit, many of us are simply trying to stoke it before it becomes a bonfire and starts burning people. i.e. informing people and warning them before they decide to continue their subscription
starkerealm wrote: »
I don't even know what that means, I'm sorry.
EDIT: removed strong wording.
MornaBaine wrote: »Per the announcement, if I continue to sub I will "receive monthly in-game benefits and a monthly allotment of crowns to spend in the store." I played SWTOR. I tried it free for awhile but because SO MUCH CONTENT was locked behind the pay wall I pretty much HAD to sub or hurl my monitor out the widow. BUT once I HAD subbed I quickly realized that even with the "extra" cartel coins that were thrown my way there was ABSOLUTELY NO FREAKING WAY I could possibly afford all the things I wanted in the cash store and, OF COURSE, there was no way to earn those items in the game with in-game credits. Even worse, SWTOR would lock away a single item you wanted in a huge "box" full of other items that you had to buy...and many of those only gave you a CHANCE at getting the item you wanted, not a guarantee that you would get it once you handed them 20 bucks.
So not only do you get to pay a sub just to have the same game you used to but now you'll STILL have to pay a LOT more to the cash store to get the customization items that SHOULD have been free and a regular part of the game under the regular subscription model. I guarantee you that they are NOT going to give us a barber shop for which we can pay in-game gold to change your hairstyle available only to subscribers. No, they are going to charge you real additional money for every single new hairstyle they add. Social clothes for the Disguise slot? Same thing. You'll pay per outfit. The oft-mentioned Senche tiger mount? Oh yeah, it'll be in the cash shop. And it'll be AT LEAST 15 bucks just like the horse they have in there now. Probably more. Housing? And all the things to put in it? Prepare to take out a loan. The ability for vampires to hide their appearance? Paul Sage will personally ensure that it's at least 20 bucks just for me. Ability to completely change your appearance via a return to the character creation screen? Yep there will be an awesome wizard you can pay 20 bucks to for the privilege. Per character. Name change? Sure. Ten bucks please.
Right now the only thing that is even making me CONSIDER staying is my freaking guild. But they implement this the way SWTOR did (or Divines forbid, even worse) I'm out.
