im on the NA server ( i would assume? i live in the US)

and im having this same issue. ive had the game for about a week and it ran great until this update. after the update i get this very slight stutter when questing about. but in towns and dungeons it becomes very noticeable bouts of choppiness. So i began turning down my settings and the problem continued to persist even with settings on low. where before i ran on High/ultra no problems.

I have an i7 unlocked, Geforce 560 TI, 8GB of ram, gaming Mobo, (older GPU i know, but it is the one the game recommends).

It seems to be some type of latency issue, so then i began troubleshooting my internet connection and it seems to be working perfectly as well.

I hope this gets looked into because it has made my experience very frustrating and i have been a big advocate for ESO after my purchase. now i feel silly.

Pretty frustrated myself. Game was lagging horribly after patch, combat responsiveness is taking 1 second or more sometimes to register some commands like bolt escape, weapon swap, power overload toggle and shields. Damage attacks seem to always work flawlessly

My FPS is always 60 or above and this feels more like network latency or server latency more than anything. I ran a speed test several times and I'm always 21ms or lower with 22Mbs down and 2Mbs up. Pings to google and my dns are always 41 MS or lower.

The game is currently unplayable for me. This is just totally absurd.

Ok, thanks everyone. We're going to dig into this now.

Specifically for myself on a top-tier self-built gaming system, even with particle settings sliders BOTH on the far left (minimum settings), the Dragonknight Standard ability when being dropped and for its duration while dealing damage to enemies is more than halving my typical frame rate in combat (going from 65-70+ to 25-30 typically). Once the standard expires or the mobs die and it is no longer firing its effects, my framerate immediately returns back to "normal" (60+).

I'm having the same issues as most other here on a well built PC, used to run Ultra setting except Hell Ra since, now it stutters like a beast in 4 man content even on medium blah setting. I'm on the U.S. mega server and would love to be able to play back on my Ultra setting.

Ok guys, we're still looking at this issue, but in the meantime could you try the following and let us know if this helps at all:
    1. Close the patcher.
    2. Disable hardware acceleration in your web browsers.
    3. Update your video drivers.
    4. Disable add-ons.

The game is running smoother. I did a bit of a "test" and found that I had the same FPS whether I turned the water reflections on or off. I'm still hovering around that 22-25 FPS mark in large battles, but it's much smoother. Haven't experienced any choppiness.

NA server here. I played after patching two days ago from 8 eastern time to midnight, no lag. Yesterday I hop on at the same time, and everything is laggy. It's playable, but there is a noticeable 500ms-1second lag between activating skills, weapon swapping, seeing that a monster is attacking you. Happened in both PVE and PVP.

    NA server, no add-ons.

Lags and stutters while PVE Glenumbra (vet zone), Malabal Tor and Bangkorai (non-vet zones). At these zones while I am riding the horse, sometimes a loading screen appears when entering what seems to be a new area (no, not necessarily a city with gates). I'm afraid it may be unplayable at Cyrodill, so it's been off-limits for me since the patch and the hotfix.

Ever since the 1.4 patch, i get massive lag and stuttering in both PvE and PvP.

There's a stutter that completely locks my movement every other second and there is a general lag in responsiveness to any of my inputs.

Before the patch, i would get a steady 60 fps pretty much anywhere. Now it mostly between 15 and 30, if i'm lucky.

    Something ain't right!
    sad.gif

I've had this lag for much longer than this last patch. It's exactly as you say, sometimes movement stutters and the time I hit an ability button until execution has a lag, sometimes half a second, occasionally it can be several seconds which is nuts.

Get ready for the "it's your ISP fault" brigade that invariably pops up with these threads though. This is the only MMO that lags like this for me, and an 8 hour session with a senior cable tech who replaced all my house wiring, replaced my connection to the street, replaced my modem and router, and tested everything during peak times showed everything on their end was normal.

this is pretty frustrating. i have Geforce 340.52 drivers. what do you guys have? maybe a driver roll back might fix it?? but to me it really seems like some sort of latency issue because it seems to get worse when im near other players.

its still present when im not but its hardly noticeable unless im trying to perform an action when it stutters.

can we get an update from ZoS here? is it something you have found on your end too? or could it simply be something within our individual systems?
  • Eve_Knight
This is a severe problem for me, too. Let me help by clearing up what is NOT the cause.

    1. This is not a video issue. At all. I'm maintaining a lovely frame rate. So it's not hardware acceleration, it's not a video driver, it's not anything video related. This is NET lag, not vid lag.

    2. I closed the patcher. It did not help.

    3. I've analyzed my net traffic with various utilities and have zero loss and minimal latency to other resources. So it's not my ISP and not my personal network.

    4. This leaves routing and the game servers. If you give me an address for the game server to pathping, I'll give you those stats. But right now it very much feels like the game server.

