Dev Team Request: A Top 5 List of Bugs and Pain Points You Would Like Addressed

  • dale_forrestb16_ESO
Top Bugs/Issues (in no particular order)

    - doors and objects unactionable after combat without dodge rolling
    - Cyrodiil performance
    - queue bugs (for Dungeons, etc.)
    - stuck in combat bugs
    - database back-end upgrade, less maintenance

Top Pain Points (in no particular order)

    - companions: we are allowed to set their interactions to minimal. i would like to mute them (eg. set the setting to none). i'm not interested in hearing them say the same things again and again.
    - surveys: please provide a way to refresh surveys while we are standing at the location so we do not have to run away and then come back when we have multiples
    - skill scribing system: please save scribed skills along with everything else that is saved with the armory system
    - psyijic order and scribing: make them account bound. for example: i do not want to rerun the skill scribing quests for all of my toons, it's boring. it would be reasonable to complete the FIRST PART intro quests on second, third, etc. characters and have that unlock the rest if another character has completed it already

    - long maintenance

Forced perspective when mounted, crafting, opening inventory and/or conatiners in the inventrory (insane camera jumps or flights and very immersion breaking). This is GamepadUI. Please add a switch to the settings

Glowing weapon flares in first person. Some sets and Monstersets have to strong visuals in 1st person. Please add a switch in the settings to dsiable them. Since there is a native skill timer availabe there is no need for visual feedback.

Lorebreakers and neon-stuff in towns. Molag Bal and an anchor in Alinor? Really ? And the guards dont care but kill Werewolves, Vampires and Criminals ? Mounts not even the most powerful NPC Mages possess ? Please add a switch in the settings like the switch to reduce companions and pets.

Inflation of the red. I feel like it gets worse and worse with insane red ground damage motion bingo. Not talking asbout dungeons and raids.

Difficulty seems to be drunken and notlinear. Some world bosses and group events in public dungens are out of sane. Armor switching is the wrong approach in the soloable Tamriel-verse. And i only mean the singleplayer content. Not dungeons and raids.

And a 6th. Waaaaay moooore xp for the civil Cyrodil town dailies. Not the war dailies from the basecamp. For an average player it is almost impossible to reach 50, the dyes and the skill points. It means noting in PvP what level you are. So the quest from Vlast etc. should be half a level at 40.

And a 7th. Crossplay or plattform swap tocken at a reasonable price in the shop please. I want to play my 10 years PC main on the XBox.

This is seemingly a small thing, but could we please have the option of abandoning the Main Quest? It takes up room (yes, I know, only one slot), the Prophet is a bit pushy, and I really don't want to do the quest over and over because of alts.

    Only one urgent request:

Please provide a PC Launcher that works, and especially deal with the 'unable to load skin' bug
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/674955/summary-unable-to-load-skin-error#latest

This is a serious one because not only the launcher can start if already installed (there is only the 'enter key' trick as a workaround currently), but also some players are just unable to install or reinstall the game !

For STEAM users, the initial step works (downloading the files), but after that the installation can't be finished because it's trying to execute a setup file, which fails. It seems that the launcher is unzipped from this setup file, but then fails to launch because of the bug.

Moreover, the bug affects also the ESO installer that can be downloaded from the user account for those not using STEAM.

Some other games are using a launcher and are not affected by this bug (for instance Wittcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, ...). Then it should be possible to have a functional launcher.

Clearly, after reading many reports by players, the issue is very common for players having an Intel Core i9 and W11 24H2 (no problem for me when I was using W11 23H2).
Microsoft owns ZOS, so please work with them and Intel to solve the problem.
Many clues are given in this discussion:
    https://forums.elderscrollsonline.com/en/discussion/674955/summary-unable-to-load-skin-error#latest
It seems that there is something with energy saving functions of both Core i9 and W11 24H2, including Intel Speedtest and Speedshift functions of Core i9.

The 'enter key' trick consists just in spamming the server very fast with launcher launch requests, and it works generally after 1 or 2 seconds. Then there could be something to change in the server parameters, maybe some temporization of timeout.
The fact is the exe (launcher or installer) is unable to contact your server.
But once again this trick works with an installed launcher.

