[Request/Feedback] Make the first respect for skill and attributes free or 90% off.

Seeing as the game is new and we're testing things out and learning, I think the price for respec is a bit high.

I'm wondering what others would think if the first time respec for attributes plus skill points was significantly lowered.

Maybe let us pay x amount of gold per point removed and have us select which points we want to remove.

I understand a high cost but it's the first time cost when we're still learning that concerns me.

I made the votes anonymous so don't worry about backlash for your choice.

I think any of these options would work better than current model but I'd love to hear what other players think:
  • Make the first (and only the first) respec for both attributes and skills free
  • Make the cost of all respecing significantly cheaper over all
  • Make it a pay x amount of gold gold per point, but let us choose which points to remove.

A good way to balance this would be to have a scaling cost. example:

If you are respeccing less than 10 amount of points, and you are under 10 level its say 50 gold per point.

If you are respeccing less than 20 amount of points, and you are under 20 level its say 75 gold per point. etc etc

That way the ones that want to learn and experiment with builds low level can do so without having to re-roll a character and start from scratch since the price is so high.

I guess we must be the only 2 who play the game that feel the prices are not okay.

    Edit: Accidently a word.

Yup I do agree the first time respect should be at a much cheaper rate or free. This gives players the opportunity to test about skills and builds. Currently there is also no way to try a skill first before spending a skill point in it, which makes cheaper first time respect a greater necessity.

I am fine with the cost per point, I just don't want to pay for ALL of them to be moved. Usually it's just a few points that were misplaced or lackluster that I wish to place somewhere else.

Yea I agree paying to move them all when you only want to move say 2-3 is too much.

I don't see a problem with the cost of respecs. I've played the PTS since Jan and the live game since early access and I've never had to respec any of my characters. But I don't just throw points into everything, I take my time choosing where to spend them.

I agree, that in a game like this where it's very hard to pre-plan a build till you've played the game once the first respec should be a NOMINAL cost, scaling up (sharply if you really feel the need) thereafter.

The price for the first one right now simply helps feed the gold sellers.

One reason MMOs suffer gold buying is when enough players feel that they have to spend gold they don't have otherwise they can't carry on playing. Sure, that's no excuse but they don't need to make excuses and lower priced first respec per se isn't going to fix it but then add other high-priced items such as a mount (pretty damned essential later on) and other things and it's easy to see how many players end up buying gold because they game makes obtaining such things impossible for them.

No, it's not right, but it's REALITY and high-priced first respec is one example where game designers design-in RMT: or games for F2P and sell these things in the 'store'.

I totally agree with this. I about fell over after I realized how much it cost me the first time just because I found out I didn't need a couple skills and wanted to put them into something more useful. Maybe separating the crafting skills from the combat skills might be a good thing as well. I ended up dropping one crafting professing just to primarily focus on one, and at level 24, 5K was a bit much to adjust 3 or 4 points and I didn't even touch my attributes points :/

I think the first respec should be at a lower cost, with each new respec costing more and more so that it cant be farmed as 'build of the week' fads happen

I take the time choosing my points as well and played beta and tried to foresee this and plan accordingly but some skills are just not as fun as they sound. We couldn't possibly all get on beta and test 100% of our skills out either.

Considering how much planning ahead I did for my character I can't imagine how someone who didn't have that chance must feel.

The tag on the title is a good idea.

As for the "first respec free" idea, it can't hurt I guess. And I think it's better than the alternatives (choosing which point to respec or cheaper respec, or scaling prices).

I agree OP as it is now my first respec cost me 2700g and i had about 300g left...barely enough for repairs..its taken me almost two days to scrape my money back.

The game needs more money early or lower respec costs..

My first respec was 7,000g (out of the 10k~ish I had). I don't even want to know what it would be now that I'm almost lvl50.

I keep trying out new moves in the Templar/2H trees only to find that I don't like them. And that Hireling...he's getting fired.

Couldn't agree more, especially since the first time I encountered a respec shrine on my first character in his early teens, respec was going to cost me more money than I had saved up. I wasted so many points getting him figured out, and was really disappointed to see this.

I've since re-rolled and am happy with my character for the most part (different class, more focus in my build), but I'd still like to move a couple points around. Sadly, I can't do this without refunding ALL of them which adds up to larger costs the longer I wait to do it. I can't justify the expense while dropping thousands of gold on bank and bag space that I can't seem to get enough of in this game.

I found the easiest way of living with poor choices for the time being was to get the sky shards add-on and hunt them all down instead of relying on exploration since I was still missing out on many of them. It takes the fun out of discovering them, but it's the price I'm paying to feel better about spending skill points.

They didn't want respecs in the game all at first, can you image that? So they turned it into a money drain.

I've never played ES before, so this game was new to me. I didn't put too much thoughts into spending the points until I got used to my character. Other MMO's have at least a couple free respecs so I was really shocked when I read about the costs for a respec in ESO.

It should be free for the first time around lvl 10 and then even free for the second time around lvl 25. After that I would be ok paying for it.

Everything here is so expensive, let alone the repairs and the soul gems, it's crazy. I'm lvl 12 now and never managed to have more than 800-1000 gold.

And no, I don't have time to play all day to do some gold farming, I have a real life. :)

Yea for a game that prizes the ability to try out different builds it seems rebuilding cost is excessive. If I want to change from a restostaff/destrostaff to restostaff/S&B then the main cost should be that I have to start over skilling a new line. There should be SOME gold cost but this is way too much. Either let us take back individual points or cut the cost by like 66%.
  • niocwy
    niocwy

It's not that expensive, 100g per point is the right price IMHO.

The only thing that should change is the price of the first respec, which should be free. It allows new player to test a few things, see where they want to go with their character, make a build skeleton, and then respec and follow it. After that, you'll have more than enough skill points to enable you to make a few mistakes, and move on. Llater when you'll be bathing in gold you'll be able to fix thoses mistakes.

Well, you could argue that the price is too high...or you could just stop using your gold to buy things from venders(Like armor and weapons) and save your money for this, or create a new character...this isn't Warcraft and will never be like Warcraft

Since it seems they are using this free month as beta / stress testing we should also have the same right when it comes to our skill points. I agree with this post - free re-specs throughout your free month of play. Not sure that I should be held accountable for my actions in creating my character when they are not when it comes to developing a stable game.

Is the cost per point really that bad? At lower levels its damn cheap, my last respec was 12k at vr1, never had a monetary issue at low levels as well, sounds to me like a money management issue, you don't need to replace your entire outfit every level.

How about a 'rare' respec scroll drop. Making them level dependent like soul-shards would be a good idea as well, eg 1-9 resets up to 10, 10-19 resets 20 and so on or something along those similar lines.
