Instead of a "dislike" button, we should have one called "Golf Clap."

If people are going to say ridiculous things, why not give people the mechanics to let them know that what they've said is ridiculous. This ironic use of the LOL button is peevish and juvenile.

There is a mechanic for that, you quote them and then tell them. :s

If some are pushing the LOL for a Disagree, they failed to see that LOL is a positive in most cases. Then again who cares...

Surely this would work better than dislike or lol.
@kimboh‌ there did used to be a like/dislike system about a year ago in the beta forums. (I think I still have the 25 likes badge.) If you got too many dislikes it hid your comment.

The disagree button has been tried twice. It's not coming back

There is no reason for a disagree button. Its just open to abuse from trolls anyway. I use the lol button when I find a comment funny. That is what the lol button is for. OK, I often don't quote and say I find something funny, but that does not mean I am using the lol button to disagree, I am using the lol button to lol, at something. Anyone using it as a un-official disagree button need to get a life, stop being a dif, and hopefully be banned IMO. [like a week to learn em]

The same could be said for Insightful, Agree, and Awesome, yet here we are. Once you're on board with the whole "say what you think about that post with one click" paradigm, there's little justification for only keeping positive feedback and denying the negative.

Disagree was removed because during beta someone targeted another forum user by disagreeing with every single post they made. They even went so far as to go search through the user's posting history on their profile to disagree all their old posts too. The victim was upset over it so ZOS decided it was being used as a form of griefing and removed it. For a while we didn't have any buttons at all. And then ZOS finally decided to add the positive ones back in.

There used to be a spam button as well but, as you guessed, it was abused shortly after the disagree button was removed.

If ZOS ever decides LOL is being abused, don't be surprised if it gets removed as well.

Sure, the dislike button lead to a bit of griefing and the like, but someone can only dislike each of your comments once. If you somehow got 30 dislikes on a comment, you weren't being griefed: You were being a turd.

    No.

If you disagree with someone, explain yourself. If you don't care enough to explain yourself or if you don't have a decent argument, then clearly there's no need for anyone to know about your disagreement.

I disagree because we have 4 ways to agree with a click, but no way to disagree with a click.

Honest feedback helps you even if all of it isn't positive. Plus you shouldn't be afraid to stand alone when others disagree with you.

Since the button was removed because of the trolling, it seems changing button mechanics would be better than removing it. Maybe an independent thinker badge that adds to your forum score, or something similar.

In todays sheltered society of "everyones a winner" and everyone gets a trophy...we cant risk hurting the fragile emotions of our players

as such we have added instead of a dislike button, which would cause most of our adult players to get upset and cry...a "I have a different viewpoint but really enjoyed reading this post and value you as a positive member of our gaming community" button.

    There...

    Or..

Just make a blank button with nothing on it, we can use to vote on posts and threads we hate.

or man up zeni and make a "poster deserves a slow death for this post" button.

Notice that in order to disagree with me, you had to actually provide a counter-argument.

If I just agree with something you say, there's no need for me to waste board space with "+1" or "I agree" or "^^^". If I agree, I can just click on agree. But if I disagree, then that means I need to make an argument against the post. Otherwise, what good does it do to see that disagreement? It simply shows that I'm too lazy to post an argument or that I don't have one.

No, it would show that you disagree, just like clicking the agree button shows that you agree.

This is exactly why it's a bad idea. It has nothing to do with people being too fragile to handle a bad review. It has nothing to do with everyone needing to feel like a winner. It has everything to do with a malicious or vindictive individual using it as a tool to harass someone.

True, but when you are telling someone positivce there is no need to explain, do you really need someone telling you why you are awesome.

Mind you the whole click on a button thing is pretty irrelevant, it's what you actually say that counts. So I could quite easily live without them at all.

Aha, you have self esteem issues. But even if some morons would abuse a disagree button I dont see how that could impact on anything really. Wouldnt in fact the esteem get a bigger punch from getting "No you are so wrong with what you say that its silly" from people that want to be bullies then from a little button? I think so anyway.

Disagree (and that's what it could be termed) should add points just as much as anything else. If everybody is always agreeing with you, you're probably doing something wrong, or are voicing worthless ideas. And if you're somehow upset that somebody disagrees with you. Grow thicker skin.

That said, many people did suggest that if you're going to disagree, you should actually give a thorough argument for your disagreement. Well, I'll disagree... though in this case I'll give an argument. What if it's a simple matter of opinion? Person A wants a gun skill line. Person B doesn't. Sometimes a simple disagree is all that's really needed.

No, I don't have self esteem issues, but nice try.

As for people saying things like that, you forget the Mods, they will remove anything too strong, and if someone just says "No you are so wrong with what you say that its silly", then they will get ripped to shreds by others. I've seen it happen, if someone tries to mock without reason, most other posters will respond with a grow up post.

Someone is always going to disagree with someone about something. That's just how people are and there's nothing wrong with that.

The problem is people get away with being a lot nastier on the internet than they would in real life. People will just excuse their poor behavior by saying "Oh that guy needs to grow a thicker skin." But if they behaved that way at their job, chances are the results would be very different.

The internet is full of strangers you'll never see in your entire life. When you get tired of dealing with them, you can close your browser. That is why people don't take accountability for their actions.