There is no solution for STEAM initial installation or for the failure of the official ESO installer.

Is part 3 of this Q&A still going to be delivered? It's been 7 months now, and we were last told on April 21st that it was still in the works.

The longer I play the more I realize how badly we need a “mute player character combat voice” the constant repetitive shouting and grunting is real bad. Especially with 2h weapons and dual wield I sometimes find the only option is basically to play with the game entirely muted.

My biggest thing are the bots and people who bot. Is there someway to implement a system that would inhibit their ability to get restarted if one of their bot accounts gets banned?

Like have a system where a player need to go through a tutorial system to earn tools to start harvesting nodes. Something long and painful for a botter, but midly inconvenient for a player. That could also be informative as a tutorial for new players. Like crafting certifications to do the crafting writs, but for harvesting and "skinning" beasts for their hide. It would be a total overhaul of the system, I know, but it would extremely be a pain for botters.

Like to start the quests, you get harassed by a person each time you enter a town or something. Much like what Stuuga would do to you way back when. And you'd have to be level 10 to start harvesting nodes. Again, that sounds like an inconvenience to players but it's not. It would require the botters to level hundreds, if not thousands of accounts and then complete a tedious quest to even start a fresh bot account.

And you'd have to do the whole chain of gathering quests to get the tools, you can't just stop on the quest for say mining. And that this system would have to be a character collection book type of thing, so there wouldn't be a grandfather system. Much like what writ certifications are. That would mildly inconvenience players for a day, I understand this, but not as much as the botters. As they'd have to level to 10 to get access to crafting/gathering, and then do said quests. It would be a whole tutorial, as ESO doesn't really have a tutorial for crafting. You could have newer players learn about the system. Have them craft a basic item, make a one trait crafting set, like make the trainee set craftable, at one trait. So they can learn about traits and researching gear. Have them craft that set. With a free trait scroll to auto research a trait for the quest. And for players that have already done every trait prior to the new questline, have them complete that portion of the quest or option to skip the quest altogether like what you can do with the writ certifications. And make the writ certs this new crafting quest as well. So for botters, they'd have to level their bots to 10, do a tedious harvesting quest, and then a tedious crafting certification, on every character. So it would severley inhibit their ability to reset. And if they do, they get reported and or hit by some type of bot detection laid out below.

And a seperate thing, actual bot detection. If someone is repeating the same actions over and over, or say farming in a zone or public dugeon/delve, they get whisked away by say Sheogorath or some other daedra prince, to do an easy task, but if its a bot, it stops them. And then log everyone who gets teleported there for an account review, and if it's a low level nothing done bot. Ban it. But then also reward the players for completing the task with special armor/weapon style pages, or some other thing. It could be anything to killing an easy 200k health boss, or doing a quick and easy puzzle, Etc. And then give the player a mail item when they leave. You can also teleport out after a 20sec or so cooldown, but without the reward.

im not sure introducting "mild inconvenience" is a good way to keep the player base on site

its not hard to run a couple of SQL queries to find stuff like this out

select * from characters where nodes collected today > 1000 (or whatever abitrary figure you come up with thats reasonable)

then use that to do a deeper dive into whether the account is a bot or a collector due to its actions. clue - the character name will be abcded010103903293920 or something like that

    Anyway.

    to keep on topic
    1) Rush of agony. even the U47 updates dont go far enough
    2) combat bug in pvp
    3) people firing 9 skills in <1 second and killing you before you even know where theyre coming from .
    4) lag + performance
    5) see 1-4

    Top Bugs/Issues
Bug 1 - In a few areas, my character loses the ability to collect certain types of resources (sent feed back about this with details.)
Bug 2 - Gear sets are not respecting number in sets. I have to unequip and equip the amor, weapons, and jewelry before the total of the items is respected. (4 from a set worn, set does not provide perks until unequipping happens)
Bug 3 - Some of the items in the house furnishing inventory are not respecting classifications in the vault. Mostly, the craft stations are not all being listed under the station label
Bug 4 -- In some areas, the vampire area and the area north of that of Cold harbor, and a few areas of other maps, (Craglorn and West Weald recently) my group member and I are at the same location but cannot see one-another. (group of two being split into instances perhaps)
Bug 5 -- Some of the foes in dungeons or quest areas are duplicated. Two of the very same NPC are occupying the same space so when one is killed and undamaged copy is standing in the location as if you did not kill the foe.