The actual symptom is just sporadic extreme lag and position desync. So I'll go to pick up a couple trash weapons from a rack and then look at them still sitting there for a good three seconds before they finally disappear from the rack and appear in my bag. Both at once, in the last case, as if the commands were queued. And then I tried to run to the clothing table in Elden Root, made it halfway there, and then snapped back to where I was a few seconds ago.

    NA server, SSD also.

Not having lag, but having that Server - Client command processing limbo stuff...

Where your character keeps doing the last thing it was doing and not responding to keypresses.

    This results in
    • Running off cliffs
    • Running into mobs (unable to fight/defend)
    • Running away from Quest voiceover
    • Generally useless command limbo...

Use to have this issue primarily with my DC character. Noticed it on my AD last night. Not sure if that part has any relevance - no high traffic or FX going on, either.

I would not think an SSD would cause this issue by performing too well. Mainly installed to eliminate load time and responsiveness.

No system should count on the latency of a piece of hardware to decide when/what to do next. It could compensate timing, one way or the other, to adjust for it, but should not rely on the slowness of anything to assume it has processing time.

had this problem for about month once it was fixed i made this thread to help others

i missed the part in this thread where you fixed it? also this seems a little more extreme than what im experiencing.

what i envsion going on is something like.. my toon is slowly lagging behind and then it SNAPS back every 3-4 seconds... but the distinguishing feature of the issue is coming in contact with other players makes it worse.

if im by myself its ALMOST unnoticeable. just a very very slight clip every few seconds and if i try and perform an action when that clip happens it will lag a second or two. this really doesnt bother me not a big deal.

but when im in a party almost every group of mobs i will have a lag spike of a few seconds which is unfortunately a very big deal.

Okay, I did a bit of collaborative research. While I was having bad performance, a friend was simultaneously having good performance. We analyzed our traffic to the ESO client with netstat and noted that we were connected to different addresses (presumably different load balancing servers). I then relogged, got a different server, and the problem is gone!

    BAD server: 198.20.200.25
    GOOD server: 198.20.200.162

Hope this helps. Please flog the .25 server.

Update: I see I change servers when I change areas, too. In this case, I entered Mzulft and ended up on the .156 server. It's not as bad as .25, but is still inexcusably poor.

Update: Relogged. Now I have .157...we'll see how it goes. Also bad. *rolls dice again*...

Got .157 again. Still problematic. Relogging yet again...

I keep getting .157. Maybe if I restart the whole client rather than going to character select.

Got .25 this time. Probably still bad...yep, still bad.

.25 again. I'm finishing this quest and switching to Diablo. *sigh*

Friend's good servers (to which he's somehow simultaneously connected whereas I only get a single one) are .162, .38, .26, and .35.

Now that I've left Mzulft, I seem to be connected to both .25 and .35. Seems okay so far.

Went into Cragwallow at 20:14 Eastern. Now I have .31 and .25. And lag is back.

Switched to Cyrodiil. .25 and .36 now ... and Cyrodiil went well.

Went from Cyrodiil to Wayrest at 21:36. I now have .161 and .25.

Ok, thanks everyone. We're going to dig into this now.

Excellent. I've been getting crazy stutter spikes myself all over. I noticed it right after the recent patch. I've a good computer that was running everything on Ultra before and even when playing with the video settings I'm getting this unexplained stuttering or locking up. Sometimes I'm stuck blocking for a few seconds, sometimes I can't open a door or mount for seconds. I really notice it when I use my streak because the effect will go off and then I'll wait a second and finally my character will streak. I also notice it a lot with the lightning armor ability on my sorc. I noticed it a ton with my DK whenever he weapon swaps or when he uses AOE abilities like fire breath or his root ability. It's making dungeon runs insanely taxing and over all things are just really frustrating. I stopped playing tonight after an hour because it's so annoying :'(

This is good testing, there are obviously infrastructure issues with some of the servers, this also explains why Craglorn seems quite fluid to me but when ever I'm playing in some low level areas with my alts, I get latency problems and animation lag.

If it isn't done yet, and if the server analyzing tools aren't showing anything in particular, a good idea would be to send the server information data to the development team when /bug is used and ask people to use the /bug function when encountering lag etc (or just clear and simple implement a special "/lag" command that automates this process (with a 1 minute/30s Cooldown to avoid DDOS) and could help gather massive amounts of data for the guys trying to fix the issue. This would help pinpointing the servers that are having performance issues or find out similarities between people encountering lag issues in PVE.

On further study it seems to be a desync or rubber banding, not actual lag.

I'm experiencing stuttering, lag, random teleportations to spots my character occupied 3 seconds prior, and I got booted from the server for "spamming" while the only thing that I was doing was trying to crouch.

I am on the NA server and this all started after the hot fix. I have tried all of the suggestions above and then some... nothing has proven to solve the issues. I definitely don't have a high end gaming rig, but I do have a SSD.
