Halls of Torment, Defeat Lyris Doppleganger issues....

I already posted my experience with this boss with my first character on page one, but now that I have beaten her with my Sorcerer as well I still don't get why people are having such troubles with this boss. I facerolled her with my Sorc in mere minutes. And I don't have special tactics or specific build. Throw out my storm atronauch, keep blasting on her and that's it. Don't forget to walk in circles around her. You can kill the orbs with AOE of just get them with an instant-cast.

This boss does not behave like the other bosses. Those who don't understand why some of us beat this boss need to step back and just accept the fact that not everyone can do this.

Specific issues -- she spams feasts, she spams her attacks.
The companion you bring with you, whether it's Lyris or Tharn, is useless.
Your attacks rarely fire off they way they should. I have bugged this in game.

The forced solo aspect of this flies in the face of the promise the devs made that we can play how we like.

The harvester in the level 43 fighter's guild is exactly the same. As is Merric being totally useless.

The harvester in the 3 crowns quest behaves differently, The npcs fighting on your side are not completely useless. I was able to manage this one even with my attacks not working properly, the npcs did just enough damage to make this one possible, but it still was not easy.

I last tried the first two battles at level 45, I'll try them again at vet level 1. If I'm lucky those two bosses will have finally been fixed and the companions will do what they are supposed to do.

Do you move around in circles around her?

I killed this boss last night and she did give me a little bit of trouble.

What I did was use my quick range attacks with a staff to take out the little blue balls before they reached her. She wasn't too bad after I started doing that.

Which is essentially the whole idea behind these harvesters. This and keep moving. But I am glad you managed to kill her, one less person who has troubles with harvesters (trust me, they do get easier).

I want to thank the people who gave advice above to take a serious look at my build-outs and also who gave the hint to shoot the Orbs (no, I'm not very observant when I'm in the heat of battle). Yes, so far my builds haven't mattered much as I'm usually at or slightly above level for the monsters I've faced, BUT HERE, I got obliterated quickly several times with my usual bow and sword & board setup, even though I'm a level 31 NB.
Since I selected Lyris, I figured ranged abilities were best while she tanks (I think ranged abilities are almost necessary here unless you can bring immediate AoE effects when the Orbs spawn). I dropped my usual sword & board for a Resto staff with 2 healing abilities slotted (even though my Resto staff ability is only 8 ), and kept my usual Bow setup for my primary weapon.
I swallowed a 8 Health Regen pot, and put a Weapon Critical Pot in my quick slot (which I didn't get to use due to a couple lag issues during battle). My primary attacks were Siphoning (magicka) skills Agony and then Swallow Soul until I saw the Orbs then used my bow to take them out, occasionally using Arrow Spray in a panic if they got too close to Lyris Dopple. When magika was low I'd use the other 3 Bow abilities (Stamina).
Every now and again, right after I killed the Orbs, before they could show up again, I switched to the staff and healed Lyris so she could get up and draw the Dopple's attention, which gave me some time to switch back to Bow and start back through those abilities since Stamina had had some time to recharge.
Didn't really do a ton of dodging of her attacks as my health was usually between half and 3/4 full. It took about 10 minutes or so, with an occasional Orb restoring some of her health every now and again, but if she doesn't get those, then the battle just needs some patience to keep whittling her down.
I used my Ultimate while she was still Lyris before she transformed so it really didn't enter into the fight. Also, my arrows would kill the sphere's in one shot (my Bow ability is 37).
It did feel good to finish this fight!
And again, I thank everyone for the hints and pointers in this thread here to let me beat her on just my second run through the dungeon with a more carefully thought through setup.

I considered this boss the hardest I had ever faced and thought victory was impossible level 33 dragon knight 2 handed. When I looked it up I found that all you have to do is hit the orbs, they heal you and stop lyris from healing that's it....... GG

Not exactly a ragequit here, but I just cancelled my subscription largely because of this massively broken quest.

What those who are so gauche as to brag about how "easy" it is fail to realize is that there is a a significant power disparity between certain classes/builds in the game.

Basically, right now, certain classes have an easier time of it, especially if certain builds are used.

