Update: I dunno why everyone's defending this and lecturing me about this. I should get what I previewed, period. That should be the end of it.
Yes I know it's not a real mount. Yes I know mount upgrades don't 'work' on it. That is NOT what I am saying. I am strictly speaking about the ANIMATION. it is MISLEADING and NOT WHAT WAS PREVIEWED.

This was sorely disappointing and I wish I could get a refund.

I bought the stick horse thinking it'd be fun to ride on my Ring of the Wild Hunt crafter character as she dashes around and farms nodes, but then I discovered.... She doesn't even ride it at high speeds. She just holds it off to the side like a staff (not between her legs) and sprints. That's so disappointing.

The previews was also misleading, cause the run showed you riding it, and at no point in any preview does it show you NOT riding it.

You can acquire a scribing ability that lets you launch your horse and if it is Stick Horse it will run very fast and smash into your enemies

It's not about that, it's about the misleading animation. I know it's a joke mount, that's why I bought it. But not just so my character holds it like a staff at their side and runs. I wanted them to actually 'ride' it like shown in the preview animations.

They do... if you go at a normal mount speed.

If you have the mount speed passives, then you're over the "ride on it" threshold and are at the "run holding it" speed. Try removing those passives, or even just RP walking while riding it and it will work.

Yes but it's misleading because the previews did not show this 'not riding' animation and it defeats the whole point...
I wanted to go fast on it BECAUSE my character has max run speed already.

Didn't the previews used to show sprint? I didn't realize that they removed the sprint preview from the mounts in the crown store. They definitely need to add that back in as some mounts do have a different animation for sprint than run.

The mount animation looks different in the crown store specifically because the removed the sprint preview for all mounts. It has nothing to do with the stick mount being a joke. You carry in on your back specifically when going so fast that your mount is considered sprinting (I guess regardless if you're actually pressing down sprint or not).

I paid real money for it, I should get what I paid for, joke or not. OR have the option to refund (which is not the case)

If you are unhappy with a crown store purchase, you could submit a ticket and ask if they could refund your crowns.

Oh god, that defeats the purpose. I was going to buy this for gold from someone at some point in the future but my wild hunt build is maxed out 200% walking speed which means this would probably break... Sad that's how it functions...

Yeah I don't really get it why it cannot be functional. Sure, a joke, but it still is under mounts and will be occasionally selected if you use the random mount option. If it cannot be made into a functional mount, can it be at least excluded from the random mount?

But I do use that on my meme tank build. Funny with the trample skill.

I think there also needs to be Gallop speed for mount preview (so Walk, Run, Gallop). In case of such mount, regular Run preview doesn't show the right moves I agree that running on your feet with the Stick Horse resting on your shoulder is not very amusing, compared to Walk/Run animations with it.

I don't buy Stick mounts because they don't function like "real" transportation. But I find the Run animation very smooth and cute, especially on Argonians with that tail movement If such thing could be "normal" mount and use those moves when Sprinting, I would buy it!

There is no good reason the stick mounts shouldn't work like a normal mount. It's absurd, and a lot have people have wound up feeling tricked, frustrated, &/or disappointed after buying them because they missed the fine print. A bunch of people don't buy them at all because they DID read the fine print, and a crippled "mount" in a video game is worthless to them - but they would have spent money if it actually worked. Because it's goofy and fun.

This game allows you to attack people with fish and ham "weapons" (RE: Jester's Feast Arms Pack) while wearing nothing but a towel (RE: Nordic Bather's Towel) and a bucket on your head (RE: Bucket Armor Style Page) soup pot as a Hat Collectible on your head (RE: Cadwell's Helm of Heroism). The fact that the stick mounts are "silly" or "immersion-breaking" is 100% irrelevant - we crossed that Rubicon long ago.

ALL THAT SAID: I still, personally, wind up using them pretty often for decorating - prize carts, kid's rooms, etc. Although it's MADDENING that they don't work as mounts, but still take the special (and extremely limited!) mounts/pets/guests slots.

Please just upgrade them to be regular mounts. Or at the very very least: re-tag them for housing. Having the worst of all possible mechanics stacked into one really REALLY sucks on a paid cash shop item.

EDIT: b/c technically I don't think the bucket would stack with the towel costume - but thankfully there's no shortage of absurdity in ESO!

Additionally I also wish this worked like a regular mount.

It is ok to admit you are simply mistaken …. Which YOU are.

Preview shows RUN, accurately. Preview has no option to show MAX SPRINT, which you think is what RUN shows.

If you RUN, it looks exactly the same as in preview. If you SPRINT, stick is on your shoulder.

Because if your character moves fast enough, they just hold it to their side, on their shoulder and sprint 'normally' (still goofy, but they're not 'riding' the stick horse)

THAT is my problem and I feel like everyone is purposely ignoring that and lecturing me about how it doesn't work like a proper mount and it shouldn't because then everyone would use it and yada yada-WHEN THAT ISN'T EVEN MY PROBLEM.

I am so frustrated with this and everyone lecturing me about the dang red text is just making it worse.

Yes, and the sprint is not previewed, which is false advertising...

How can I be mistaken when the shop simply DOES NOT SHOW the animation at all? I was misled, not mistaken. Also my character moves so fast that they are always 'sprinting' even when not hitting shift.

I was however mistaken that anyone on this forum gives a frick and would rather just use this as a way to make themselves feel better, smarter, and crap.

The running animation shown in the preview shows up when you toggle your character to run, without any speedbuffs applied (like the Green CP for example). It worked for me when I was testing it out earlier, I was running around like the preview showed and holding down the sprint key made my character hold the stick horse in his left hand (I've had the mount for years and nothing has changed about it).

@ZOS Can someone just close this thread, because everyone seems determined to just misunderstand and make me feel worse, and a refund isn't possible anyway.

I agree with OP. The whole purpose of a toy horse is to pretend to ride it. Otherwise you look like a goblin running around with a decapitated horse trophy. I also stopped using the toy horse mount after I saw the animation. I think I got it back when you couldn't preview animations either, so that was a big disappointment

I appreciate that someone finally gets it. And yeah even with the animation previews we have now, it still never shows that goblin with horse head run.
