Banning rights.

toddcanniffub17_ESO
I feel a good way to deal with bots would be to give select players that prove themselves power to ban. I personally have reported 200+ botters and gold spammers. There are trolls that should not be given this power but people like me that just want to make bots go away could save the GM's a lot of time and trouble. Every time I go dungeon diving I see five or more that I could take care of while I'm in there.

Just a thought, though it will never happen because of toxic players that would ban someone who took their kill or got to a node before them.

There's that Psijic Order reward some people have been asking for! The ability to ban people. Great idea.

Player moderation is NEVER a good idea, EVER. You seem to know that so I'm not sure why you posted it.

EVE is the only game where players have any power and that's by design, it's intended to a a free-for-all with few rules, however it is of course an huge exception.

Because I am a player that would use it to do good, not a troll who's going to ban someone because they asked where to buy a mount or where the bank is.

So, has anyone actually seen a GM in game? What about interacting with one in game that actually does something to fix your issue in game while you're on, like something you saw happen?

That alone could help with some of the issues we're having with bots and gold spammers. However, it doesn't seem ZOS actually has anyone in the game to see what's happening first hand. At least I haven't seen it so far... anyone else?

If ZOS can't even bother to put one of their own in the game to monitor things, why on earth would they give a player those abilities? :)

Because they don't pay the players the players pay them, that's why you don't see active GM's, too cheap to pay more than the ones answering tickets.

Yeah start giving players that can't seem to tell the difference between someone farming and a bot the power to ban people, yeah that will end well.

They would just need a few for each faction to just patrol the bots are so easy to see.

I think all one needs to do is consider the irritation at mods who jump the gun and/or go on a power trip to foresee how this idea would play out.

Yes, let's give this power to these Platonic Philosopher Kings... except, the problem is, they don't exist. They never existed. And, they probably never will.

Bots are never at the computer so if the gun was jumped there could be a 30 second timer to respond before the ban goes through. Would catch the bots and the players could cancel it.

Ok I'll give you that one, but i can't tell you how many people have accused me of being a bot only to be surprised when I reply, and my character names are not asjdh.

I've seen players labelled 'Volunteer' a couple of times. I haven't interacted with them to see what they're doing though. Is this what you mean?

If you are seriously interested in having this level of involvement in the game you will need to apply for a job with ZeniMax Online. Get hired and maybe you'll finally realize your dream of running around banning botters and gold sellers.

i think 'volunteer' is just a title you can select for yourself after doing the first quests in cyrodil.

Rather than a ban, it could be that these "proven" players could get the ability to force the bots and spammers to simply get reported & logged off (30 sec delay to give a real player a chance to respond and cancel).

Okay, here's a problem. I've been known to make stew while playing. For those who don't know, you need to boil the meat for a couple hours. Yes, make stew from scratch.

I'll find a safe space, wander off to the kitchen, about once every 10-15 minutes, and be back five minutes later satisfied that the pot didn't boil over, and the kitchen isn't in the process of turning into a beef apocalypse.

I don't do anything while I'm AFK, obviously. But, what I really want is an amateur mod deciding that this guy crouching in the corner over there must be a bot waiting for some spawn they don't know about, and applying a ban... "just in case." Which of course, I didn't see, because I wasn't at my keyboard.

This is to say nothing of the player who pisses off one of your philosopher kings by smarting off at them in zone. Or someone who's in a dungeon when their kid does something stupid, and they need to go AFK right now, and they'll just have to eat the repair costs.

In fact, the only thing your 30 second response timer won't affect are the bots, because that's an easy enough thing for the AI to respond to.

Absolutely not. Players should never have any kind of administrative capabilities. Thats why we have the GM staff. Players cannot just arbitrarily decide someone is a bot.

This couldn't work for both legal and public relation reasons.

There's other concerns, as well. i.e. a house guest jumps on your computer while you're in the bathroom or your account becomes compromised.

This has been tried before, though. I, and thousands of others over the years, did serve as volunteer Customer Service during the EverQuest era. Eventually, you'll end up picking up one or two people who actually turn out to be malicious, and all manner of problems arise. A lot of our abilities/power had to be stripped after a while, because that's just what ends up happening.

Humans, who're not legally bound to contract with penalties (i.e. being fired), have a tendency to become power hungry.