    Top Pain Points
Pain Point 1 -- Having gold gear placed behind group play
Pain Point 2 -- Having to wait for respawns in delves and public dungeons
Pain Point 3 -- Having the adventure guide for a map stop on a group play location. I do not play in groups so it ends the guide use for me.
Pain Point 4 -- NPC chasing me across the map just to hit me once and runaway because I ignored them at some point. (Seriously, I didn't see them and didn't realize the were demanding a fight.)
Pain Point 5 -- Being one-hit repeatedly in PvP. Love PvP play but I am not going to repeatedly sacrifice myself to a spawn-camper or a newb killer. PvP needs seriously balance.
Pain Point 6 -- Having a CP 1k+ run through a play area to agro ALL the foes in the field and AOE them to death leaving the quest field empty.
Pain Point 7 -- Not finding Nirncrux resources or gear drops in Craglorn

I have played a long time. I have many pain points and only a few bugs. But the paint points are difficult as they cause me to not want to play.
Edit: If self-healing is nerfed . . . I am leaving this game. My solo build has already been nerfed near to its death.

Certain Major Adornments/Minor Adornments/baubles on Hairstyles change color based on the characters base hair color.

Could you add a Barber NPC that lets you change your base hair color without the need to spend character change tokens to tweak/restore the looks of those cosmetics? (annoying that the pictures don't depict the cosmetic correctly/that colors change if you change hair color).

For real, it is 2025 and we still cant change hair color without paying $25. Oops went vampire for a build.....now I have to spend $25 so the hair doesnt look terrible.......Oops i forgot vampire is terrible in combat so gotta pay $25 again. Hmm I want to dye my outfit this color.....Oh now my character's appearance doesn't match because of a weird glitch.....$25

