Rare Motifs = In-game currency isn't enough for some players (ARGH!)

  • Swindrel
    Look up to this list:

    Barbarian Motif: 60k-100k
    Primal Motif:60k-110k
    Ancient Elves: 110k - 140k
    Daedric: 150k - 260k

Those prices were 50% lower before this week and I have atleast opened thousands of containers trying to get those and not a single drop of those rare motifs.
Now, bots and spammers are taking advantage of these drop rates as they get more buyers for their rare motif. It is because either they've given up looking for one or because the prices are really high. Because of these, Bot and spammers will have more customers to buy from their rare Motifs. Everyday, I get like 10 mails about these motifs for sale. Selling it for real money.

These prices + the nerfed drop rate is hurting legitimate players who don't exploit to obtain the items.

Suggestion 1a: Do this ZOS, you get a quest for that Rare motif. like Daedric for defeating a really hard daedric prince and a long quest journey and other rare motifs with unique quests. Isn't it that TES is best when it comes to quests journeys like in the previous TES Titles?
Suggestion 1b: Remove the motifs from the game, finish a really long specific quest for that craft style, after finishing that quest, you get to learn that crafting style.

Suggestion 2: TAKE OFF THE BOTS AND SPAMMERS. IMPROVE YOUR SECURITY SYSTEM. Have a separate team for clearing out this bot sellers and spammers.

Suggestion 3: PLAYERS, Have a common sense, these bots will steal your credit card info. DON'T BUY FROM THEM.

Suggestion 4: Put a Drop Cooldown, example: you get a rare motif like Daedric randomly, you get to have a long drop cooldown before you find another one. do this other rare motifs too like Barbarian, Primal, Ancient Elves and Imperial.

Thanks for reading. I don't intend to have an argument as these are just suggestions.

might i suggest that you try find a crafter that can make clothes of the particular style of interest just like its always has been done in other RPG themed online games?I doubt serious crafters would charge much to craft you a set.

Problem with that is we still get ripped off by players. They think because they spent (or bought the pattern with real money) they can turn around and pass the non-savings off to you.

Motifs shouldn't be this rare or you're going to have a game with con-artist left and right.

Real money purchases are also subject to taxation where applicable (which I would imagine would be most places, one way or another. Even as an Albertan, we have to suffer federal GST, even though we have no provincial sales tax).

So yeah, ask your relevant taxation administration "so what". I _dare_ you.

I purposely sell things at low prices to combat this inflation, If i ever find a copy of the rare motifs, I plan to sell it for 10k or less, (10x the norm for regular motifs which seems pretty fair) I do love to haggle. if I ever find a regular motif it goes away for less than 700 COD. I still find a motif by searching every couple days or so. Only found one rarer motif since becoming VR. It doesn't bug me all that much. I'll probably find them all eventually.

Motifs are, after all, merely cosmetic. While I don't abide people trying to sell these things for real money, charging a lot of in-game currency doesn't bug me if the market will bear it. The only reason you might think you might absolutely NEED a given motif is if you, in turn, plan to charge a whole lot of in-game currency to sell crafted gear with that motif. You want to be a price gouger? Then you need to be able to hold your own against the other price gougers. The uber-l33t merchants are not an aspect of the game I enjoy, so I ignore them.

If you're in a halfway decently friendly guild (not necessarily a merchant guild), guildies will usually sell extra motifs for more reasonable prices, since it behooves a guild to have a variety of crafting skills within its members.

Before the drop rate decrease, in order to easily and quickly obtain motifs, players (not just bots) would repeatedly log in and out of a location to refresh desks, wardrobes, trunks, nightstands, etc.

Bots were advertising motifs, crafting mats, and gold as early as launch day.

I see a lot of forum goers and youtubers claim that the singular act of decreasing drops on items that were being lazy-farmed ruined the economy. I see a lot of forum goers and youtubers claim that the decrease brought gold-sellers to this game. I see a lot of forum goers and youtubers talking nonsense.

The fact is that the rare motifs were, in no way whatsoever, rare before the decrease. I didn't do the relog thing, but I do always check containers in buildings--I had managed to find one daedric motif, 2 primal, 1 barbarian, and 2 ancient elf motifs in a matter of days. That sucked a lot of excitement out of those items for me.

You say this. But I used to take every opportunity to loot container chests in one area for a while. I never logged in and out again and again. That was too tedious for me. But, not sure it would have helped my chances. Not had much luck with Motifs of any kind, and not a single "rare" once... ever for me.

