So for people who don't want to click the link pretty much players can start on PC/Mac and then transfer their characters to the XBox or PS4.

They also say that for a fee of $20 they can get the full version of the console version. Which is a little fuzzy on what that means.

Do they have to pay to transfer or is the transfer free but $20 to get some console specific stuff.

Another leaked rumor that turned out to be true I guess. I still think they might be holding off until they get the cash shop ready and go free to play.

"We continue to work on the console versions of ESO, and game development has been progressing steadily, but we are still working to solve a series of unique problems specific to those platforms. Integrating our systems with each console manufacturer’s networks—which are both different from the PC/Mac system as well as different from each other—has been a challenging process."

I wonder if that's truely the case, or are they stalling for time to polish the game before they launch on console?

It's wise for them to hold off either way. I think most of us PC gamers wish they would've done the same, or at least given us another couple months of free beta testing.

I don't know much about the PS4 networking stack, but the XBox is just the windows kernel. I guess they are having trouble not with the networking but with Playstation network and XBox live.

Of course I heard the developing on consoles sucks either way.

    @ZOS_JessicaFolsom‌,

How do you think Zenimax will respond to people thinking they are just delaying because they think that the game is not polished enough for console? I can see how some people would think that, and I don't really blame them, but I am just curious how you guys will counter that.

From what I remember of CCP when they released Dust 514 (if you are unaware of these, CCP run eve and dust 514 is their console version of a game which runs in the eve universe.) They never released dust 514 on the Xbox because it has a closed network, the idea being its harder for people to hack accounts and games. However PS allowed for cross network access (which might explain why PS accounts used to get hacked a lot at first).

I should imagine if they wish to release the console version across all platforms at the same time then they need to get each platform working and available before they release any of them, or if they was to go as CCP did they would only release on the one available platform (in CCP with Dust 514 it was the PS they released on) which means anyone who owned an Xbox and wanted to play dust had to buy a PS.

I can absolutely believe that this would cause trouble if they wanted to have these games all integrated into one working system.

You have to rebuy the game, and pay for a separate subscription. I assume that also means you won't be able to carry over your PC character or items.

If you read the link, you can pay another $20 to transfer your character to console.

I think it is pretty *** for a company to make game developers to have to run all the networking through their system first. I know XBox requires people to pay to use it. That is just insane.

That's pretty cool. Still sucks you have to buy another copy of the game. I also wish they'd allow you to link the console copy to your pc subscription. Just make it so you can only be logged in from a single location at a time. Seems reasonable to me?

If this game goes free to play then I am out. Free to play either nickel and dimes you to make forward progress, or you end up with two tiers of players, the best who are paying, or the people who struggle and never get the good gear who don't pay.

It is $20 to transfer AND another free month to play. So really only $5.

I guess it really depends on how reasonably they price their cash shop. I've yet to see a reasonably priced cash shop, though.

Most cash shops are setup to get the amount of money you'd spend on a year of subscriptions, but get it up front. Then, if you stop playing after 2 months, they still got that year's worth of subscriptions out of you.

As a player, you have to keep playing a F2P game for close to a year usually for it to really pay off in comparison to the subscription model. This is why I find it humorous when players complain about having to pay a subscription.

If you decide to quit the game after 6 months of playing, you've only paid $90. Most F2P games will get twice that out of you in the first month.

I just wish you could go back and forth. Like, maybe one day I want to play on the PC, and the next I want to play on the Xbox. Maybe my wife wants to watch some girly drama shows on the television, so I need to play on the computer. Or maybe I'm away from home, and I have a PC available to play on. Maybe I'm at my brothers house, and he has the console version of the game, and I want to play on it while he's doing homework or something.

I understand having to buy the box copy, but having to acquire a new subscription and pay to move your character to it seems unnecessary to me.

Yeah, of course you might never get any clarification on if you can until too late. Of course I think accounts are through three different account systems: Xbox live, Playstation Network, and whatever they call their PC account system.

Can't you play your Diablo3 account on console or PC? I haven't bought the console version of it, yet. Does anyone know if that's the case?

Playstation Network and Xbox Live are just Internet access layers. They shouldn't have anything to do with the subscription model in my opinion.

If you make a character on the PC you cannot play it on the console for Diablo III obviously and the reverse is true.

They are not just a proxy to the internet. There are stipulations on what you can and cannot use them for. Also you have to pay for the Xbox live service if you want to play multiplayer which is total BS.

Yeah. They are proxy layers - which is the same as an Internet access layer.

I find it odd that you can't play your character on console that you play on the PC. Afterall, your character's information is all stored on the cloud, not on the local system. It should be accessible on either platform in my opinion.

Did FFXIV make it to console in the end?

    Then there's Defiance...

Seems the track record for those that do go cross platform isn't particularly good.. especially from a PC Gamer's standpoint..
