Ah, more symptoms of the everyone's a winner entitlement society rearing its head. No, you really don't need a virtual dog nor do you deserve one for simply playing the game. It is is a promotion for a complete vanity item. Get over it people.

Many players 'play' mmos these days, not to actually play the game per se, but to show off in some form or another their own superiority/worth through the 'leetness' of their character/s.

It's become a judgmental/shallow social forum of sorts. It's less about community and more about competition. It's very sad.

    OMG so much so THIS.

I was organizing for a world boss in chat yesterday, and we had three people there waiting on a fourth. I was /say talking to everyone, and explained the 4th was just around the corner and would join us shortly, but Mr. Fappy Mc. Selfish just rushes in and starts wailing away, spamming his ultimate, just going to town with the "look at me, I'm so heroic!"

So, the rest of us stood there and watched him die. Serves him right! XD

And the game market as a whole is marketing to this behavior, and as such, should be reprimanded for doing so. The drug dealer did no wrong in this case, I guess.

Nothing is wrong and nothing has changed.

Now the Internet forums and social media have finally given customers a voice. Voices and opinions that are unfiltered.

Today you're seeing what was hidden behind filters and marketing campaigns.

Nothing's is wrong but perhaps the reality of people is just as scary to you as it was to companies who fight to silence the voices and opinions of others.

    Oh please.

I'd love to see the forums for Sonic the Hedgehog:

    "OMG, nerf Caterkillers!"
"Why are Steam users getting a Tails vanity pet?!"
"6 hours to get all the emeralds, and now I die on the final boss?! I want a refund!"

See, back in the day, we didn't whine about these things. We actually enjoyed playing games.

    So very terrifying and true.

Its stupid. Its the same thing as achievements. It's 100% clear to me. Dumb people are ruining the genre. Devs waste their time on the dumbest stuff. Pets, achievements and different mounts. I think these are for idiots so that they can run into someone who doesn't have them and say, look what I have. Complete waste of time for complete morons.

I agree with you, but I don't think it's all the doing of just dumb players. Game developers have created this caustic problem in order to push sales and it's sad. Gone are the days of playing 100% of a game.

Entitlement based on wrong education by their parents. Not saying its the sole fault of them, but todays kids grow up with having access to everything.

They don't need to save their allowance for a video game, music CD or DVD - they can just DL it for free in the web. They don't learn that they can not have everything, either the parents throw money at them or they find other ways to get what they want.

So if at one day there is something they cant have, they start a rebellion and complain.

I mostly agree, with most of you, anyway. I have to say, though, I've been playing video games as pretty much my number one past time since games came on cassettes. Other than text-based adventure games, I think I have actually completed three games, ever. Final Fantasy X, Dragon Age: Origins and Dragon Age 2. I don't think playing 100% of a game is a back in the day thing, necessarily. I think it generally is a matter of how compelling the elements of said game happen to be.
Personally, I don't get how exclusive pets, especially useless ones, are compelling to anyone. It's code in a database. It isn't like it's truly rare, it's virtually infinitely duplicable. I'll never cease to be amazed, and a bit depressed, by how willing people are to be manipulated by FArtS...

Code is code. In my personal opinion, and to provide a little background on my views, I hate the way gaming in general is going with putting effort into pre order exclusives, skins, and other such predatory practices in the name of profit. There are games out there still where a sub means 100% access to everything, but it's a dying breed.

OP you started a thread simply to cause drama? Okay, you don't get why it's important to some people. The fact is, it is. That's it. You don't have to comment on every topic and you definitely do not have a start a thread insulting the things that people like just because "you don't get it". Move along troll.

I have been reading all of these posts and I still don't get why anybody is all upset over not getting a stinking promotional vanity pet. Honestly, it's got nothing about loyalty to customers. It's about trying to get new customers. Just because you want everything doesn't mean you need it or deserve it. Most of the reasons given for being upset are really specious justifications for "I want it and I want it now."

So much so that the game itself can be bug riddled, lack content, and nothing more than the basic excuse to call it an mmorpg. I don't give 2 *** about the pet. I would however like to not be ass *** by ZOS every time something changes on the game... I bought this game for $140 (retail Imp Ed) and only now is it coming to steam and I gotta fork out $30 more (ATM) just to have it in my steam library... what a bunch of ***ts

If you don't care about the pet, why don't you just add it to Steam as a non steam game? You still get overlay, if that's what you want

It is? that's what I want is it? The thing I already use... not the linked achievements or time clock or all the other BS that is a part of the overlay... it's just the overlay itself... bravo, just wow... such incite...

^ This is what is wrong with gamers today.

They aren't capable of appreciating an achievement in a video game unless they get some kind of silly badge they can show off to their friends.

^This is what is wrong with gamers today. They cannot comprehend that someone might like a game for a different reason than them. "It's not important to me so it's not important."

So which one of us is the pot and which is the kettle?

All this fuss, virtual war and anger for a wolf pet!! A WOLF PET!?!?!? I probably don't understand all of this because ESO is my 1st MMO and i'm not really an elitist. But still imo the 2014 gamer is exagerating.

Not every young breed is spoiled, but those who are sadly make a lot of noise and I don't see how this will ever stop.

Where you see an entitlement issue, I see false walls being put up in favor of turning a profit and the disregard of players wanting access to 100% of content with their subscription.

Not sure if you were beta testing or if you bought the game for 30 or 80 bucks.

Fact is, if you did one of the things mentioned above - you got a vanity pet / item added to your game. These things the people who buy on steam wont have.

In MMOs it is a standard procedure that vanity items are added over time. If I look back at the MMOs that I played, then I will see exclusive items, pets, mounts, titles that someone who starts today will never be able to get.

Just like I wont get their items if they buy the game based on a promo now.

I would advice to just get used to it, it will happen in every MMO and it also happens at many other games. Steam does this a lot, they offer DLCs and if you buy them in pre order you always get goodies.

In my opinion people should just accept that not everything can be obtained, not in games and not in RL.

If you buy a char today you might get a little pink dog sticker for your engine cover, if you buy it 4 months later it might be a duck and the char costs 10% less. This is how business works, just accept it.

The point being, it was an option. Business doesn't have to work this way.

Stating obvious things like you're teaching me something does what for you?

These different things that are being cried about today. Are pathetically sad considering what they allow a company to get away with. Which was the point you ignored by stating worthless information.

I'm saying that different pieces of content mean more or less to different people. I could care less to what value you hold this truth.

You're almost catching up. I already realized people are different in what they want and was pointing how sad people are that are crying for pets. I know they're different. I'm pointing out that they are so different that it's actually pathetic.
