I saw the update 4 video this morning...and I dread having to tell my wife about it.

This is an interesting position to be in, as I am fortunate enough to be married to a woman that likes to play the occasional game - but this one has been a good bit different. It would be difficult to keep her attention in past MMOs, but she's loved this one. Loved the combat and questing...but had to stop playing because..well, Craglorn.

I saw a couple of months ago that the content in the game was lacking. I dealt with it as best I could because I wanted to love the game so hard. I sit eagerly to hear any bit of news that comes out about future updates - whether it is a road ahead post or seeing the contents of a new patch. But consistently over the last two months, I get excited about a small thing then they seem to crush it. The Justice System! YES! Improved VR content! YES! Then this morning I see a video for update 4 - I clicked on that link so fast that I would have made this guy proud. And then it was 2 minutes of a sinking, heart breaking disappointment. Again.

So, I'll tell me wife tonight at dinner that ESO is coming up with a content update...to add to Craglorn.

"Cool, and update!" She'll say.
"Are they bringing the justice or champion system?"
"No." I'll say.
"Okay, well what about the VR content improvement? Are they adding new delves to the areas to give us a bit more to poke around in?"
"No."
"...so it's just Craglorn. We can't even quest there because there's never a group."
"I know." - I'll say as I realize Im fortunate to even be HAVING this discussion with a my woman. Just thank God she's not a PVPer. I couldn't deal with the defeat she'd have on her face.
"Okay..well, maybe in the next one they'll give us something cool to do."

And this is exactly the convo I will have. It sucks. I love that she wants to enjoy the game, but she feels just like I do in this. We keep on waiting for more to do...every month that goes by, just to find another disappointing group-pve content update.

I'm not knocking the work they have done, but I'm kinda exhausted with the constant promises given (even before launch - horse racing? Thieves Guild?) and getting no update on it. Quakecon rolls around, they throw out Justice System, VR improvement, Champion system and start talking about big changes in the updates coming soon! Then plaster UPDATE 4 - WATCH NOW! on the main page with absolutely no mention of any of that. I would have bet a paycheck one of those things would have been mentioned in that video - the Craglorn 2 announcement was about as expected as a having an alien carrying a birthday cake (6 months early) tap me on the shoulder right now.

I mean, I want to say thanks for the work you guys do put in...but....

Ugh.

Uhm as I understood it. There will be new content in form of UPPER Craglorn. That means a whole new Map and the Dragonstar arena? And I partially feel your pain. But so far my GF is the more avid player than I am. :D We both have fun apart and together. :)

Craglorn 2 was kind of a sarcastic reference to UPPER Craglorn.

Didn't they say that things like Justice system and Champion was coming in updates 5 and later. Being they add more every 6 weeks they aren't going to make every update as big as the Craglorn one. Most MMO's don't even add anything for 3-6 months so yeah every update is not going to be amazing. Also this update has Dragonstar and Upper Craglorn wich is the last of Craglorn before they work on Murkmire.

I figured they'd add an "upper Craglorn" because the Craglorn achievements were always lower Craglorn this, lower Craglorn that. I completely forgot about it until the update 4 announcement, since Wrothgar and Murkmire were brought up. I was expecting more veteran dungeons instead of Craglorn part II.

I feel like the Quakecon presentation contents were teasers or still only in the "concept" stage, almost like people were specifically brainstorming for ideas to be presented at Quakecon.

Totally agree on the consistency of updates. Thats why Im not entirely just bashing them. They do well with that. It's just...at VR12, there's nothing to do. Gathering a group on the same quest you are on in Craglorn is about as common as a naked leprechaun riding a unicorn made of gold.

Or..at least, a little more common than that. But close.

Dragonstar Arena looks pretty interesting. Four player survival events for both regular and VR players?

    Sounds good.

Yes they are adding to Craglorn... but hopefully they are making it more accessible too.

Looking for new stuff to do? How about rolling another character and starting fresh in another alliance? Have you mastered all of the crafting? Have you tried joining new guilds and meeting new people to explore content with? Your post brought a smile to my face because you do have a dilemma that many of us would probably envy: a life-long partner that loves ESO as much as you do. The trick I think is to use your imagination to find new ways of enjoying the game. Maybe take up fishing, and have a contest with your wife to see who can come up with the best catches?

I'm always puzzled by the players who race through content (no criticism; just a personal opinion) and then feel like they've exhausted the game. I've been playing since early release and have got 5 characters none of which have reached level 40 yet. I still feel a sense of joy when I'm playing the game. All of the things you long for will be coming, but I believe that these additions and changes take time, and that's a good thing because you hope they're putting in the care and attention that these things need to be really good.

Thanks for the post. It made my heart feel a little lighter to read it! :)

I guess I am baffled at how ya'll managed to burn through all three faction areas...but I am a slow an steady player. You, yes you, need to find a way to enjoy the game for the content that is there. More will be added over time, but not instantly and it will be better for the time and effort that is put into said development.

Try a different class. Try a different play style. Step away from the game and resub when you see content you want get added. If you otherwise like the solo game content, that seems to be the type of options available to you. And there is nothing wrong with that. But from MMO standpoint or even a PC RP game you will always get to a stopping point while developers have time to create more wonderful content.

I, as an example, love Dragon Age...but I'm not going to complain that I have to wait till October for DA3; instead I find something to do with my time that I enjoy. Me. I choose to play ESO. I will likely but ESO down for a bit for that game, and I will likely return for the additional content after.

