The Liberation of Northpoint - bugged for days.

Yep, I'm there right now, we tried to wait far away (sadly often with people running right past us and into the GY), can't reset it, tried multiple log out, different times, etc. Nothing. I love how it stops us from totally progressing on the main quest line.

Always some people running in, waiting around, sitting afk for 10 minutes wondering what is going on.

And it's been bugging since April? It's more important to release new content and ignore people who won't even be able to actually reach it? come on... stop making new stuff and make the current working fine first...

Yup, bugged for me too, been trying for half the night alongside many others, tried leaving and returning, logging out etc, doesn't work Zenimax.

The quest is broken.

Why is this quest still bugged or bugged again? It is a required quest for all players.

What is it about this quest that it is still broken after all of these weeks or is so fragile that it constantly breaks?

@ZOS_JessicaFolsom Can this quest be hot fixed or can a GM venture here and reset it? It is broken for all three factions (level 30 for DC, VR3 for EP and VR8 for AD).

So here is the advice from customer support regarding this issue


For the quest "Liberation of Northpoint", if you have not done so already please report the issue with /bug. In the meantime, try the following steps as a workaround:

Complete all of the quests in your journal except Liberation of Northpoint

Find the NPC you get the quest from.

Abandon Liberation of Northpoint.

Exit the game and launcher completely for at least 15 minutes. This causes the character instance information to reset and allows the game to run properly.

Log back in and pick the quest back up and complete it!


If you are still unable to interact with Darien Gautier, try these additional steps:

Leave the graveyard.
Log out.
Log in.
Attempt the event again.

I tried it today (abandoned all of my quests because I just had fighters/mage guild stuff). Logged out. Waited an hour. Came back. Did Northpoint.

Still bugged. In fact, this solution makes no sense to me. It's a "event" that has to run. It's not dependent on my quest. It's dependent on the NPC being able to start his event when I run up, which isn't happening.

I WANT a workaround, so I really want this to work. If it works for someone PLEASE post and let us know. Maybe I did it wrong.

I chatted with a GM for like an hour today, and he was pleasant and helpful. But also had no solutions. Kind of frustrating to find out that yes, no GM's can "force push" my quest forward (which other MMO's can do to help when its THEIR fault that I'm unable to progress and thus nothing to do). They literally seem to not have that ability in their tools. In fact, he could not interact with me at all because all GM's are basically just flying versions of characters but with no master control over phases. So for Northpoint, he couldn't see the graveyard how it is in my phase (zombies, etc). Not at all. Which seems crazy to me for a game that is live. That seems to be neutering their ability to help, I think.

Also kind of a weird thing. He said we should try grouping with someone who has completed the quest and port to their phase. And then that somehow would change our status to complete on the quest. This did not work. And I couldn't figure out how it would work anyway. Really, the only way I could see that working is if I found someone who had the quest complete but did not turn it in yet. That maybe would have done it.

Also, while I was really really happy to get a GM to actually chat with me using the in game chat (and not the clunky "don't exit this screen" chat window), and I was really happy to see he spoke my language well and was fluent and trying to be helpful, it was just really made clear to me that the actual tools available to administrators really don't seem very developed. As I said above, the fact they are not able to do two things really blows my mind (because both would solve my problem, which has stopped my game play for 2 days and made me aggravated). These aren't quotes. Just me paraphrasing.

1 - "Can you just nudge my quest progression along? I do not care. I just need to be able to progress." "No I cannot. Really its kind of like cheating." I disagree with this. I can't tell you how many times it was helpful in WoW to have a GM come in and go "Yep let me investigate. Okay, yeah, its busted. Here. Now you can move to the next step." Yes, you are depriving me of the Darien fight. But its not MY fault that I can't even get it started. I just want to continue.

2 - "Can you port me to a phase where it IS working?" "No. Can't do that because I cannot really jump between servers easily to test it. In fact, I cannot even see you in this phase because my character is basically like as if I never finished the tutorial (for real BTW). I can't even use the gates there. I can't use the secret tunnel either. Because my guy has never talked to Skorm and all that." Which sounds crazy to me. This game is heavily dependent on phases. All of Northpoint is basically 2 different phases, with little mini-phases in them! And the whole game is that way. GM's should be able to transcend that stuff to help actually SEE the problem easily and then if needed maybe even help push the player to a position that can help.

