If people are going to say ridiculous things, why not give people the mechanics to let them know that what they've said is ridiculous. This ironic use of the LOL button is peevish and juvenile.
It doesn't have to be "dislike." It could be "disagree." How is that different than many of the poll threads we see? I would at like to see a "Disagree" option to the choices.
@kimboh there did used to be a like/dislike system about a year ago in the beta forums. (I think I still have the 25 likes badge.) If you got too many dislikes it hid your comment. This list

Shows badges for 'likes' and 'up votes '
Did there used to be an up/down vote system?
Surely this would work better than dislike or lol.

There is a mechanic for that, you quote them and then tell them.
Disagree was removed because during beta someone targeted another forum user by disagreeing with every single post they made. They even went so far as to go search through the user's posting history on their profile to disagree all their old posts too. The victim was upset over it so ZOS decided it was being used as a form of griefing and removed it. For a while we didn't have any buttons at all. And then ZOS finally decided to add the positive ones back in.
There used to be a spam button as well but, as you guessed, it was abused shortly after the disagree button was removed.
If ZOS ever decides LOL is being abused, don't be surprised if it gets removed as well.

No.
If you disagree with someone, explain yourself. If you don't care enough to explain yourself or if you don't have a decent argument, then clearly there's no need for anyone to know about your disagreement.

I disagree because we have 4 ways to agree with a click, but no way to disagree with a click.
Honest feedback helps you even if all of it isn't positive. Plus you shouldn't be afraid to stand alone when others disagree with you.
Since the button was removed because of the trolling, it seems changing button mechanics would be better than removing it. Maybe an independent thinker badge that adds to your forum score, or something similar.

Notice that in order to disagree with me, you had to actually provide a counter-argument.
If I just agree with something you say, there's no need for me to waste board space with "+1" or "I agree" or "^^^". If I agree, I can just click on agree. But if I disagree, then that means I need to make an argument against the post. Otherwise, what good does it do to see that disagreement? It simply shows that I'm too lazy to post an argument or that I don't have one.
We used to have one.nicholaspingasb16_ESO wrote: »Just add a dislike button

The same could be said for Insightful, Agree, and Awesome, yet here we are. Once you're on board with the whole "say what you think about that post with one click" paradigm, there's little justification for only keeping positive feedback and denying the negative.
I explained earlier why that isn't the case, go look for it, I'm tired of repeating why that arguement isn't validTo many people with sore toes in this forums. If people cant take when people diagree with them they shouldnt be posting stuff in the first place.
Because they just troll, and drag down people's esteem, if they said why then people could see they are trolls and ignore, or see where they are coming from and argue back.If people want to be lazy and only provide agree & disagree why not let them?
Nobody ever needs to say why they find me awesome, or why they agree with me, but I would like a reason why they disagree. I might even change my mind, it has happened numerous times.its equally dumb to have the agree, awesome & insightful(especially this one) to use without people having to explain to why they agree?

All they had to do was make it where dislike didn't cause you to lose points or show up on your profile or something. Instead they just took it out

Aha, you have self esteem issues. But even if some morons would abuse a disagree button I dont see how that could impact on anything really. Wouldnt in fact the esteem get a bigger punch from getting "No you are so wrong with what you say that its silly" from people that want to be bullies then from a little button? I think so anyway.
