Because I am a player that would use it to do good, not a troll who's going to ban someone because they asked where to buy a mount or where the bank is.
And I suppose Trolls would give themself away by not saying that?

That's why i said select players that prove themselves. Not every player.

How would you prove yourself. And if you made a mistake. Could be somebodies mule with that fflwkrjt name. Could be a regular player who bots and sells to gold sellers who would complain you banned him for know reason. You would need access to his transection records to verify.

You have nothing to worry about. The staff at zenimax are not fools. They wont let players have this kind of power. People message me all the time and I ignore them. If this went through the little dictators would be demanding attention or ban city. Wont happen in a million years.

The EVE Online system isn't so much player policing it's just a tool "Report ISK Spammer" which global mutes and sends a notification to the GM/Security team about it.
There are very harsh penalties for abuse of this however and most people are not keen on losing their accounts.

TBH just a more streamlines feature would make me happy, a one button report which also adds that player to my ignore list so I don't need to spend time typing out the same thing in the bug report every time.

Why are we even discussing this? There will be no way players will ever be given the right to ban. As they are not employees of the company, their actions would be held liable for lawsuit. Also, many players would decide, like myself, that these actions by the company would be immature and irresponsible. They would see MANY players just quit because they are giving god like power to regular players.

I think it is a great idea, but the player that get the ban hammer power, should not be able to ban perminant, there should me a massage send the the support team (ofcourse automatic) and from there they can banned perminant.
  • toddcanniffub17_ESO
Rather than a ban, it could be that these "proven" players could get the ability to force the bots and spammers to simply get reported & logged off (30 sec delay to give a real player a chance to respond and cancel).

I already said this was a better idea.

How do you determine that people farming a boss in a (public?) dungeon should be banned? How do you determine which players are bots? Where do you draw the line about banning someone in chat?

I feel a good way to deal with bots would be to give select players that prove themselves power to ban. I personally have reported 200+ botters and gold spammers. There are trolls that should not be given this power but people like me that just want to make bots go away could save the GM's a lot of time and trouble. Every time I go dungeon diving I see five or more that I could take care of while I'm in there.

Just a thought, though it will never happen because of toxic players that would ban someone who took their kill or got to a node before them.

    NO

    Banning is NOT your right.

It is the right of the paid employees of ZOS and it is there right to reinforce game policy. While I detest the botting and gold spamming just as much as you(see my thread about it and my solution) I believe this is a terrible idea....sorry if I come off as rude, but this is a TERRIBLE idea.

Just because you're in som "Psyijic Order" doesn't give you the right to ban people......this would be a great way to kill the game.

What if I disagreed or said something that irritated one of these people?
Than I'm banned for however many days it take to appeal and I would quit as would everyone else this would undoubtedly happen to.

Giving ANY player any ability to prohibit or remove (temporarily or permanent) is a dumb idea. What do you think would happen if some player gets kicked or banned just because the player assumed they were a bot? The company would be in crap creek.

A regular player would never have the resources to prove without a doubt if someone was a bot or they have their chat disabled.

Yeah start giving players that can't seem to tell the difference between someone farming and a bot the power to ban people, yeah that will end well.

Easy to tell...group of players with asjdh names auto attacking the spawn point...

    LOL
You are the prefect person to police the game since you aren't smart enough to realize after a couple bots get banned the people making them will start putting in a little effort to make a name. The only way to tell if its a bot or a player farming it log the player movement it happens in a prefect pattern that its a bot. So are you going to sit there and time a player to make sure they aren't a bot?

What is stopping someone with the banning power to banned someone that ninja something from you?

You aren't prefect there buddy what happens when you ban the wrong person on mistake and takes them a week to get their account back? That why it take time with bot. Have to make sure its a bot and not someone farming.

Apparently you don't understand that a lot of people have chat disabled. I've been accused of botting multiple times and even had to speak to GMs about it. Reason why? They tried to talk to me in public chat, and I have that disabled.

You cannot prove, as a regular player, who is a bot and who isn't in all cases. If you think anything otherwise, you're not bright.

I dont know if you guys remember Ultima Online but they had player councilors who were similar to a GM except they could not do anything but travel to a player and answer questions. These "volunteers" sued EA asking for pay. The courts ruled corporations cannot have volunteer employees. So EA got rid of the program. Thats why you will never have volunteer player GMs.

Judging a player by his name and if he is swinging at mid air, sounds like you are just judging a book by its cover. If players are to be banned for botting, there shouldn't be any doubt about it, rather then just I think they are bots. I am sure there are farmers out there casting their skill out of boredom from waiting for the boss to spawn.

I would rather 10 bots escape a ban than 1 innocent player be banned.

There are games that has volunteer GM, but they do have very strict guildlines on what the volunteer GM can and cannot do.

Are you suggesting that ZOS give such players access to the internal data that they consult when investigating reports--or that player vigilantes would know what they're seeing and have no need for any stinking data?

    Hey, it's the bot apologist!

I'm totally against the idea in this particular thread, but why is it everywhere I go I see you defending the botpeople?

Don't answer, I don't really care why. Defending bots makes you a bot.

My main was stuck in Cyrodiil area, so I got out my little alt healer and went to Stonefalls to visit a few public dungeons. Inner Sea Armature had 14 bots. Another had 8 bots, and the other had 4 bots. It's a serious pain to try and select each one to report when you have 14 bots stacked on each other auto attacking. Something needs to be done because taking the time to report 14 bots is excessive especially when nothing will happen for a long time. He left Armature empty handed, not even one soul shard. The one with 8 bots he got a few things. Ended up getting a few drops at the one with only 4 bots. Still, not a pleasant day at all really.

AC did away with GM Volunteers after that suit as well, but AC had the best bot banning I've seen.

The gm would check you out and if they thought you were not at the keys yourself (unattended) then they freeze your character, send you a game tell, which you can't block and ask you some questions. If you don't respond, or don't respond correctly, you are obviously a bot and are banned.

I think it was a three day for first time, 1 week for the second time, then permed.

Wish they could track down players that give these people business. Stop feeding the problem and the problem goes away. But always lazy players that want to pay and get everything they could need.