    That make sense?

I think they are wanting endgame to be PVP but being Elder Scrolls most people are PVE solo players. Most MMO's release a new dungeon or trial and your supposed to just keep running the same ones until the next update. I think they are still releasing content for people who are used to that. But as more zones open and they really figure out what they want the game to be I think we are going to get more sandbox elements and more things to do that don't require just trials. It's like FF14 where they have you able to run all classes on one character but only give enough 1-50 content to level 1 class. I think they are still getting their footing and trying to figure out if they want to be themepark, sandbox or a mix. Just my opinion.

I would like naked Leprechauns riding a gold unicorn to be put into the game... that would be awesome.

These are great ideas! Thank you - though, I used to suffer greatly from altoholism and prefer to stick with just one fellow, but I'm sure I can find something there. And the fact you enjoyed the read means a lot - it's exactly what I was going for. Not an "I h8 ESO OMG MOAR UPDATEZ OR IM SUING" post - just a little comic relief while venting a little.

I agree with you on some points, OP. I'd love for them to add more solo-oriented content, but I'm also okay with waiting for awhile as long as the content does eventually get delivered. I figure the reason why we're still waiting for justice system, thieves guild, more solo zones, etc, is because they simply aren't finished yet. I wouldn't want them to rush it out and then have it be incomplete or extremely buggy, since that would take most of the enjoyment out of that content.

I also wish they would adjust Craglorn to be more two-person friendly. Or, at the very least, make it so that people don't have to be on the same quest stage in order to group together, as this mechanic is currently making grouping in Craglorn for quests nearly impossible. As a completionist it drives me bonkers that I can't just go into Craglorn and do the regular quests there. I understand Craglorn is supposed to be group-focused content, and for the dungeons and trials I totally agree with that, but for the regular quests... come on, either make them doable solo or in groups of two, or let people join the group even if they already did the quest or are on a different stage. I'm sure there's numerous people who would be willing to group up and help people complete the quests, but they CAN'T because they already did it.

That being said, OP, I think it's awesome that you and your wife have a game you can enjoy playing together. I myself am a female gamer, and my husband is a gamer as well, but we can't play ESO together yet because his computer isn't good enough to handle this game. ;) We used to play Guild Wars together but both of us got bored with that game.

There's been some good suggestions in this thread already. Perhaps you and she could make some new characters to replay through the factions. I find that going through each faction with low level characters is a different experience than going through them at Vet levels. Yes, the quests are the same, but since you'll actually be amongst the other people who started in that faction instead of other Vet level people from your original alliance, it's almost an entirely different environment. At least that may tide you over until they do release more PvE solo/small group content.. which hopefully won't be all that far into the future.

You won't really get far in any MMO avoiding PvP, dungeons, and raids.

If you do enjoy group content, have you completed all of the veteran dungeons? All of the Undaunted achievements?

I, as an example, love Dragon Age...but I'm not going to complain that I have to wait till October for DA3
I'm sorry to have to tell you this, Andre...this is the worst part of the job.

DA3 was pushed back to November.

I have tissues if you need some.
I am crawling through content, and I have way WAY too many unplayed games in my Steam GoG and Origin libraries.

    ***grabs tissue***

But I'll try to hold it together.

I'd make a suggestion, but my comment will probably be moderated. So I'll just say, keep your chins up for upcoming content!! :grinning:

I'm not thrilled with the video either, but is there anything saying that what is in the video is all that there is in the next update?

Either way, I hope for some other small stuff, some tweaks or whatever, but I don't expect every patch to have something for me in it.

Sounds better than the conversations I have with my wife about ESO:

    Wife: "How's your game?"
Me: "In laymen's terms? Or do you want me to explain exactly why the game is bad?"
Wife: "Neither. Why don't you just get a new one?"
Me: "Well it's like watching a really bad movie on purpose just to heckle it."
    Wife: "That's stupid..."
Me: "Humans are notorious for stupidity, and I happen to be one."

My life summed up in the words of one of my favorite authors:
"He was a dreamer, a thinker, a speculative philosopher...
or, as his wife would have it, an idiot."

    Me: ok fine sorry

Me: So you don't want to be my healer in Elder Scrolls Online?

Me: (Getting to Play ESO all night because I'm not allowed in the bedroom)

i kinda agree with the OP here leave the trials and vet dungeons to groups and leave the open world content for solo play or small groups to complete. All craglorn is currently is grind large groups running the same bosses over and over again for hours because they are sick and bored of questing in vet content. ZOS created this problem by forcing players to go through 3 campaigns to reach max vet rank at the time and are very very slow in fixing this issue. They could easily make this a smaller group area and not force group players and just lower the vet xp by half or something for leveling through the vet zones which would go a very long way for most i think and actually make the game feel much less grindy. Content should not alienate population by forced grouping to further a story. You would think they could at least take a page from blizzard for this one though i hate evening mentioning them.

November's my birthday! DA3 is looking good, but I never finished 1 and I heard 2 was a dog. And . . . (to stick to forum rules and protocol) ESO reigns supreme!! o:)

I stopped reading at the bold. Are you trying to be offensive or just ignorant of the fact that almost half the gaming audience is female?

I should have written -my- woman. I havent been fortunate to date/be in a relationship with a female that likes to game. No offense meant.

I understood what you meant. Some people have knee jerk reactions to certain thing and some even go out of their way to be offended.
