Hey, folks. Thanks for all of your feedback and impressions of ESO six (or seven) months in! We love to see what you guys think we've improved on and where you think we have room to grow. That said, whether giving us tips or giving us praise (or both!), please be sure to keep your comments civil and respectful, and refrain from attacking your fellow forum posters.

You simply don't understand how Q&A works. Reporting a bug doesn't mean it'll magically get itself fixed... putting more people to fix a light-bulb won't get it done faster.

They're aware of the bugs and they'll eventually fix them once they found a solution. You'll somehow still be unsatisfied because they'll most likely fix a bug that you'll deem less important first... like they have a say at what gets fixed and what doesn't.

    Fixes happen as they come.

You like Elder Scrolls games? Guess what? Bethesda is notorious for "abandoning" games once they deem them playable enough after a few patches.

Elder Scrolls Online actually has the advantage of getting continuous support from Zenimax.

Then, where does this game shine at all?
It is clearly not PvE, cause PvE is so meaningless in this game. Leaves it with a bad PvP and a huge Grindfest up to VR14.
Looking at the game by arbitrary labels like "PvE" and "PvP" means you missed the point of where (and how) it shines.

"PvE is meaningless" ... why does it require to have meaning to be fun? It certainly helps to have a carrot on the stick but that should never be the driving force.

Each quest in the game are miniature stories that ties in really well with the overall story arc. ESO is probably the best MMO for doing that kind of thing. "Why am I doing this?" is a question that is easily answered if you bother to look around and talk to the NPCs. Have you bothered reading any of the parchments lying in the delves? Lore and story is EVERYWHERE. But that's besides the point.

Stop looking at the game from a "PvE" and "PvP" concept. Look at any other MMORPGs and then look at their combat mechanics and their moment to moment gameplay. How do you approach encounters? How does the melee play out? What about exploration? How does it alter your original path? You'll soon realize that there are few MMOs that comes close to doing what ESO is doing despite the bugs and the latency issues. Guildwars2 and WildStar share a lot of similarities with ESO in their combat but they're all executed differently.

That's where the GAME is. ESO is a fun game and the best part about it is that the wrapping is really well done.

Of course, you're most likely one of those who install add-ons to spot all the skyshards and locations... if that's the case, you kind of miss the point and I would understand, then, why you think that there isn't anything worth mentioning in ESO.

So if you're on here commenting, it's means you're paying the monthly fee, or that you still have game-time remaining. So clearly it's not so bad as all the doom-and-gloom people claim if they're still paying the subscription...

I think it will make a comeback. I played for a week or two at launch and decided to not play at the time. I can't really place a finger on why I was unhappy.

But I have just came back and really enjoying myself. Happy I gave it another chance.

I know a lot of people that are waiting for future patches and believe that playing before the justice system would almost be detrimental to the experience.

People looking forward to content updates is a really good sign for ESO. In contrast, I know a lot of folks who sound almost annoyed at the news of WoW's Warlords of Draenor... primarily because its yet another time-travel-but-not-really plot as Blizzard is looking at past Warcraft games because, in my eyes, they're running out of ideas.

If Zenimax Online keeps on focusing on what makes an Elder Scrolls game and is mindful of Lore, ESO is going to thrive. The Oblivion planes lends themselves really well for new environments and stories.

Also, people you see in-game is not a good indicator to how many people play the game due to how the mega-server is structured. A few PvP campaigns may seem a bit empty but that's because most people are over-populating on one or two campaigns for obvious (and understandable reasons).

    1. game companies are notorious for paying off reviewers.
    2. the super data subscription information is NOTofficial numbers and is highly questionable.
    3. eso has hundreds of game altering bugs that have not been fixed since launch. i.e. - memory leaks, desyncs, lag, crashes, inability to interact with environment, weapon swap not working, passive and active skills not working as intended. Animation inconsistencies. etc. Not to mention the exploits.
    4. Zos has consistently released updates packed full with bugs that were brought to their attention on the pts server but were never fixed.
    5. Zos Customer support is god awful dog (snip).
    6. Grouping is a joke.
    7. stamina builds are a joke.
    8. craglorn is awful.
    9. cyrodiil is broken.
    10. The game past lvl 50 is just a grindfest. (if I wanted to play another faction i would of rolled one.)

I'll stop at an even 10 because you should get the picture by now.

In the end however, whether your a fan boi or a hater (truth teller) Zos doesn't give a (snip) about you or me. Its a business. the goal of a business is to make money. You either fall under group A or group B. in other words, we are nothing but numbers to be added or subtracted. Zos has a business plan complete with deadlines, budgets, etc etc. and they mean to follow it wether we quit or not.

