ZOS_JessicaFolsom this fix isn't working at all.... Please just issue a client patch and get this fixed correctly. Why wasn't this tested in the 6 hour downtime today?
  • GeneralCornwallace
I can confirm unpinning it from your task bar works, at least for me.

It likely was. You are part of .1% of people with a problem, with most of the people in this thread finding out that it was a LOCAL issue (Such as running as administrator) that is causing it. Stop blaming them when it is most likely your fault.

Try go in to the games folder where the launcher is and open it from there, that should work

2ND time I've had to wait for the repair to finish, only to find out it doesn't know my version type. Wash, rinse, repair.

Okay. So I did all the steps listed on the support page linked, plus deleting the .version files. After repairing same problem, error 209.

Luckily the game runs just fine as long as I bypass the launcher and run directly from the game .exe file.

Not to complain, but this is the main reason I hate launchers for games. Most of the time a problem with a launcher is just a problem with it, and not the game itself. Every MMO I've played that uses a launcher has problems like this.

I had the error for about ten minutes, of closing and re opening and running the tool, and repairing, when I closed it after running the tool and re opened, it worked for me.

Try running as an admin, and if your launching it through steam, run as admin without it being through steam, then in steam again. Thats what got it working for me.
    This worked for me.

This is how you fix it on a PC. Hit CTRL+ALT+DEL (opens Task Manager) select ESO Launcher - RIGHT CLICK > GO TO PROCESSES > RIGHT CLICK > END PROCESS TREE

    Now restart game all better

Yeah, same problem here. Hitting repair often just brings the error dialogue box back up. Sometimes it actually runs a repair...and then I get the dialogue box AGAIN. Once I actually got in. I guess the solution is to never log out again? :|

Exit Steam. Restart the patch. Restart the launcher.
Profit! At least it did for me.

We posted this in another thread, but want to make sure you see it, too.

If you are getting error 209, please try the following:
    • First, please ensure you are accessing the game via the launcher, not the .exe file.
    • Try closing out of the launcher and re-open it, then run a repair.
    • If you try to repair and it does not work, please delete all .version files in the game's sub folders and try repair again.

Thanks @ZOS_JessicaFolsom, tried everything you mentioned plus everything everyone else suggested on the first two pages (admin, steam, check-box(es) ...) but no luck (sad to say that apparently only luck determines whether this works or not).
Oddly enough, on my laptop, which is right next to my PC and on the same connection, there was no problem, so now I'm copying all game files from one machine to another.
Re-downloading would have been the next choice, but I've done that a few times prior to this patch and the dial-up speeds that I get are cringeworthy at best (download 50-250kbps vs. copy via LAN12Mbps - as a reference, downloading Rift got me speeds in excess of 6Mbps).

I realize we're still in the launch-phase and I appreciate the hard work I strongly suspect you are all doing behind the scenes, but I wish you'd get it all sorted out real soon, bots, hacks, stuck quests, latency and all, not necessarily in that order ;-)
    Good luck!
    To us all ... :-|

Edit: copy complete, I'm in. No reboot needed
Edit 2: LOL after logging out, 209 is back. Reboot chased it off...

True, you may have to close and restart, then close and restart. <BLINK> But it eventually lets you in.........

Lol. Clicked consultant, then repaired, then it worked but stupid game keeps stuttering on me so I closed it and opened launcher, problems comes back up.

This never happened before the patch.

    Tried running as admin,
    works for now.

    UPDATE:
Exited game, and just saw the patcher still getting the error, but I did log-in, so its not a solution.
