Why is this game not a sandbox?

Hello. I'm new in the forums, but what the hell were the developers thinking?? ES has always been about sandboxes and this game isn't?!?!? Some of the quests are boring as hell. Where is TG or DB quests? 5/10. I expected more from you ESO.

This. If it were a sandbox game there would be 100's of posts asking "Wow, I can't find anything, this game is stupid, where do I go???"

As is, you can go anywhere you want in each zone, so its not really all that restricted.

    But thats just my opinion

news just in: this is NOT Elders Scrolls VI, this another type of game based on ES lore. Also, if you took off your rose coloured glasses you might realise, not every quest in all the ES games that came before were interesting either. In fact I cant name a single game ever in which every single quest was gold.

PS they were clear well before launch those guilds would be coming later.

LOL. I expected an Elder Scrolls game, but I got crap. You may want a WOW clone, but I don't. I played wow for two months and stopped. It was so boring. People need to wake up and smell the roses and see that this game has major flaws.

if you think this is a wow clone I'm surprised you figured out how to turn the computer on.

I'm guessing your first elder scrolls was skyrim? possibly oblivion? ES hasn't always been a hiking simulator that made the entire world level to your character. Its closer to morrowind and previous titles.

Even skyrim isn't really a "sandbox" its still a progressive RPG with a world that levels to your character. There is a reason some of the most popular mods for skyrim and oblivion bring them more in line with morrowind.

I'm glad it isn't Skyrim online - can you even imagine what a hot mess it would be if everyone could kill all the npcs knock everything around and steal everything? It would be elder trolls online.

also as an above poster said sandbox MMOs always fail hardcore. I tend to enjoy them but they fail fast. There is a reason Archage cratered in Korea. Here is a list of "sandbox" MMOs for you to try instead (some are even free to play)

    Ultima Online
    Mortal
    Wurm Online

There are a lot more actually. I'm done spoon feeding you.

People don't know what wow-clone means. There are MMO related terms that people throw around that they just don't understand. If wow-clone meant that the game had more than 1 player and graphics then sure, this game meets that criteria, but on any other level it's just a term being thrown out by someone who doesn't understand what it means.

Never understood why people claim this not to be an elder scrolls game. We were pretty much aware of the fact that it wouldn't be Skyrim, and that it would have to make sacrifices in order to be an MMO. No MMO can be compared in playstyle to a single player game. They are too different and a Single player game has a clear beginning and end to it, while an MMO is not as clear on that point.

I think that taken into consideration what does make an Elder Scrolls game, they've managed to capture the essence and the read thread of it. Good story line, big world, open for exploration, interesting combat system and good graphics. It's very much in the essence an Elder scrolls game. What it's NOT is a direct sequel to Skyrim. Yet that is what most people - even the reviewers - seems to compare from.

Also how some manages to call this a WoW clone is beyond my comprehension. WoW isn't even reaching up to the boot straps of ESO in most terms. What WoW is these days is a fancy name and a used-to-be good game company attached to it. What makes WoW these days aren't as much the game - good as it used to be - but the legion of fans that defend every thing about it as it was the holy grail of MMO. Sadly, WoW could have been that, but it failed hard and fell hard with Cataclysm and My Little Panda.

    None MMO

EVE is only successful MMO sandbox IMO. They have a niche and a learning curve that sends the majority of paying subs running. People think they want an MMO sandbox, but they want "sandbox-esque" experience.

Nobody mentioned SWG ...In my mind it's probably the best attempt at a sandbox mmo ever. It failed, but certainly not because it was a sandbox.

I am surprised you bother even playing an MMO, since they all bore you. No one is 'defending' anything, since I doubt anyone cares whether you play it or not. You are not that important.

A single player sandbox is not the same thing as a sandbox MMO. One type doesn't work in the other genre.

Mother Teresa was evil, and people love to defend her. So if you don't like the game, maybe you picked the right analogy, and it shouldn't surprise you.

I'd like to see a sandbox MMO, but I really don't think it'd do well. Sometimes I think it would, and then zone chat makes it apparent that tons of the people currently playing MMOs need hand holding, which is what a theme park is designed to do. The number of times I see "I'm underleveled and I have no more quests" and "what do I do?" type posts or comments both in game and on the forums are kinda insane. People seem to need guidance now that guidance has been introduced, and those who like finding things, setting out and exploring and all that seem to be a niche group.

I think exploring in this game can be really rewarding, especially in cyrodiil because of how open it feels. The pve areas definitely have more of a themepark feel to them.

People are stating their opinion. Some people like the game as is, why would they want it to change? Doesn't make them fanboys (hate that word), they're just trying to make the game fun for them, same as you're doing. You're just name-calling them because they disagree, is what it really comes down to.