By now you should see that forums are merely a way to glorify the player and make them feel like they are being heard or make them think they actually have a hand in the creation process. You don't.

Do you honestly feel like you are being heard when you post in these forums?

Wouldn't it make sense to pay people to promote your game in their articles to help push sales for the upcoming holidays?

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of the positive posters on these forums are actually ZoS employees.

I was going to lol this based off the first sentence, but there is truth in here too... sadly that 1-10 list is mostly spot-on, in my opinion. :disappointed:

I disagree with the customer service point because, as someone who works in customer service, I know it's a hit-and-miss in any company. Some will want to help, some won't care, and everything in between.

Game has huge potential, but still bogged down in a lot of issues.

Daikatana had huge potential too but it took arrows to the most of it parts. Potential means nothing if it is not being realised. I was also thinking like you and gave the game a go for 6 months to evaluate but major issues are still out there. Cyrodiil, skill tree rollback, lagfest etc. etc.

I feel really sorry that the game has a great community, people helping with suggestions and even offering gear and such to the new beginners but the problems are too many to deal with in short term.

Inquisiton is out in 20 days, we will see what can ESO do against a strong competitior in the market.

As good as Dragon Age Inquisition can be, I don't believe it's even competing for the same audience as ESO.

I suppose for those who wanted a 4 player co-op Skyrim might enjoy it more than the MMO that ESO is.

@Neizir‌ ESO already improved alot. I played back in april then had to do a 2 months long pause (university exams) and when I came back in July I was amazed how much the game changed since I last played. It has been only 7 (almost) months and we already had 4 CONTENT updates, which is *** load, and much more small fixes and patches. IMO first 3 updates we more like improvements to add things that were missing and actually were supposed to be in game when it was released. But now, since update 4, ESO is actually making a comeback.
And ESO is an MMO, and these have 1 unique feature - to grow and expand over time.
But as an MMO, ESO is still in its childhood, still going through pains of growing, bug fixing and balancing, so I think it will take a year for ESO to become a "adult" MMO.

I just started 3 days ago and I can definitely say casual play is very entertaining so far. I definitely enjoy the start of this game more than I have others including GW2 for quite some time. I will say the only negative experience so far is the random pink/purple textures on NPC's and the audio for NPC's during quests or ambient audio sounds that get screwed up. If those get fixed then the immersion so far for casual is quite good. I hope that gets done soon. Looking forward to another day to quest and trade craft after work.

wildstar- the style and the "hardcore" tag put me off

some console games look interesting been playing destiny and borderlands the pre sequel when i go round to my mates. dragon age and the witcher look good but arent long term options.

in short there is nothing im going to swap for ESO for at least the next six months

I never understood all the negative boo hoo hoo's that were flying around. The game was not perfect and had some issues. However, none of the issues were game breaking, just annoying. And, for the most part, they got fixed.
I think it comes down to two issues:
    1) For some it may be their second or first MMO, and they didn't know what to expect. Maybe they played World of Warcraft or another game prior, but had come in once the game was established (and thus most of the major bugs were long since fixed). Cut to month one in a new MMO, and things are broken/not working as intended, and thus things seem far worse than they are.
    2) People wanted Elder Scrolls 6, and this is not what they got. Or thought they did.

As a person who's been with Elder Scrolls since Arena, even through Battlespire and Redguard, I can definitely say ESO is one of my favorites of the entire series. No, it's not moddable or customizable to some extent, but I feel a bit more invested in the world.

I just read this article on MMMORPG.com talking about the state of ESO 6 months on (Even though it's been 7 months since release, but close enough):
    mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/821/feature/9069/How-to-Rebound.html
It talks about ESO's total revenue figures since release (not including box sales) and I myself have also talked about the rough subscription numbers this equates to in this thread (1.2 Million, give or take about 100k.)
It also talks about what Zenimax is doing to improve ESO. They've been honest about the missteps and the mistakes they made pre and post-launch and are working to fix those issues.

However, it also talks about ESO rebounding, making a comeback.

In their article, they said this:

"The team was honest about having made some missteps, reading certain situations badly, and underestimating player wants and needs in others. The problem with MMORPGs is they don’t often get second reviews or in-depth looks, and while MMORPG.com does do this, the game will still have those critical reviews and scores that, in my opinion, don’t reflect the game as it stands now. While some games trim their update schedules, ESO keeps delivering on both new features, promised post-launch work (like the new facial animations currently on test server and included in the upcoming update), and improvements promised to the community after launch."