Anyways here are my top 5 issues with extended explanations from a 2014 Veteran player primarily PvP focused. Spent the first 5 years of the game running a training guild for new players under lvl50 and then solo/duo 1vX in my spare time.
    1. Cyrodil as a whole is dysfunctional
      • Performance - In any software after years of many different people pulling apart and stitching code you will have issues. However this is not just at the coding level, but at every level. Animations are 10x flashier, there are 10x the particle effects, sets and items do 10x more effects with paragraph tooltips. To cut it short, the game is too bloated and not concise to any degree. I will talk more on this in the combat direction portion.
      • Solo vs Group misdirection - A major issue is that early on zos got scared of 1vX players being too popular and they strive to shut down any mechanics that let players hold their own. What do you think happens to the solo and small man NEW PLAYER population when they can't play anymore? The game has now flopped the other way to the point where players are rewarded for grouping. Take a look at sets like Rallying cry, where for a 10 man group this one set bonus becomes worth 10 set bonuses. For a solo player it is only worth 2 set bonuses.......This exponentially raises the playing field in favor of groups. On top of having more players, now they have more stats
      • The cyrodil map - Its been 10 years, feel free to change it around. Make up some lore reason or something. Give us more paths to fight on instead of just allessia bridge or ash gate. You could incentivize players to go outward from the emp ring by using the towns and outer outposts to make new transit lines through the middle gates or bridges.
      • Campaign rules - Currently the winning faction GAINS combat bonuses. Originally this was intended with the full launch player capacity of 4x the playerbase. If one faction was winning, there would be two factions to oppose them. However this rule only works while the campaign is POP LOCKED. Under LVL 50 and NOCP campaigns both died because one faction would have more players and flip the whole map while being super humans. This causes NEW PLAYERS to give up and leave pvp. Ive seen entire guilds disband in discords and leave the game because another guild would just log on late at night and flip the map unopposed. The following day you would have to ALWAYS fight an uphill battle to retake the map against enemies that have stat bonuses and emperor.
      • Campaign rewards - Rewards for the worthy is a joke. Half the sets have been gutted and are not viable. The only thing worth it is Rallying cry, but everyone already has this. Campaign rewards also used to be worth more by giving golden mats and arena weapons. Perhaps think about making mythic leads drop.
    2. BGs are barely tolerable
      • MMR resetting is driving the issue where 10 year veteran pvp players are going 40/0 against brand new players
      • The spawn zones drastically disadvantage the losing team. It would be better to make the spawns level with the ground and have a one way wall. This way losing teams can regroup and push together without being hit for 2-3s while falling into shark infested waters one by one.
      • Too many Ques, on PCNA you literally need an addon to que up for all four of the ques at once, otherwise your wait time for matches can be 4x as long
      • Certain game modes end to quickly because they are not time based, they end based on the objective which can be abused for dailies to ignore pvping.
    3. Combat direction has no direction
      • Important Core mechanics such as ultimates and stuns, snares, roots, etc have taken a back seat in terms of clarity. The old original combat teams made it very clear what IMPORTANT effects were GOING to hit your character and which ones DID hit your character. Currently there are far too many bloated effects and animations that are draining the server of resources that are just not important.
      • Group sets - Are cool in pve for progression, granted they turn people into buff slaves instead of letting them solo fill a role. In pvp these quite literally decimate the casual playerbase and anyone not running a coordinated 12 man group. If you have a 10 man group running generic set bonuses they are worth 10 people. Now if you have 10 people running group sets that buff each other, they suddenly become worth 100 people......and we wonder why the server is lagging.
      • PvP rulesets for combat - There used to be built in concepts to shut down meta abuse. For instance, effects not stacking would prevent one proc set or effect skill from becoming abused. A proc or dot or hot may be strong in a 1v1, but if it wont stack it will never exponentially be abused in combat in group play.....To the same degree if one skill or hot isn't the strongest in the game, we will not see group combat spamming the most effect heavy stat dense skill in the game........and we wonder why the server is lagging.
      • Merciless resolve simply is game breaking. Why doesnt it follow the same tooltip standard as other timed or delayed burst skills like Frags, curse, blastbones, deep fissure. Instead it has 25% more damage than all of these and can be fired back to back. It quite literally has 25% more damage than dawnbreaker. I think take flight is the only single source of damage that beats it.....but take flight is an ultimate that can only be used every 30s not every 5s.
      • Many skills are losing their main uniqueness in favor of fitting one generic playstyle. I don't know if it is dev short sighted-ness or more like being in an echo chamber, but things like old dizzy swing having a long cast time with a hard hitting reward was far more interesting than a sped up low damage generic skill. Look at old school sword and shield bash/block weaving, now adays reverb and puncture do so little damage you can't make it worth it.
    4. Subclassing skill line woes
      • The sudden jump in class passives that can stack are an immediate issue. For instance in pvp you realistically can get enough crit resist to mitigate 40-50% crit damage. However with subclassing everyone is getting another 20-25% crit damage and have way more access to crit chance bonuses. Combined with the new Pay2win mythic and suddenly most PvP builds are upwards of 125%-175% crit damage.
      • Subclassing has also forced people who have been playing a character for 10 years to give up on their character and have to grind another character. Many players are just giving up entirely. It would have been better to transition the game to a ONE CHARACTER concept where you dissolve the class system entirely and just freely let people pick class skill lines.
      • Skill lines were not setup for subclassing balance wise. Because certain skill lines were previously designed to be the entirety of a class's damage, now you have no reason to choose the skill lines that were a healthy balance of dmg, tank, heals.
    5. General QoL, the game is a chore to play instead of fun
      • Why are there so many dailies? Next level is why do dailies require multiple characters? Do I really need to spend 3 hours of my day logging in and out in load screens? Is this supposed to sound fun for new players?
      • The modern day gaming playerbase consists of 3 main groups: You have the young fortnite group with 0 attention span, then the middle age college+ group who has only about 2-3 hours a couple days a week, then you have the older group. If you do not transition to be remotely enjoyable for the younger or middle age crowd that wants GAMEPLAY instead of chores, the game will slowly die out as it has been for years.
      • Overland being too easy is a perfect example. There are 46+ zones with hours of quests, bosses, places to explore. I have been paying for for 10 years and its been too boring to do ever since around the 2015 era. Hearing statements from team on stream saying the game is too hard for new players is a crazy. Why did elden ring get game of the year? Why is it 5x the eso playerbase? It has fun difficult and rewarding GAMEPLAY. It has tons of content that is WORTH doing.

