Considering that RPGS (you know, the part that was originally part of MMORPG?) were originally created by and for adults, I'd say it's you who has a problem, primarily lack of imagination. MMOs are nothing more than a way to continue to play Barbie/GI Joe/Action Man without the dolls littering up the house. EVERYBODY who plays these games is a kid at heart, some of us kids just like to additionally use our brains for part of the fun as we do so.

THE difference is...i know in playing a game i dnt actually try to pretend its real and act it out...

i was pointing out that the OP saying stupid names ruins the game for him is ironic because coming across RPers some people find weird and creepy but don't go moaning about it on a forum.

Only bothers me when I have to see someone's joke name displayed every two seconds in large type across my screen when they are picking up a scroll and dropping it and picking it up again in Cyrodiil. Over and over. I guess he had BBQ sauce on his hands or something.

I do share this sentiment. I have seen vulgar names, misspelled variations of very foul words and extremely stupid names. I just ignore them, they ruin my immersion and when I see someone with one of those names getting handed or calling for help or making trade offers, I just ignore them. I save my time for people who display higher intelligence.

Hurts them none and makes me feel better.

In my opinion someone with a sense of humour who is in touch with their inner child more often displays higher intelligence than stuffy straight-faces. But that's just my subjective view that is so general it's almost useless in any given, individual scenario. So I tackle each case on merit.

Mr Peepeepants may, or may not, be vaguely close to what you imagine them to be. And remember that people approach video games with differing levels of gravity. Relax that sphincter.

I don't really notice names all that much. When I do see a stupid name it's more like I simply /facepalm and move on (or sometimes laugh, depends on what kind of silly the name is) than go all stressed and get my day ruined or anything.

One must first define what is a stupid name, what is a funny name and what is an inappropriate name...

If the name includes one of the 7 words that are not allowed on TV, (Look it up, George Carlin listed them), a variant of them or a new version, they should be reported... beyond that, if it ruins your game, perhaps you should be playing a single player game, because as long as anyone else can log in to the same game at the same time, someone will have a stupid, funny, inappropriate or "Well Known" name (Like Legolas, Gandalf or Conan)

Truthfully, stupid and funny names are only funny or stupid if you choose to find them funny or stupid... a name you find stupid, others may find funny and still more will not even notice... Personally, I don't much care beyond the inappropriate names.

I role play a bit in the Game, just two days ago I killed a Troll in a veteran area opened my mail since something came in was reading and the Troll spawned back in and started smashing me good, another Khajiit came along and helped me kill it, I would have lived but it the Khajiit helped me kill the troll much faster and I whispered to her, "Thank you fellow Khajiit.." small RP stuff like that I think is cool..

Who gets to define which names are stupid and which are not? Personally I found all of the bot names stupid, but they just made it easier to report them.

Some names are clever, some are from other games where the user got comfortable with a particular name, some are misspellings of common names because the common spelling has already been taken or cannot be used.

I have alts with varying degrees of names, from something simple, to descriptive ones, to silly.

As someone else also said, and personally for me, 'stupid' names are the ones that show a complete lack of imagination.

I am more impressed when someone takes time to create a unique name, whether it is silly or stupid. Those running around with Ragnock, Thane, King, Prince, or whatever else may have already been used within ES lore makes me think they have inferiority complexes, or at least a weird need to define who they are by their "hero worship" of fictitious characters.

Personally I don't really care what they call themselves as long as they were not the he one responsible for getting the group wiped 10 times on the same boss that shouldn't be a hard fight.

I like players and guilds with lore names. Brings back memories. Especially the guilds with vampire house names. I want western Skyrim zone open so a guild called Volkihar can post up in Castle Volkihar, haha. hopefully stage 4 vampire becomes kill on sight as well because ESO is so lore breaking at the moment because of it.

IMHO, as long as the names aren`t offensive generally, I really do not care what the names are, some of them make me laugh, others make me /facepalm but with a smile, as we are all players who have paid for the game and continue to pay for subscriptions, and people can play how they want, I might necessarily not agree with some peoples names or choice of armour/dye, but I would and have done vociferously defend their right to do so as customers of the game most of us all like/love or w/e, and not to do that, you then fall into the elitist culture which this game is developing sadly, where people are subjected to how they are expected to behave in everything game related and are treated badly if they fail to do so, seen it happen many times, and really gets on my nerves tbh.

On a more lighthearted note, I have seen some fantastic names, and one in particular always makes me laugh whenever I see the guy/lass, "Stares-At-Guar", hehehe, epic imo:}

As others have said, generally in most cases, you will never see the person again, there is people in the game I do not like, for varying reasons, but I get on with it, as its a game world, and just like the real world, there is going to be a full spectrum of things in there that is not to everyone`s tastes.

Don't really care that much what others name their characters. But I must say if I see someone with a really stupid name asking for help at a Dolmen, I don't feel like helping them. So it's not really wrecking the game, but it's more like wrecking the game for them.

I wouldn't want a limited range of names to choose from. If someone wants to have a stupid name, who cares.

As others have said they are only really hurting themselves because who is going to take the time to get to know them or help them if they have a stupid name. Just suggests an immature person, so let them at it.

I do see some dumb names running around but it doesn't really bother me.

I got nothing here. Doesn't Bother me. They mean nothing to me so I forget about them as fast as I might notice them, which I pretty much don't.

I suppose if someone is a role player they might get twisted over this when they have to engage them but meh....moving on.

If anyone has a problem with Wenxue, Rosiebelle, Azizom, Skybright, Nommie, Luckee or Hodorf then say now and I will explain the very good reasons each of them has the name they have.

Only names that bother me are the ones that are crossing the line between silly and offensive. I saw a male orc named something that reffered to the female genetalia a month or so ago and I thought that was a bit much. Silly names are good for a laugh. I like names and all the thought (daft or otherwise) that goes into them. Every name has a story of some sort - even if that story is Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones.

I wanted to roll a female Khajiit and call her "*** Galore". Apparently this was too much for the delicate sensibilities of Zenimax and the name showed as not allowed. Given the rampant double entendre in the game I find this rather ironic. Also "*** Galore" was used for the name of a character in a Bond movie. It's a good job I did not use "Alotta Fagina", the name for a character in an Austin Powers movie.

Anyway, the best name I have seen to date is "Farts When Nervous"

(Mental) kids will be kids. Stupidity of other people only annoys me in dungeons/PvP where it influences my actual enjoyment of the game.

Given the lack of nameplates I rarely see any other character's name so no, it doesn't affect me at all, if someone has such a stupid name as you quote and I get to see it then it's simply a warning to avoid playing with them, so to that extent it's a Good Thing.
