ZOS is (partially) a team of people who actually understand how to make MMOs, as opposed a subsidiary of a company that has genuine contempt for their customers.

I totally agree with you here. I remember some of the quotes coming out of bioware back then, and I had the impression that they thought we were all just too stupid to appreciate their amazing game. Even during development they responded t feedback with unforgivable arrogance.
To be homnest I have got the same vibe about zenimax at times. One quote above all comes to mind. It was some senior ZOS developer who said something like: we are making our game first and an elder scrolls game second.

Let's hope they make some significant changes to the costume system. There have been more than enough threads about it over the months suggesting any number of improvements.
It really is a 'bare-bones' system right now, and if they're going to be introducing costumes as one of the primary money-earners in the Crown Store, now is the time for them to upgrade the system as a whole, turning it into something that will last and be robust for years to come.

Bioware gets away with it because it's Star Wars. And, in spite of all the damage George Lucas inflicted on the franchise with the prequels... and all the possible damage J.J. "Faster, and More Lens Flare" Abrams might do, it's still eff'in' Star Wars.
Kids still want Star Wars they can play with their friends. Aging fans still want some sign that their childhood hasn't been mauled by Disney's corporate agenda. It's Star Wars.
If TOR had been a Mass Effect themed MMO or a Dragon Age themed MMO, it would already be dead. But, Bioware gets away with it, because it's Star Wars, and dogs can't tell it's not bacon Disney hasn't decided they want to take over the games development field themselves, yet.
EDIT: also, yeah, Wraith is right. TOR is the most punitive and petulant free to play transition I've ever seen. It makes me want to throw up in my soul, but if you want to see a "fair" free to play transition, you're actually better off looking at Cryptic. ✭✭✭SWTOR has a lot of items in the store yes. But what kind of maniac want ALL the store has to offer. You gonna wear all 5000 dresses? You are just spoiled i guess. I still play SWTOR and i surely don't want to wear every costume that pops up or ride every mount (most of the are ugly anyway)
Plus they ARE obtainable thorugh ingame credits. 99% of them are tradable. Except of course character traits like white eyes. But mounts, adaptive clothes and armor, pets, even emotes and toys are tradeble and the AH is full of them.
If you have a sub to SWTOR you get access to eveything, monthly Cartel coins and fun. If people complain about content behind a paywall then just sub. I sub for TESO now, and when it goes b2p i will still sub. Nothing for me will change, except a shop i can buy stuff for free crowns i get for subbing and more people to play with. I know a few already who don't want to pay for an mmo but are coming to play TESO soon.

I am biding my time and seeing how this goes. I will continue to sub. If by doing so I have access to what I want WITHOUT having to pay MORE actual money above and beyond my sub then we're golden. But if, as I fear, it turns out that the "free" crowns are just enough to entice me to BUY "just a few more" I am done. So, as I've said, we'll see.

Until we actually see this hit PTS, and we know, I'm more inclined to cite DCUO's model. Which is probably the best possible outcome (at least on the in game store). It has some non-cosmetic items (all of the store exclusive Legends Heroes), but it's also not abusive, and you actually do get enough... "station cash?" I forget what it's called. Me too. I've been burned by enough bad transitions to be worried. I can "live in hope" until it hits PTS, then we'll know.1 -

In theory...Under the new system some new content (yes new mounts and costumes are content) will be in avalible to me unless I pay extra on top of my monthly sub.

SWTOR is backed by bigger players than ZOS and even Disney has it's fingers in the lot.

It's sad.
This right here is the best response to highlight the mentality of many of these people. It's human nature to want other people to share your views or your opinions because it further validates that thing you believe in. It's also a staple-point around religious people who try to "spread the word" or gain followers.

The internet is diverse enough that "generally" isn't really going to cut it. Just like some places will get really pissy when you carve someone else's post up like a Christmas turkey, and others consider that normal. Generally speaking, for clarity, just quote whatever you're agreeing with, or, you know, SAY you're agreeing with someone's post, rather than just, "I upvote ALL THE THINGS!"
Quick reminder, what you'd set up to that point was... "I agree with something really emphatically!" So, the post amounted to, "I agree with this thing someone said once a lot! And it happens all the time!"starkerealm wrote: »

Yeah, I think that's mostly a straw man. I haven't seen anyone say, "this is great for us." What I have seen is varying levels of, "I'm worried, but I'll try to keep my hopes up, please don't crush all my dreams," to "THE SKY IS FALLING!!!!!"
Though, I've also seen a lot of smug schadenfreude... so, there's that too.

I'm really not. My pretense on the boards is far too erratic. I hit five stars back in the late days of the beta or right after launch, and I've been on and off the board for months.
I don't pretend to have some inside information on how the game works, but I do have a background in statistical analysis, thanks to my degree in political science, which means, yes, I am specifically trained to look at situations and start unpacking them. Yes, I can look at numbers and tell you what they mean.
Also, I'm not the one throwing a tantrum right now. I'm saying, "hey, everyone, wait a minute and calm down until we know what's going on, because panicing right now will only wear us out."

This is not necessarily true. A paid monthly sub includes 1500 Crowns per month, so depending on how much is available in the store, and how much it costs, you might be able to get it all without paying extra. I mean, probably not, but it's possible... In theory...Under the new system some new content (yes new mounts and costumes are content) will be in avalible to me unless I pay extra on top of my monthly sub.

1500 crowns are X bucks of free tokens a month. And the fire has already been lit, many of us are simply trying to stoke it before it becomes a bonfire and starts burning people. i.e. informing people and warning them before they decide to continue their subscription
Exactly, we don't know what it actually amounts to. Once we have more information on store pricing, then we can talk about if we're getting screwed over with our pants on, or if it actually is a decent deal.

No, they are going to charge you real additional money for every single new hairstyle they add. Social clothes for the Disguise slot? Same thing. You'll pay per outfit. The oft-mentioned Senche tiger mount? Oh yeah, it'll be in the cash shop. And it'll be AT LEAST 15 bucks just like the horse they have in there now. Probably more. Housing? And all the things to put in it? Prepare to take out a loan. The ability for vampires to hide their appearance? Paul Sage will personally ensure that it's at least 20 bucks just for me. Ability to completely change your appearance via a return to the character creation screen? Yep there will be an awesome wizard you can pay 20 bucks to for the privilege. Per character. Name change? Sure. Ten bucks please.
Right now the only thing that is even making me CONSIDER staying is my freaking guild. But they implement this the way SWTOR did (or Divines forbid, even worse) I'm out.

Sure youll have to save up the Crown Points for some items. And not everything in the store is going to be expensive.