As for the rest, I take your point. Some people can go off the deep end when it is ill advised or worth it. One thing immediately comes to mind on the respec cost. Apparently charging people for the skills points they wish to change, or reducing the respec cost, will ruin the game economy. Really is no point talking to people engaged in that.

Here's our suggestions ZOS - fix your game with one of these:
    • increase drop rates and make all motifs and recipes bind to account on pickup
      OR
    • increase drop rates significantly so all players can get what they want

Cant belive that the motifs are super low drop rates right now, or they dont even drop anymore.
I farmed yestherday for 6 hours (yea really! 6 *** hours) while watching some series and didnt get any of the motifs nor any recipes.

This is just a joke as players that have allot of them right now rule the game, all the players that didnt have the chance on getting them now need to spend all the money they earned within the game.
On just 1 motif they want.... motifs go for such an amount right now thats its not even funny anymore.

But i am kinda sure that non of the mods will talk about this untill they realized they made a big mistake and then they might say something like.

"After a long review we decided to increase the drop rate of the motif and recipes"

    or

"We encountered an error within the game that made the drop rate of the motifs and recipes to low"

But they wont say stuff like this right now as right now we are pissed off, and in about a month or so we will be not thinking about it as much.
So then when they do fix it we are all liking what they did, ...............

Do you blame the police for someone who steals from you?

Report the moron who asks for real money for anything in game. That is not allowed. The reason to deal with this, is reporting and you can be 100% sure that someone who gets several reports against them for the same violation will get a nice visit of a GM.

And for you who do not know, GMs can read whatever you ever typed in game as any of your characters. So screenshoot with proof is good, but not needed.

Really....if this is going on, PLEASE, use the report. It works.

Yeah right. You did log out and in to do that or you got insanely lucky. I didn't loot any of those and I was in the VR zones long before the nerf to drop rates and I loot every cabinet/desk type container always.

But yeah I can see why you're for the nerf to drop rates if you already found them all. The people who got them before the nerf have a huge advantage. They are pretty much unobtainable now.

The solution is clear ZOS - as we've been saying:
    • make motifs and recipes bind to account on pickup and return droprates to pre-nerf state
    or
    • make droprates extremely high so everyone can get them

Choose one and this will all go away.

Sad to say, this is likely what's going to happen. Given what their developing track record reveals thusfar, I'd expect:

    1. Motif's and other hotly debated items becoming bound on aquire.
    2. Drop rates being raised one half of .001 percent.

Gold Farmers move on to the next item the can try to entice you with. Real players get shafted again if their character is unlucky with random drops. Zenimax throws up a Mission Accomplished banner on a boat and calls a press conference.

And, despite my mild sarcasm here, this is indeed the most likely solution with all the noise being made about this topic. Good luck folks!

But it's freaking cosmetic, IMO if the economy is messed up, It is because of the players placing value in something that really shouldn't have any. the economy runs on supply and demand, for the love of god if you want the price to go down stop demanding

The basic race ones were always far more common. I looted probably 5 of each of the basic race ones except imperial of which I only looted one ever. The barbaric, primal, ancient elf and daedric are more like the imperial than the basic races. They were rare. Now they are just lottery-style rare.

ZOS needs to crack down on sites or players selling these for real money as that is against the EULA. Any RMT action should be strictly dealt with. RMT is RMT.. I don't care if a real player is behind the character or a bot. They need to be temp banned. Then perma banned if they can't realize they are breaking the rules.

The rarity of the motifs should stay rare... that is what rare means. Something that isn't readily available. I wish I would have stocked up on these before they nerfed their spawn rate, but at least now they are rare.. like they are supposed to be. The people that did stock up can reap the benefits.. but their supply will run out too.

This is an insane amount of money to offer for a racial book and an indicator of how rare it is, yet I keep getting bot mail offing this book at least 10 times a day. Do you think others are paying gold sellers for this book? Highly likely.

The drop rates definitely went down, although I have found 1 rare motif since they have. I have found tons of materials though.. Daedric Hearts seem to be the most common rare material that I find lately as well. Prices are ridiculous, but it won't last. I would never buy a motif for that much, although I don't need them but even if I did. Heck, I wouldn't have bought for the price before the nerf. They are worth 5k at most in my opinion, nothing should sell for extreme prices unless you're buying stacks. Like a stack of grain solvent or something, then yeah of course that should be a bit pricey but people are crazy to pay such high prices for their motifs.