I've been playing a dual-dagger Nightblade and -- up until now -- I've been able to compensate for some of that archetype's inescapable squishiness through careful skill choices and battle tactics.

But "Halls Of Torment"? It's a complete waste of effort -- even ten levels above the quest mark -- nothing but death, no matter how I work my build.

As the OP and others have written, the instance has a series of its own problems which make it worse -- it can lag even on the best systems and connections; the crucial targeting of the dopplegangers heal spheres rarely works as it should -- resulting in an endlessly-healing boss for certain characters; the companion NPC is utterly worthless; and on and on and on.

I also experienced the infamous Nightblade "combat de-synch" repeatedly in this mission -- where the game is not lagging, but the NB's abilities simply stop activating for a few crucial seconds during the combat.

When you add all this alongside the fact that the double-dagger Nightblade class is intended to fight in-close, incapacitate, and do massive damage in bursts before fading back, the problem with bosses like the Lyris doppleganger become even more apparent.

Such bosses are tuned instead to expect melee from tank classes and builds like the Dragonknight or the Templar; double-dagger Nightblade are meant to be hit-and-run melee dps ... but bosses like the Lyris doppleganger are built to resist tanks, so the DD Nightblade can't seem to do much -- and they can't take the endless string of tank-intended counterattacks bosses like the Lyris doppleganger can dish out.

I've tried various builds, and tricks, and tactics but it's obvious to me that I'm never going to progress in my main storyline until something is changed in either the quest or my class.

So, I've cancelled my subscription over this. I expect I'll come back when I can actually progress as intended, and playing the game feels fun again.

Totally agree, those people are arrogant and insufferable, they may think it but there's no need to be gratuitously offensive to those having real problems getting through hugely over-buffed/badly-tuned fights like this.

As a nightblade bosmer bow user i agree on the weakness of that class to other classes i've played. Previously i was sorcerer and killed the lyris dopple easily. But this time im 5 levels above her yet i it took me 20 attempts to kill her. Reason being ...i simply got the combat de sync every time...my arrow never hitting the orbs i cant seem to target, or my mouse clicking/ or button pushing not doing anything.
Plus the real Lyris being totally useless. Also when i die and come back the dopple didnt start again as Lyris but starts as the Harvester which made it even harder to bring her health down.
I eventually got her down by running in circles around her, then focusing on trying to shoot the orbs out (even with many of the abilities not working) and syphoning her health as much as i could with swallow soul.

I heard the devs had been working to improve the nightblade class to be equal to others and at the start playing the same levels as i played in the beta, it did seem slightly improved, but that class is still underpowered compared to the others.

OMG as soon as i read you can kill the orbs and gain life it became extremly dificult to simple. I wish i thought of that to start with . Lucky you can return from the dead in this game.

I'm level 33 and I gave up on this yesterday. I've died at least a dozen times since level 30 trying to finish this quest.

Game won't let me Abandon the quest either. Dunno why.

But I give up. There is no way to beat this. I doubt a group of a dozen people could beat it.

Seeing how thousands upon thousands of other players have beaten this even before it was nerfed considerably, your comment seems a bit over the top. There clearly is a way to beat this. It requires you to do two things: get out of the way of those Dark Winter spells as often as you can (the grabby blue ghosts that race along the ground in three forward streaks) and shoot the Feasts (the orbs) to both heal yourself and prevent the Harvester from healing. AoE damage abilities can help a lot with the orbs, but any ranged attack will suffice.
Yes, it's a fairly tough fight, but hey, I could do it, and I suck at this game. I am rolling alts because I still can't beat VR levels solo without dying at every turn, even after the VR nerf, and I will probably never be able to hold a candle in PvP.

It's tough, no question about it, and takes the right strategy like Stefan mentioned above. And like him, I'm not a Uber-gamer either. lol - I remember when my wife did this I heard words coming out of her mouth that I hadn't heard since we were married

Have beaten this quest twice, once as a bow Templar, once as an AoE sorc. Fight needs some thought and usually a change of tactics. Probably the one quest that annoyed me the most all the way to VR levels. Templar took a lot of tries and I needed to change my skills around, Sorc took about 10 seconds and I forgot to use my Ultimate. AoE is a must.
