Which hoof beat sounds did you prefer?

The new dull sound is TERRIBLE! It MUST be a bug, as it has the same effect other sounds have when listening through a wall.

Furthermore, it makes it almost indistinguishable when riding on different surfaces. This new sound actually gives me a headache, and I have to turn footsteps audio off completely just to ride my horse.

PLEASE change it back ZOS! Pre-1.2 horse sounds were PERFECT. Also, this may be related to other overall audio bugs from the patch as the sounds for quests, discoveries, etc. aren't working for me at all anymore.

    The newer, duller/quieter sounds.
I wear headphones, and when they cranked the hoof beat volume up I had to turn effects volume way down as they were deafening.

    Patch 1.1:
"You made horse sounds too loud! Change it! Change it now!"

    Patch 1.2:
"Why aren't the horse sounds loud anymore?! Change it! Change it now!"

This is why we can't have nice things.

The problem with the new sounds is clarity more than volume.

Pre-patch 1.2.3 the hoof sounds were very atmospheric. They echoed going under bridges, and sounded very different depending on whether you were on a stone road or a dirt road, etc.

The problem with the "fix" in patch 1.2.3 (which I consider a bug) is that instead of simply adjusting the volume level which is what people complained about (though I maintain even this was NOT needed) they completely changed the effect by adding this awful and unrealistic muffle effect that sounds like it is playing through a wall.

Now hooves sound fuzzy and unrealistic and the amazing atmospheric echo effect is completely gone.

Boooo Zenimax! Put it back the way it was and let people that don't like it move their volume sliders!

Did you happen to see how many people complained about the hoof sounds when they were louder? I'm sure there were more who liked them, but the squeaky wheel gets the grease. And it just so happens that the people that post on forums tend to be the ones that want to complain.

I picked the quieter sounds, but I honestly don't really care either way.
Also, I'm wondering how many people who liked the louder version better actually commented about how they liked it instead of only commenting when they wanted to complain.

We could rephrase the question to "Are you ever happy with anything ever?" And everyone's answer can be "No."

They changed this because people complained. And despite all the threads to the contrary, the developers listen to players (probably a little too much).

I wanted to vote for the option that it doesn't matter to me if the sound is as it's currently is, or pre-patch. Sounds like a valid option in a poll to me.

LOL, there were multiple threads about it being too loud right after that was implemented. Look it up.

That would be all fine and dandy if ALL they did was lower the volume a little.

    That ISN'T what they did.

What they did is put an invisible brick wall around my horse that makes it sound like I am listening to their hooves from outside the room. They are muffled and sound horrible, and the cool echo effect that added so much to the atmosphere is completely gone.

It HAS to be a bug.

They should give us special horse sound controls. I like them super loud because if you are on a horse, it's not quiet little sounds. It shouldn't have any effect on another person's horse though. Just all horses would sound the same.

How many separate and individual aspects and details of this game that I do like should I have to take the time to mention in a thread, especially if the thread doesn't exist yet and I have to create one?

And then I have to deal with these instead:

This isn't a matter of volume. You could just turn down the volume pre 1.2 if you wanted. Now it always sounds the same and it is dull. I actually think they got the sound by taping on a piece of wood with their finger tips.

I really liked the 1.1.x sound reminded me of Mount and Blade .The sound gave the impression that the horses really had some momentum. Now I may as well ride a bike.

What is it with polls on this site? Every one I've seen offers the crappiest choices. How about neither? The old one was too loud, now it's too soft.

Hopefully ZOS will listen to the positive feedback here and make the appropriate corrections.

Clearly the majority of people prefer the old sounds. They were natural and atmospheric, and the new ones are muffled and have none of the excellent echo or terrain-specific effects.

At most, they could have just turned down the volume a little, but really, people had the ability to do that themselves.

I look to see them revert this change and either slightly tone down the volume, or possibly create a mount-specific volume slider.

If by old you mean original, sure.

After Craglorn they were loud enough to cause me to prefer running or taking my headset off.

I agree the dull thud sound is not as good. Why can't they give us a Horse Settings section in the menu? Choose the volume, choose the sound.

Yes . The best would be post 1.1.x and pre 1.2.x. Give a wide volume range and make the default somewhat low volume for the people that don't know that sound settings exist in pc games.
