Obscenely Slow Download Speeds

dweez✭My download speeds were normal but during one of the "applying" parts, it crawled to almost a standstill. Then I realized cloning a Virtual Machine file while installing the patch (soooooo much writes to my poor disk) probably wasn't a "Good Idea (tm)". Canceled the clone and the patching started up again. Yippee.
Now here's hoping I didn't corrupt the files somehow by my stupidness.0 -

✭✭✭✭✭Yes it's not just you. My download speed that I pay for gives 40down/10up and I was sitting at a max of 16/kbs and in the last 5 minutes it went to 8 /mbs finly. Took almost 3+ hours.
Then I was not allowed online due to my IP address.
Now I'm looking at a loading screen.
I'm trying not to complain but geez this is not a positive experience after a surprise 8 to 9gb update. That's like 1/3 of the entire game size.-PC (PTS)/Xbox One: NewBlacksmurf

No, it doesn't affect latency in-game if you were wondering. The game server is in Texas.

Content delivery network. There isn't one file server where everyone downloads their patches. That would bring everyone's download speed to a crawl.

No. It's not a torrent. The cdn installs their own servers in isps to serve up content. So if you live in Los Angeles and your isp is in Los Angeles, you would get your files from the cdn server at your isp in Los Angeles and not where ever the cdn's customer might be located, like ZOS in Maryland or Texas.0 -

Sounds like you're having more serious issues with your computer or Internet connection than just grabbing game files.2 -

You take a mega server and divide it among hundreds of thousands (millions?) of players all fighting for top download speeds and you end up with this. Now if they utilized say torrent technology, where your client silently shares X amount while downloading x amount, we might have normal speeds.And so did many brave men, women, and beast fall to the end of Beta, never to be heard from again. Nah, it's probably nothing to do with his system. Microsoft has issues delivering the "Update 1" patch for Win8.1 (and WinServer 2012R2) and without U1, you can't get any later patches. I finally kicked my system enough to get U1 but it was a pain.0 -
Syrrisdevlin✭✭im not sure what my avg down load speed as been currently its at around 900kb/s with 88% complete I haven't really been watching the speeds id rather watch paint dry lol but I haven been downloading since around 5 cause I woke up around 430ish and its now 8 so roughly been downloading patch for 3hours now with prob another 30-45mins to go I really feel ZOS should do some thing to increase the download speeds from their end

Confirmed. I was at 10% after three hours. After reading the above, I closed and restarted the launcher and I'm already at 17% as I type this.

Rebeka7h✭Was using the home network, and was at 6% in 2 hours. Closed out of the launcher and switched over to the verizon mifi and currently at 16% in less than 10 minutes. Not sure if it was the closing of the launcher or switching over to the mifi, or the combo of both, but it is downloading a lot faster than before.0

uh dang only 137 kb/s and still at 11% but the mb remaining seem to be slowly changing. I wish the had a patch you could manually direct download. For what ever reason my direct download speeds are alot higher then the eso client.0
