[BUG] - Massive lag and stuttering since 1.4 patch ...

    Seems like the game doesn't like SSDs after the patch. I actually reloaded mine on an HD because the game kept growing so fast I wasn't going to be able to ever use it for anything else.

    I don't know how it would be possible that a change in 1.4 could cause problems for SSD users, but I have the stutter and do also keep ESO on an SSD. I suppose if a change was made where the game could no longer handle receiving data as fast as an SSD is able to provide it?

    I'll try moving the game to a regular hard drive when I get home. It would be interesting to hear back from the others who are having the stuttering about whether or not they use an SSD.

    I'm noticing stuttering too, just split second interrupts as I'm moving. Shame as ESO used to be very smooth (at least in PVE). Now it feels like my old MMO, LOTRO, which suffered with stuttering bad.

    EU server, SSD user too if that's relevant.

    Strange. I, too, have the same problem on my high end gaming rig, with the game installed to an SSD. Doesn't matter what I change in the graphics settings. However, on my weak laptop with a slow HDD, the stuttering does not occur. Same network connection, same account, same zones, tested within minutes of each other.

    Could be a coincidence, but there is a pattern here. How an SSD could degrade performance is completely beyond me, but logic may not be entirely applicable to the programming for this game.

    NA server, SSD also.

    Not having lag, but having that Server - Client command processing limbo stuff...

    Where your character keeps doing the last thing it was doing and not responding to keypresses.

    This results in
    • Running off cliffs
    • Running into mobs (unable to fight/defend)
    • Running away from Quest voiceover
    • Generally useless command limbo...

    Use to have this issue primarily with my DC character. Noticed it on my AD last night. Not sure if that part has any relevance - no high traffic or FX going on, either.

    I would not think an SSD would cause this issue by performing too well. Mainly installed to eliminate load time and responsiveness.

    No system should count on the latency of a piece of hardware to decide when/what to do next. It could compensate timing, one way or the other, to adjust for it, but should not rely on the slowness of anything to assume it has processing time.
    Just because you don't like the way something is doesn't necessarily make it wrong...

    Earn it.

    And here I was thinking it was just me. I notice it most in the big cities, not as much in the open world, nor the solo instances and PvP. (I was with low pop on the latter though.)

    My FPS in the big cities tend to be in the mid 40s right now, dropping into the 30s or even high 20s when I get the stutter effect.

    Saying what should not cause problems is a logic argument. On the face of it, logic tends to be wrong when applied to the convoluted and unruly pile of code that is ESO. Logic is of course applicable, deep down, but it is a complex enough system for it to appear random to anyone but the developers.

    In fact, I think it appears random to quite a few developers as well...

    Wow. Either SSDs are very popular, this stuttering only hits high end users that are likely to have SSDs, or there is an anecdotal link between SSD and stuttering.

    For me, the performance improved in general but I did get some odd fps drops occasionally when I entered a different area in a zone etc.but I did a defragmentation while sleeping so hopefully it is fixed. Have you tried doing that? Patches fragment the game and harddrive a lot.

    I have performance issues of the fps dropping drastically to the point is unplayable.

    There is a difference between blaming and finding similarities in the people that have issues. For me reloading it on a HD fixed the problem, maybe reloading it on my SSD would have fixed it also. I know all the suggested fixes didn't work and once it hit a normal HD it was fine.

    Came back to see if there was any news here and wow, seems like the common theme is SSD. Yes, that would include me as well. Right along with the others who have high end rigs and started having stuttering issues no matter the settings after 1.4 (NA server).

    Something interesting I noticed in my ESO video settings is that the resolution box goes blank after playing. Or maybe I never noticed that before. (Example, go to video setting in game and set it to 1920x1080, play for a bit and go back to settings, resolution is blank 0.o).

    But there are people with the same issue without SSD. More inclined to think its graphics driver/hardware compatibility with new visual effects myself. Hence the new sliders.

    I tried moving ESO from an SSD to a normal hard drive and am still having the stutters, no difference for me. They aren't game breaking or anything, they are just noticable and annoying.

    One of our guildies is having this issue as well. (We play on NA) The problem has been in PvE (don't even know if he has tested pvp yet). Walking around his FPS is ok, even better than before, but once battle starts his frames drop to single digits. This has been since the patch, after several attempts to reboot, repair, relog.

    I know he plays on a laptop, it's a new mac, but he plays on the PC partition. He also has the settings pretty low - I know the particles and all the newest stuff added is also as low as possible for him. We were wondering if it could be an issue effecting lower end computers or computers with built in graphic chips or something, but haven't seen it widespread enough to find out more in our little guild.

    yeah the issue is most common for me in dragonstar arena and 12 man trials. tried running Hel Ra last night and could barely heal. Had like a 3-4 second delay on everything. Nothing on my pc or network has changed at all. Dragonstar, the lag was constant

    Nvidia card here and same issues as above. Playable for me but constant lag moments. More like little 'hitches' throughout my gameplay. Never had this before (had the 1.3 Cyrodiil lag but not this type).

    I've been getting a good amount of lag tonight, just found this thread when checking to see if others were having the issue. Not a framerate issue, but lag. Usually it happens when I'm looting--fighting will go smoothly, but my 'g''r' keys I hit to loot then take all, the 'r' registers belatedly. Also I rubberbanded once--was running around Shornhelm, then suddenly warped back 2-3 buildings behind where I was.

    Nvidia 760 here. My drivers are two versions older (so its not the newer drivers causing it).

    Id call the "stutter" more of a hitching effect. My framerate stays 60 99% of the time, except for the fraction of a second that it hitches, and even then, it only drops to about 40 during those times.

    The visual effect of it however, is a very noticeable break in framerate, similar to if you were performing at 10 FPS.

    It might be worth noting that I just started playing again today, and hadnt loaded up the game for about 7 weeks. There were quite a few large patches I downloaded first. Not sure if this makes any difference.

    Either way, this stutter/hitching wasnt there before. My graphic settings are still the same, with the exception of the new particle options, which are set to the lowest. NA megaserver. Not using an SSD. Very little HDD activity, so i really dont think the stutter is drive read/write related.

    Ever since the 1.4 patch, i get massive lag and stuttering in both PvE and PvP.

    There's a stutter that completely locks my movement every other second and there is a general lag in responsiveness to any of my inputs.

    Before the patch, i would get a steady 60 fps pretty much anywhere. Now it mostly between 15 and 30, if i'm lucky.

    Something ain't right!

    Lag does not affect your FPS.

    Shadows=low
    Lighting=low
    Turn bloom=off
    Occlusion=off

    Usersetting.txt
    If you still having problems try this thread but take care to reverse the settings as those will increase your chop.
