Which hoof beat sounds did you prefer?

After the hooves sound changing the first time, I (and as many others as I've talked to) really enjoyed the new walking/trotting/cantering/galloping sounds the horses made.

Now they are super quiet and sound as though there are cloth booties over the hooves.

Could we get the previous sounds back by chance?

Aw..I really liked how loud they'd made the..whatever you call "sprinting" for horses. Did they change it back?

well im a nightblade and i dont like to draw attention to myself in cryodiil since i am the assasin type and like to remain silent and less seen and less heard. so i do prefer this new sound.

i can only assume that the nords, orcs, dragonights, and barbaric types prefer the old horse foot sounds.

I prefer the volume being attached to the "Footsteps" slider now, instead of the "Effects" one, but although the volume is now bearable again (was way too loud before) all the definition and subtle audio cues from riding across various kinds of terrain are gone.

It's better and worse imo. Can't win I guess.

I don't need it to be too LOUD, but the above is exactly what I mean.

Instead of crisp sound differences between terrain, it sounds muffled. Quite a bit so, actually.

I agree! Not fussed on the new sound at all.

I also enjoyed the pre-patch louder (and imo 'more horsie'!) hoofbeat sounds!
Being a rider in RL, the pre-patch ones sounded more natural & immersive and I loved listening to them. (especially as they changed over the various terrain)

These quieter sounds I can barely hear...just not the same. :(

With footsteps turned all the way up I can barely hear them at all. And I can no longer discern the different terrain either.

Well...I HATED the loud sounds of the hoofs introduced from a couple patches ago, but since they just about muted this time around, I guess I miss them. I don't know why it's hard to find a happy medium.

You left "pre-patch 1.1," which would have been my answer. 1.1 made them too loud, 1.2 made them too quiet.

Yeah I miss the louder ones, they were so powerful when you were "sprinting", and different on all kinds of terrain. Being in the desert at the time there were lots of sand to road transitions, and it was great! Now the hoofbeats on sand don't sound much like sand at all, and I find it sounds like half the hoofbeats anywhere don't seem to even register.

I actually liked the louder hoofbeats/ jingling sound that we had during PTS testing before live the best. There was an issue with losing the sound during play so I don't know if that is why they changed them. It's really hard to hear the jingling sound now. It used to sound like you were riding a horse. Now, not so much.

You missed the "too oblivious to notice it changed" option.

Was riding my horse today, and I guess it sounded okay? And was riding my horse pre-patch and it sounded okay then too?

This. I prefer the sound they made before they were made thunderously loud. But since we don't have that, I'll take current sound over the too-loud noise.

I preferred the hoof sounds as they were at launch. Different sounds on different textures, etc. Now my horse sounds unshod, and as a horse person in real life, I can't help but worry for the state of their unshod feet!

Where is the "I don't care" option?

It could just as easily next time be:
"The ringing of steel weapons on armor was too loud, so we muffled it, and by the way, all combat now sounds exactly the same, whether you're using axes on armor, or arrows on imps, it all sounds the same'.

    Some of us do care.
You don't have to, but there's little difference in the criteria, and the above could just as easily occur next.

Hoof beats on wood planks, or paved roads or turf all sounds differently from each other, so why make it all sound the same and reduce the quality?

Neither. The older sounds were too loud, but were the correct sounds for hoof beats. The new sounds are that of a horse wearing rubber boots.

We could rephrase the question to "Are you ever happy with anything ever?" And everyone's answer can be "No."

They changed this because people complained. And despite all the threads to the contrary, the developers listen to players (probably a little too much).

Oh, look, the perfect place to put a slider.
    'Interaction sounds'.
    or
    'Environmental Interactions sounds'.
    I haven't noticed a difference.

And you wont get a chance to compare anymore, unless someone puts a youtube vid up.

The difference in effect is similar to replacing the sounds of all the different wildlife with the sound of a dog barking, or the sound of a bluejay.
Some people from dense urban spaces probably wouldnt notice or care, but it just aint right.

ETA: I was born in Brooklyn.
I moved to a horse farm in Maryland.
I've seen what happens when my relatives visited, and discovered that very thing. It aint all the same, and it aint all 'just noise'.
    It's a quality detail.
Make all the flowing water in the game sound the same, whether it's a calm river, or rapids, or falls, and you get the same concept.
Some people wont notice, some people will feel that some more immersive detail was shorn away.

Some people don't notice the quality of light through the windows has changed.
Some people find it breath taking.
Similar issue with detail adding to immersion and quality of game.