    Pain Points:

    1. Antiquities and Leads – The codex and beyond:
The multiple layers of RNG over some leads and the lack of lead curation is absolutely the most HATED grind to so many players. The lack of curation for sources that have multiple leads and the fact that many leads are tied to items that already have their own RNG is quite possibly evil (read: Treasure Maps, we are looking at you!).
Find new sources, creatures, or even trees to shake, but please for the love of this game, STOP adding leads to items that do not have a consistent drop source as it is!

Many codices are painfully incomplete, namely because of the aforementioned problem.
Many antiquities are not purchasable on their Local Housing / Achievement Vendor.

Bonus Loot should be curated[/b][/b] to always reward the missing Furnishing Plans as intended from Bonus Loot. We work quite hard to open / find all the bonus loot, but being rewarded a Rubedite Axe is not our idea of a reward in this case. And this circles back to the problem above with said Leads coming from Treasure Chests which come from Maps that are so inconsistently found… See what we are getting at?

Anyway, this curation should work for those of us who actually eat (learn) the Furnishing Plans. If it is already known, the RNG can certainly kick in again.

    2. Grand Master Crafting Stations:
These are still Bind on Pickup. But if they must continue to be bound, why can they not just be ‘Collected’ and placeable in multiple homes? We worked so hard to get them, with the 80k+ Writ Vouchers and running the lengths of Tamriel to attune all the stations. Make these Collectibles. (They cannot be sold or traded anyway).

    3. Housing and Furnishings – Must it still be the ‘Real End Game’:
Furniture materials required for furniture crafting is still somewhat prohibitive. The low drop rate or the high volume required to craft furniture is unstainable. Furnishing materials were still not added to Surveys, nor do they have their own surveys.

Furnishing plans have never been curated. I understand that this is a huge money-maker as well as a great strategy to take millions of Septims out of the economy. So how about a Furnishing Plan Curation Opt-In?? I would opt-in to that because I have personally not made more than a few thousands of gold pieces off of plans… Because I use them. I can count how many times I have found a rare drop twice. It is exactly zero. And I have been looting urns (and all manner of container / mob / zone / et al.) and searching for the same 12 rare plans since 2019. (btw, I still haven’t found them).

Each new Update brings a number of new furnishing plans that are added to the already over 3000+ plans in game. New release plans do not seem to be ‘weighted’ against ancient plans that came out with Homestead, which was release in February of 2017.

Please: Allow for an Opt-In Furnishing Plan Curation… The zone that should drop the plan

    4. Why does the listing fee not go to the guild?
Someone previously mentioned this and I will add it to my list.
We spend thousands of gold to list items in guild traders. It would certainly be fair for our guilds to receive the gold spent listing items in that guild trader. This still takes the money out of the economy and gives a much-needed break from the constant Fundraising to pay for Traders, which many can agree is extremely expensive.

    5. Fashion and Style:
The tunic loincloths and hip tassets needs to be removed. Perhaps ‘longer’ tunics would be better. Add tassets to a line of Belts and Girdles if you must. Then we can choose NOT to select those.

Shoes… just plain shoes without toes. Some places have winter or inclement weather. We do not wear sandals there. But we do not always wear boots in the summer areas either. Many leggings look different when not tucked into boots. Our kingdoms for simple shoes (that do not look like they are worn solely by orcs and goblins either.)

And please, figure out a way to have pants look normal on a female character without the ‘center seam’ splitting us in two. It is neither natural nor comfortable.