"The game is flourishing in spite of the initial issues. In numbers some will surely debate, SuperData Research released its 2015 MMO market report that includes revenue to date in 2014. The Elder Scrolls Online came in in 11th place with $111 million in estimated revenue in player spending this year. That doesn’t seem to include box sales, either. Sure, numbers came from Bethesda in any official way, but there are other ways you can tell the game has been doing well. Even though there is megaserver technology, the game is populated. People run around playing at all times of the day and night. Things feel alive in Tamriel. Like Destiny, a lot of people bought the game and people still play it, but unlike Destiny, there’s a lot to do solo in ESO, and a large world to explore and play in. Sure, Bungie plans to add to its game, but the rebound ZeniMax has seen comes from rolling up its sleeves and digging in."

After reading the whole thing, I absolutely agree with it all. Imo, ESO is making a big comeback. The population seems to be growing based on the influx of players in the starting zones, and the amount of posts, especially on Reddit, about players coming back and coming for the first time, bringing positive reviews. The console launch will only add to this rebound.

But what do you all think? Is ESO making a comeback?

From the moment I first played ESO in beta, I loved this game and realized the potential for greatness. What many young people and players do not understand is that a game like WOW was not built in a day. Its going on 9 long years for that game and ESO is in its infant stage; it has that potential. I started playing MMO's over 12 years ago DAOC, Guild Wars, WOW, Vanguard, Warhammer Online, Guild Wars 2, SWTOR, LOTR and the list goes on. I have played all of these for over a year and some up to 6 years; some until they closed the servers down ie vanguard and warhammer. I have been through countless Beta's and launches and seen some pretty bad game releases; ESO is far from the worst lol.

With that being said, something I have noticed for years, since wotlk days in WOW and it became prominent during GW2 launch. The MMO player base is changing from what it was when I got into gaming. I guess it could best correlate to a crackhead looking for their next fix after a month or two of gaming. Those that quit the game in the first few months, the "RAGE" type are exactly the crowd I am referring too. These types of players actually do more harm than good for any game and honestly I do not want my gaming experience clouded with more trolls and basement warriors. I could care less if some of those people came back.

As far as ESO making a comeback, I would say it never needed a comeback. Yes they lost players initially, but from the recent Meta numbers released ESO is doing extremely well compared to many MMO's 6 months after launch. At this point, ESO will only grow and I think the fair question to ask is; How much do you think ESO will grow? With the updates planned up to 2.0, which logically would be an expansion type of content, I think ESO will grow exponentially. Everyday new people join this community, if you go to the starter zones during prime time or on the weekends, the proof is the abundant of players. With the changes to Veteran levels in 1.5, I think this will help bring even more people back to the game new and old. Grinding to VR14 was not an issue for me due to my gaming experience, but to an average gamer it would seem to be a bit intense. What they talked about during QuakeCon and the Guild Summit, Champion system, Justice system, Thieves Guild/Dark brotherhood, Spell crafting and Imperial City PvP/PvE zone; will only bolster the numbers for ESO. These updates will carry the game through another 6 months and at that point, I feel ESO will be set.

On a final note, I think ZOS is doing a much better job listening to the community which will only add to their success, as long as they continue to do so. They are taking a step in a positive direction. Once PvP is addressed, should be 1.6 (it was supposed to be 1.5) and the next few updates, it will give a good idea as to the future of this game.

Sorry to call you out, but if you label the people quitting in the beginning as "RAGE" quitters then you're top of the fan boy pool. The reason those people quit was because the game was released in a terrible state. They didn't learn from previous MMO's which could of easily pointed out what not to do.

First, if they had actual servers where you could see server population this game would be considered DEAD. They're not dead because they hide those numbers behind a megaserver, but you can easily get a rough estimate of how many people are playing the game. Take PVP for example, you know exactly how many players are on a locked server and they only have 8 campaigns or so? Then go to any VR zones past the first town and it is completely empty. Try finding a quest group for any of the VR content past the first town. Okay, maybe people are not questing? Go to Craglorn and see how many people are questing in Craglorn? None.. Maybe they don't want to quest there, fine, see how many people are raiding or grinding in Craglorn. It is always the same people no matter what account you login or character you login it is only a handful of people playing.

PVP is just horrible. People who play PVP have been complaining since the first month that the game design of AOE abilities is complete trash. Zenimax takes FOREVER to make any adjustments to PVP and these adjustments needed to be made on the first month. Zenimax knows people who Home on a server with all scrolls then guest on another server and keep their buffs is completely *** yet they have still not fixed it. The game is already past 6 months and they still cannot fix simple no brainer issues.

I really hope they turn the game around. When they do I will honestly come back and play it again as I really loved the game and the Elder Scrolls series, but let's be honest.. If they didn't have the Elder Scrolls name behind it this game would of closed. Not fail or made enough money to continue like SWTOR, the game would of closed.

