My own name wasn't my choice, my ESO character's name was. I'm sorry if I'm shallow, but I don't hold a high opinion of people who want to be named after feces. Toilet humor doesn't amuse me. Like the poster above said, it has nothing to do with gaming competence. If I met a group of people in real life and one of them immediately started cracking jokes about defecation, I'd single him out as the one to avoid too. Maybe I'd be missing out, but first impressions and all that. *shrug*Venereous44 wrote: »How would you feel to be discriminated against just because of your name?
No, stupid character names don't wreck my game, but they do preclude my having any truck whatsoever with whoever is driving that toon around (and, by proxy, anyone they may be hanging with).
Over my years of gaming, I've come to realize that a player character with an idiotic, blatantly misspelled ('Aaraggorn' or 'Leggolass,' for example - Tolkien is surely spinning in his grave), or all lowercase name is just the same as having a great big, flashing neon sign over their head that reads, "Avoid Me!"

I trhink you are doing the involved player a favor avoiding them, tbh.

If I were Tolkien I would be rather pleased that this many years later my characters still brought so much inspiration to people they were willing to accept even a mis-spelling just to carry the name into a whole new universe

ZOMG, someone named Poopstain O'Fartbags is on an entirely different level than someone with a name like Raystlin Majere.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a firm believer in getting the correct spelling or not using it at all, but it doesn't require them to be a disgusting or at the very least infantile individual.
Also, those names don't make me physically ill. Everytime I kill Poopjuice I get a little nauseous.
smeeprocketnub19_ESO wrote: »oh right, it's my issue. Because you didn't just personally insult me.
The reason I am offended is because you called the psychological health of those of us with lore unfriendly names or who use existing lore names into question. Stop acting like that isn't anything but offensive.
I'm so tired of elitist RP'rs pushing their snobbery on the rest of us.
smeeprocketnub19_ESO wrote: »Look, maybe I am mildly immature, but I don't feel that most of us are in the same ballpark as people who name their characters after feces.
It's disgusting. It makes me somewhat queasy.
Just, ew. Stop it. Stop it at once.

There are different reasons for avoiding people. Those with the most repulsive names ('Poopjuice' is a good example) impress me as being attention *** - they are to be avoided so as not to reward them with the attention they seek but (clearly, in my view) do not deserve.
(Getting back to reasons) There are also the unimaginative, the uninspired, the arrogant, the immature, and the list goes on ... character names can reveal a lot about the people behind the toon they created.
And @smeeprocketnub19_ESO: you might be onto something - feel free to avoid me, by any and all means.
Who said anything about competent gamers? "Competent gamer" is not synonymous with "gamer who I will enjoy playing with." The 2 groups will surely overlap, but they aren't the same thing.Venereous44 wrote: »But seriously... (with a grain of salt), you don't think you can find competent gamers with silly names? I don't generally avoid or /ignore people for minor reasons. My ignore list would fill up way too fast, and there is a limit on that (not sure about on forums, I've never tried.)
I'm not grouping with butt sack on the sole grounds that the name makes me ill.

Oh I don't /ignore people. I've been playing ESO (on the NA magaserver) for a going on three months now and I haven't /ignored a single person yet.

tbh, about 80% of my ignores are from /zone in cyrodiil. That will make you start using the ignore feature real quick. That is my exception to the rule. If you don't start ignoring people, the chat becomes incredibly toxic.
I honestly think I see more stupid players names then not in this game. It is sad to see, this is such a good rp game and then you see someone come along with the name Mr. Peepeepants and it just ruins the game. The only fix to this i think would be having to choose pre generated names without choice. I would be for it.
