Yeah I feel after this major disappointment I can no longer trust them to prepurchase again...and of course without a heavy dose of content, I won't be supporting the game by purchasing crowns as much, and they can look at my in game account I am a "significant" supporter....or was.

This isn't because the game is getting old...it's because the devs are neglecting a game with a healthy active population.

    It's mind boggling

The map seems decently sized, but map size doesn't correlate with content. We have a new skill line, and it seems its going to be a grind to work on.

One thing partly driving this is the FOMO 2 player mount, which is apparently only available for a month, and only if you've done all the scribing quests.

Apparently players have become wise enough to realize that achievements in this game are even more meaningless than in other games like Guild Wars 2.

Meh, it was basically the same when Summerset came out.

It's not that they're abandoned, it's that the vast majority of players are busy farming Scribing instead of doing the new zone, and Scribing takes place outside of West Weald.

The same thing happened with the Psijic Questline when Summerset came out. Lots of people weren't doing much of the Summerset content because they were busy going from zone to zone grinding time portals.

so size matters suddenly even though the scaling in expansions is a little different. plus do any of the other expansions boast of 1000's of ways to modify your skills? B)

oh and isn't performance also supposed to be measurement. My frame rates and ping are steady for the first time in a couple years for an expansion release day and no stuck quests at this time. Yet some of you are still complaining. Even though, one of you already admitted you didn't have the expac in another thread. So how do you have anything to say about it in live when you don't have it? Come on. let's not be ridiculous over the top.

I don't think it's just the size/the amount of content in the zone that's the only problem.

We've gone from 4 DLCs a year - Q1 dungeons with quests that tie into the chapter's story, the Q2 Chapter, Q3 dungeons that again have quests that tie into the chapter and Q4's story, and of course a Q4 zone.

Last year we got Q1 dungeons, the Q2 chapter, Q3 was bug fixes and QOL updates, and Q4 was Infinite Archive.
This year we got Q1 dungeons, the Q2 chapter that feels more like the size of a Q4 zone, Q3 a housing update and Q4 a PvP update.

We're still waiting to see what the rest of the updates for the year actually add in terms of content, and both updates especially the PvP are much needed but compared to the past there has been a significant drop in both questing/overland content and dungeon content, there is now much less for the masses to do throughout the year, especially true now considering the reports that there isn't all that much to do in the zone compared to previous chapters (I'm yet to see this for myself as I play console and the update isn't out yet.)

For those saying this expansion is small and wanting, I wonder how long it took you to finish it? I mean, no one would come out saying the expansion is too small or other negatives comments in the same vein without first finishing it right? Since it's day one, I guess it would be very small to have y'all finish this fast. What did it take you? 4 hours? 6 hours? Were you speed running ... god I hope so ... or were you just taking your time? Thanks!

That read as very smug...but I'll play along...

I took my time and finished in under four and a half hours that is breaking for lunch... I have no interest in scribing , and the AI generated quest are boring... I know some folks who finished under two hours

I have a hard time believing that this came from Bill Slavicsek as this is the guy who wrote the Elsweyr expansion not to mention the myriad of excellent Dungeons & Dragons supplements over the years.

Defend ZoS all you want but this was a let down for most of us. With out a doubt the single worst expansion they have ever done, the story was hollow, pedantic... it more or less was a story that didn't need to be told.

Bottom line there is no excuse in the slashing of quality content they once produced...and honestly we should be able to express that if we are doing so in a respectful manner.

I have played casually for about six hours now. Done with the main quest. Done collecting the Saint Alessia deck pieces. Done unlocking every single wayshrine, defeated every world boss, completed every delve and public dungeon, collected every single skyshard.

It doesn't take a genius to figure out that, beyond short quests here and there, there's no more than four hours left of play here.

This was absolutely not worth a full-priced game. Good thing Gold Road was gifted to me, and I'm no longer an ESO Plus member, so I didn't lose money.

This is going to be my final observation...

This could have easily been a DLC...in fact Orsinum had more content and much better content and Orsinium needs to be the bar

They did do some things right....The West Weld is beautiful, as is Skingrad...in fact Skingrad is what Daggerfall should have been...but while a lot of love was shown to the Biomes not so much was shown in the story...and as god as my witness I hope to be never called "proxy" again.

Where ZoS goes from here I have no clue...but things need to change or rather go back to the days of Summerset and Elsweyr. Zenimax always touts their player numbers, well they won't remain if things keep heading in this direction...and it's going to be hard to buy into the MMO they are currently working on if this is how they treat their IP's after a few years....there is no motivation to try anything new if the old has been sent to the back burners

Scribing alone is a huge content upgrade. I thought West Weald was as graphically pleasing as my other two favorites Summerset and High Isle. Haven't had time to do all the quests ....... AND finish scribing. I did think High Isle quest line was the best since beginning. Will have to see how the main story line is here. I can't believe anyone is complaining already about "not enough".

I would be perfectly happy with the size of the map if there was another story DLC in Q4. But as it is, and as Syldras said above and a few others, it's just an extreme reduction of all content for the same price as in previous years (much less area, much less quests both in the main quest and in the number of side quests).