MAIN QUEST LINE BROKEN? Seriously? You had a year of beta testers who told you about these issues and they're still broken when the game went live. THE MAIN QUEST LINE.

Wow, another poster who complains endlessly about how horrible the game is, yet still seems to be here every month. [Yawn]

Best part; he isn't playing the game. He's still here to post old information, spread misinformation and raise the negativity on the forums, but he isn't playing the game.

Yea I called him out on everything he was whining about, but how dare I do that LOL! Moderator edited my post, yet left his alone. After having ignored MMOs for years, I specifically chose ESO as my first ever MMO experience because I'd thoroughly enjoyed all the previous Elder Scrolls games. I did this about 6 weeks ago, so I'm definitely new to the game (and the genre)- I've not reached Veteran levels, and I've not yet tried my hand at PvP. In some ways, the fact that this is my first MMO means I don't necessarily know enough to judge it's "worth", and in some ways it means I don't have any "baggage" either.
    -
I bought the game without really reading reviews, started downloading the updates/patches... and started reading reviews while I waited for the updates to complete. I rapidly became disheartened, and was convinced I'd wasted my money buying a rubbish game. By the time the game had updated and was ready to play, I was almost too put off by the reviews to bother. I convinced myself that I might as well play an hour or two since I've spent money and many hours patching the game.... and so it began.

What an awesome game! Yes, there are issues (and I've not even experienced the problems most people are talking about: PVP, Craglorn, Vet levels etc), but this is an amazingly fun game to play. Maybe my opinion will be different 6 months from now, but at this exact point in time I am delighted that all the reviews I read were completely wrong!

Apart from the, so far, compelling story line, I've begun to enjoy the group gameplay - doing Dolmens and Group Bosses, Delves and Group Dungeons (well, I've only done Spindleclutch actually) has been a lot more interesting than I expected it to be. I look forward to exploring the group dynamics more in the coming months, although the solo content is still my primary interest right now. I can actually see the point of MMOs... and am actively anticipating more of this kind of experience.

Really, I just intended to say that my experience of the game is far more positive than I expected after reading the reviews. But, I am currently completely enthralled by this game... it as exceeded my expectations and I find it hard not to get overly effusive. And, judging by the interactions I've has with other "noobs" like myself in the lower levels, I am not alone. I have no idea how many more experienced players have left the game, but there are plenty of newer players well on the way to becoming experienced players.... we are on the way, and we are having fun with this game :)

I can actually see the point of MMOs... and am actively anticipating more of this kind of experience.
The game is structured in such a way that it'll progressively ease you into multi-player so that, once you reach Craglorn (a zone designed for teams of 4 people), you'll be comfortable in forming groups.

Millage can and will vary but my experience in the end-game has been pretty smooth.

Hey @Gix! Nice to see you're still playing ESO!

Thought you were done with it, since you never *cough* ahem, upload *cough* anything

Sorry :) Just kidding, I know you're very busy :)

But I'm really glad you're still with us, hope to see you in game (but not in Cyrodiil since I'm PvPing with AD, for now :P)

    Best regards,

You like Elder Scrolls games? Guess what? Bethesda is notorious for "abandoning" games once they deem them playable enough after a few patches.

I've always found that one curious.

My theory - because I generally don't assume idiocy as the culprit despite its terrifying prevalence - is this is a deliberate PR strategy to encourage modding and the modding community.

It doesn't make much sense otherwise especially when community bug fix mods exist which theoretically the developer could either adopt wholesale or at least use to drastically speed up the process.

As a new player I can't speak to bug fixing speed but their CS are, if not always able to immediately fix a problem, polite, professional and helpful. That's such a breath of fresh air after the last few games I played where my experience with CS has ranged from comical to criminal (literally). I had to threaten legal action to get a bugged character fixed after waiting almost a year.

@leeux I'm shopping for a harddrive that won't die on me... seems like I've been buying a bad brand lately. I hope you DON'T see me in Cyrodiil because that would mean that I'm not playing my NB right :P

I understand the issues and that people left. But with that said, within the next 3-4 months, by patch 1.6, this will be a majorly different game than it was when it released.

The Justice, Champion, Spell Crafting, and overall class systems will have been re-done in major ways. Don't get me wrong, 1.5 looks great, but 1.6 looks like where the rubber is really going to meet the road. Dead abilities and worthless passives will be dragged out back and shot. Another VR Dungeon will be likely and by the everything will scale to the group leader.

There's no doubt that ZOS has stuck to their timeline and has been both aggressive in releasing content and conservative in tweaking class imbalances.

So it's going to be interesting to watch and see if the ES IP and the further progression towards being more of an ES game than a MMO with the ES IP plastered onto it will in fact attract people who played previous ES games.