At one point I was told that "You know, I wanted to play GTA5 and it was busted and so I couldn't play the part I wanted to play for a month," or something to that affect. I quickly reminded them that A) Rockstar gave concessions for a LONG time after that to make up for the blunder and I hope that happens here because on top of that (B) unlike GTA5 I am paying $15 per month. $30 if I count the rest of my family.

Before this helpful and polite person came on board to help me, the previous advice I got was "You could go to Cyrodil to PVP." After eventually running out of options even with the helpful GM, I just said, "Screw it. I've finished everything in this zone. I will go to Cyrodil and try that." You know what happened? The 2nd quest there (the siege weapons) was bugged.

So now officially I am blocked everywhere. Which kind of is insulting considering going to PVP was their immediate solution. I'm ripping my hair out over this a bit. I am trying to be nice. I was very polite to the GM that helped me. But holy crap man. After all of that, I just about blew up when I fired siege weapons for 15 minutes and none of the targets counted. I literally cannot progress the PVP training quests either.

There is something up. Between the resurgence of Molag Bol errors, this Liberation error, the Siege Weapons Training error-- this game is REALLY broken this week.

I wish they'd just restart the servers right now. So at least maybe these quests work for a few hours. Because my hunch is we won't get an emergency patch for another 24 hours at least.

ZOS shows many tell-tale signs of a defunct organization under extreme stress. I know nothing of what happens inside the company, but from the outside it looks as if they may not have an organization fit to handle a project of this magnitude. Their problems seem to run a lot deeper than just bugs in their software.

I hope they can overcome this.

I do too. I really love the game and I want to support ANY company that makes something as detailed and lovely as this game.

And at the same time, I do read these boards a lot and I do think there is quite a lot of posting here that is trolling and not helpful.

But I also do have a hard time thinking of an MMO I've played after launch that was perpetually blocked so frequently. Every MMO has bugs. But honestly, I haven't had this hard of a time just getting a crappy workaround. The tools should be in place to provide emergency help so that gameplay can continue.

That, to me, is the real problem here. I'm not upset that bugs exist. I'm upset that my game experience really is blocked, and its not like a bonus achievement or anything, but that nobody on staff seems to be able to just nudge me forward or help me bypass the problem.

This IS an emergency problem (in the pyramid of game problems), just like the Molag Bol problem. And to me both of these things should have band-aid emergency solutions in place just to allow gameplay to continue for those who want it, while the game gets its real stability built in.

My worst fear with this situation is that the game will be basically blocked for me until like next Wednesday. That should not happen in a subscription game ever. Bugs happen. Waiting for fixes happens. But not being able to just proceed is kind of lame. Normally the only time I have to deal with that is because of things I have control over (PC problems, configuration problems, etc). Tinges of regret for JUST paying my subscription fees this week wouldn't happen if I could count on a polite discussion with a GM that results in a workaround because, well, it wasn't MY fault that the product I purchased has no emergency workarounds in place for GMs to utilize. I should be able to at least be able to discuss things pragmatically with a GM and get a bypass route.

It's tragically funny, if not ironic, that the rep doesn't consider the game being broken as a form of cheating or fraud from either ZOS or the game because that is exactly what a bug like this is.

If a particular stage of a quest is broken shouldn't it be taken out or changed (like you just have to talk to NPC) until it is working properly? It's been broken since early access.

Topic title should be changed from "for days" to "for months" now...

You can continue main quest line in Alik'r Desert. Go to Wayrest talk to Zhilijdel at the dock to get ship. Even though mobs are 31-32 when you land they are as easy to kill as in Rivenspire, I'm 29 Templar. Look around for missed quests if you aren't this level or do dungeon runs. Looks like they are doing a Darien fix. I took a swim around the whole north coast only saw one other person and got 3 blues a heap of greens off mobs and chests plus did a couple of dungeons and levelled up.

More than that is needed. You also need to determine why and how this previously broken then fixed and now broken again quest reached its current state. Once that problem is solved, you can apply the same fix elsewhere and prevent the problem from occurring again in the future. Given this quest's track record and the regression rate of the game, it is only a matter of time (probably less than a month) before the quest breaks again after you fix it this time.

It's not so much a big deal at 1-50 with this quest bugged, it's if you do it at veteran ranks - This and it's successor quest line are required to move on to your third faction. Eventually getting fixed is not an option, need it done ASAP.
Also that workaround doesn't work anymore, haven't heard from anyone who's been as to finish it.