Bring the Barbers Guild to Tamriel. We just need someone to dye our hair or age our face or trim our beard. We should not need to spend the same cost of a Character Change Token for this. Barbers have united and have put in a permit petition for Tamriel shop allowance. Let them in!

Thank you so much in advance. It took a long time to think of what would be MOST important to me. There really are many more things, but they have been said and reiterated by so many brilliant players on the 20+ pages of posts before mine.

I really do hope that these posts and thought-out issues are considered seriously.
Many have already started to show up in game, so we do believe you have the best intentions in how to use our ideas.

Uselessness of provisioning plans after outleveling them:

It'd kinda be nice if all foods/drinks scaled with your level, and not based on brackets (like some of the event provisioning plans). So if for instance you loved Venison you could use that if you so choose. A lot of them just seem pointless.

Don't know how XP would be handled though (my guess would be reducing green recipe XP, granting XP for learning Provisioning plans based on rarity, and granting much greater XP for Blue/Purple/Gold crafts).

    Bugs/issues

    1. Crafting defaulting to CP150 gear - this is very easy to miss and lots of people said they had the same problem when made a set of gold gear I had to remake.

    2. If you open the same treasure map twice in a row and the first chest is still there it doesn't spawn a second. (While I'm at it, it'd be nice if the game could save when you find a treasure location).

    3. Too often an excavation 'blows up' for no clear reason, like you dug too deep when you didn't

    4. Putting this in bugs since you want 5/5. ESO+ has the worst MMO trading system I know. You shouldn't have to go to a web site to look up where items are for sale. Putting aside needing addons for item valuation.

(I have a complicated situation where OneDrive appears to prevent addons from working also)

    5. For several years, I have had four guilds and the games says I have a fifth if there's an invite, when there isn't. Support has not been able to fix it.

    Irritating

    1. That annoying singing the same song in Alinor crafting every time for years. I now remove my sound every time I go there.
There are other things too repetitive also, like 'So you want a duel' every time also in Alinor.

    2. Excessive blocking off of map travel by hills etc. Sometimes I've had to spend I think over 15 minutes trying to get where I'm going as mountain ranges and such block it.

    3. Overland trash mobs are too much, give us a way to not have aggro against more of them. Trying to walk every few steps more annoying having to kill trash mobs.

    4. The problems with inventory to try to get people to buy ESO+ are excessive. I tend to spend over half my playing on inventory even WITH ESO+. Related: items from chests immediately going into inventory, unmarked, not sitting at the top as new items.

5.Quests that to complete require lying/deceiving.

One bonus issue: the game can use more variety in the game world; things are too 'cookie cutter' over years.

The sticky environment, never in any other Elder Scrolls game have I had to jump around like Mario just to avoid getting stuck on a pebble or blade of grass, we should just be able to navigate around the terrain without thinking about getting stuck on something and coming to a sudden halt! Our mounts can just step over a small fence why can our characters not step over a small rock, candle or anything else small out to stop us. I can accept wheelbarrow handles being a trap but not something small we should just step over automatically.

I just discovered that if you spend too much time crafting potions (ie trying to unlock alchemy traits) that you get booted from the server. That would be a nice thing to have fixed.

    Subclassing. Just remove it.

You weren’t ready to include something with the magnitude to change the game and player base like that did. It’s awful and my confidence in it ever being addressed could not be lower. Like - I have none. It’s been a good run.

Enjoy your netch hat - I guess?

    My concerns are just visual.

    1. The hair and the horses still look bad. Please hire someone different to make the hair! Also, you have the worst-looking horse models in any game. The painting/texturing is fine, it's the models themselves that are bad. Please make horses look like horses.

    That's really my only concern.

    Pain points

1- subclassing in PVP made the game unplayable. The maps are empty even at prime time.
1a- players now have the options to have infinite powerful heals huge burst potential and as can be imagined some players use it. I’ve seen wardens role dodge out of nearly being killed and have their health bar back to full strength only then to slam you down dawnbreaker, shalks and spec bow.

Or better yet just jab you to death with hurricane going on any sort of offence is simply met with dropping the Templar ground rune and cleanse boom straight back up to 100% health.

1b- do something to support pure class build players