I've waited a whole year now for a new region and a new story to come and what we got is supposed to be enough for another year? Content that people have already played through in 4 hours!

The scribing system may be a big new system they've developed, but I can't imagine it being something that will excite a wide range of players (apart from those who have been clamoring for spellcrafting for years). My first impression of it is that it's a horrific grind.

Meh you guys are spoilt. I play Star Trek Online and the latest season from them is 1 TFO that takes 7 minutes and one story that takes 30 minutes, as well as a species change token system that doesn't work and has been locked until they can fix it LMAO, granted that is free of charge to everyone but content in this game is absolutely massive compared to STO. That's why so many of us have left STO now and play ESO instead.

I have still got most side quests to do from Necrom, I managed to get the main quest finished in time for Gold Road, but last night I spent two hours doing the first couple of scribing quests alone. I spent another hour just walking around Skingrad and admiring the amazing beauty of the place (check out the furniture vendor by the way for some awesome and cheap gardening items).

Our guild is normally so busy in the evenings running events that it's rare I can find time to quest which is why it takes me longer, and I know I'm going to have to explain scribing multiple times to several people who can't get it. I appreciate the artistry of the zone and the stories. Compared to other zones it doesn't initially seem as large I will admit that, but it's big enough and if you take your time and read everything it can easily last a long time. I am not disappointed by my purchase at all.

After everything, my Arcanist has content to play from 10 years ago until now and will take me years to play through all the quests again, I started playing in closed beta and can't remember the quests now so most of the game feels like new content to me.

Just my two cents for what they are worth.

They told us last year that they reduce Q3 and Q4 for more bug fixing, more polished content and bigger chapters. Chapter is not bigger, is much smaller. In Western Skyrim we have 19 wayshrines and there are a lot of space between them. We also have Blackreach which is quite big. In Weast Weald we have 14 wayshrines and some of them are seconds away form each other (they put more than needed to hide how small zone is). Even scrybying questline is mostly about reusing old locations.

Let's be honest - they cut yearly content by half but with same prices for everything. It's not even higher quality, because we have this year A LOT of really game breaking bugs and expolits with many bans along the way. It's obvious that they are more focused on new IP and personally I feel treated like stupid kid, when they try to sell these changes as something better.

We all see what it is. We are not blind. You can write whatever you want, but facts are facts. There are much less content.

Didn't felt chapters size since Elsweyr, they're all so small and blocked out to compare. Just ride Orsinium for awhile, it's night and day. Also fascinating to see that it's still year-long-story but dragged out, words about going back to solid chapters were just a fluke as of now (while still continuing stating people love them).

STO content is free, that is true, but the content drops have been like this since the Jem Hadar species launch in 2018, so that's 6 years now. In addition, STO is pay to win, which is how they get their cash, ESO isn't, I'd sooner pay for an expansion for a measly £40 than spend hundreds gambling on lock boxes.

They are both MMOs that I play, so I will decide if the comparison is valid thank you very much.

and as god as my witness I hope to be never called "proxy" again.

    [Snip]

So they are going to call us “proxy” in this? 2 years ago, Deadlands made me rage quit the game (for 2 years, it was that bad) because Lyranth and those other lowly Daedra insects (all of which I could CRUSH, reduce to dust, return to nothingness, with the mere flick of a finger) called me “liTtLe mORtaL” on too many times. Do they think players like to be insulted and reduced? :D I sure don't. What do you know ZoS? Maybe I am a darn demi-goddess, and, by my very achievements and powers, I basically am.

I so loath being reduced to the likeness of an imbecile child fresh out of tutorial in every ESO story. We have bested every threat, defeated numerous daedric princes, and still nobody knows us, and we are just a pawn in every story, until we might receive two or three lines of recognition at the end that it would not have been possible without us.

I could go on and on about how much I despise the [Snip] writing in ESO, and how it embarrasses me as a writer myself, that someone can even put dialogue the likes we are exposed to on paper. Even during my creative infancy, had it not occurred to me to write like that.

Which leads me to my final lament: that I lose a brain cell one quest at a time. Every time, we are reminded what just happened, or what that means, or who that was, or what that might entail. It’s like watching a bad movie where nothing is left to imagination. We have a decades-deep ocean of good and bad examples from movies, games and shows available to learn as writers; even so, in 2024, some writers still make the same mistakes others have made before. I get it... they endeavor to let people stop and continue quests as they please, but this is what we have those “can you remind me of what we just learned?” options for. Most of us do not have the attention span of a fruit fly, and we actively play a quest step in one go. ZoS should not tailor everything around those who leave after each line of dialogue.

I am sorry. I love the game; I love the lore, but this has been burning in me for years now, and I can’t tell my husband, because I don’t want to destroy his fun, provided he has it. (He ragequit Deadlands for the same reason as I, though)

I also replay old quests on alts sometimes (which is a thing that makes me realize quality differences between base game, Summerset and the latest chapters even more, btw), but that doesn't matter - the new chapter was the same price as older chapters while having less content. That just doesn't seem right.

Is that the epilogue? Because in another thread someone mentions that to trigger that last questline, you don't only have to finish both Necrom and Gold Road, but also both prologues.
