I've had my share of salty messages as well so yeah. Its unfortunate we have to deal with those things however I remain hopeful still, for some reason, that as time moves on maybe we'll get some good news later on this year regarding PvP developments.

The Trueflame Sword took 70 or so casts with two fishing buffs on.

I've done 150+ dolmens now... no staff.

I've done 60+ geysers now.... no staff. Actually got a migraine looking at all the particle effects and had to stop.

I haven't even started the Vvardenfell WBs yet.

I'll be real... this event feels awful. The 10th anniversary event in Amsterdam felt like a joyful celebration, because it was. This doesn't feel like a joyful celebration. It feels like tedious torture. I'd rather be crunching numbers and organizing reports at work than doing this.

Combining exceedingly low drop rates with FOMO time crunch... stuff like this makes me glad I'm not a game designer. I wouldn't have the heart to do this to paying customers.

Also, I don't think this kind of barbarism is good for player retention. Maybe it's good for short-term "engagement numbers" to wave at The Suits during a quarterly review meeting, but l can't fathom a positive long-term effect from this. The people doing geysers in Summerset today were congratulating lucky players on gaining their freedom. One bloke was openly snarling about spending 26 hours over 4 days and getting nothing, and getting angry at people sharing their RNG fortune. Others joined him. They were very much not happy campers.

When zone chat is a mix of comments about slavery and exceedingly heated bitterness, it seems like something has gone amiss.

One last anecdote, though: someone in chat speculated whether the style pages will pop up in the Bags of Yesteryear in 2025. I expected zone chat to have people saying "better not after all the time I have sunk into this," but nope. Not one person. A few said that if they knew the pages would be in those bags, they'd stop torturing themselves immediately. Others said: "I hope so. People with actual LIVES should be able to enjoy these style pages, too." No objections raised at all.

Eh. Doesn't seem great. Forums are usually not too indicative of the overall community, but this thread reminds me a lot of zone chat (only less openly miffed).

Camp at one boss or try to rotate between two bosses.

I had two rotations between queens consort and the nix ox

OR

between queens consort and the siren nixad.

Increased my boss farm rate from one boss every 5 minutes to approximately one boss every 3 minutes.

Got true flame with about 90 casts, sadly I only caught 2 unique rare fish from the zone so I'll have to do more fishing another time. I'll do domens a little until my most recent character hits fg 10,then I'll stop.

Ran 56 more dolmens and about 14 geysers. Still nada. Brings me up to 200+ of the former and 75ish of the latter, total. I'm done for the day. My head hurts and I'm sneering in disgust at the game more than anything else. I used to like doing these things. Now I never want to see them again.

I hope those engagement numbers look great for corporate. Congrats, guys and gals.

The funny thing is that I just beat Saints Row 2022 out of morbid curiosity, and thought it was awful. After this mind numbing tedium, I feel more charitable towards it. Not a lot more charitable, but a bit. Perspective, I suppose. Edit addition: sure, it's in a different genre of game, but it didn't make me do the same activity 275 times in a row with no end in sight. Because let's face it... geysers are just dolmens with sea motifs. And as for a light at the end of the tunnel... the awful probability doesn't take into account past efforts, as far as I know. It's not like 1 in 300 becomes 1 in 299 after the first failed attempt, and 1 out of 298 the next. No, each try is independent of the others. You could get the worm staff on dolmen 1. You could fail to get it a thousand times. Just pure random chance, and it reminds me that I never liked that the MMO genre so wholeheartedly embraces tedium as a design feature.

Cynic mode here: why remove duplicate motif pages from the loot tables until a player completes a set? Then he or she would have less reason to spend $42.99 on 5,500 crowns to escape the tedious grind. And why give the player 5,500 crowns instead of the 5,000 he or she needs? Because you always want the player to have leftover crowns, to encourage buying more crowns to use the leftover ones up. You know, like getting another batch of crowns to escape the Mages Guild book grind on yet another alt. Hurrah!

In other words, tedium encourages buying your way out of said tedium. It's a sad, lamentable aspect of the entire genre. Create a problem (limited storage space and huge amounts of crafting materials, creating a tedious juggling game regarding inventory) and then sell a monetized solution to the problem YOU YOURSELF CREATED and imposed on the player (the solution being ESO Plus). But... you're not selling these style pages. You didn't do the usual "buy 'em with event tickets to get out from under it... but we won't give you enough tickets to get them all, so you'll have to buy event tickets at $2.25 a pop and each page will cost 5 tickets. Pay up, my sweet lil' whale" monetized solution thing this time. You created a problem, with the only solution being to pound our heads against the wall until it gives.

I'm just stunned by it. The only reason I can fathom is engagement figures. I can't think of any other reason. I mean, I've heard elitism bandied about... but who is going to brag about spending 65 hours to get 5 style pages that will get used on alternative costume 3 of alt 5 and alternative costume 2 of alt 7? What is there to brag about?

Eh. Not a genre I'd want to work in. My heart would never be in it.

Have a friend who has spent the past 3 days almost solidly killing wb for the Sunna’rah staff and had no luck yet.

It’s a really dreadful way to sap the enjoyment out of an event.

I’m just camping one boss. Generally whichever boss is the daily. I wish there was a viable way to rotate through them, or at least some indication if they were up like the Dragons and Dolmens have.

Ul’vor staff was just under 100 geysers.

I credit my improved rng down to watching fallout at the same time. Think Bethesda blessed with me some special commitment buff. Would 100% recommend.

I've spent the whole time on geysers (when I wasn't doing other dailies for boxes) and finally got that one last night. Didn't count how many I did, though.

That's the only style I was *really* interested in so I focused on that. I've been trying dolmens today, and probably try fishing.
Not even going to try Vvardenfell WB... most of them are a pain to get to and having 5 min between bosses is too much waiting when I could be doing other dailies.

I didn't keep track of the exact number of attempts but roughly in terms of time:

Ul’vor Staff: ~3 hours
Staff of Worms: ~3 hours
Trueflame: ~1 hour
Sunna'rah and Barbas' Helm: I just started on them and I've spend about an hour so far without getting either.

For me the fishing was the worst by far just because I personally have a huge disdain for fishing and have never enjoyed it in any MMO I've ever played and honestly have no clue why it's been an omnipresent fixture in all of them. The WB farm I also foresee as problematic because the 5 minute respawn timers are not enough let you try and kill multiple bosses which means you just have to sit and camp one and that's super boring. The dolmen/geyser circuits were of course also incredibly boring but at least they feel like a more active and engaging pursuit. I will say, however, that I intended to use this event to level an alt but quickly realized that this would mean being unable to get event boxes from boss kills due to the asinine loot limit of 12 per kill. No other game I've ever played has had something like that.

Overall I am not at all happy with this event as I generally dislike excessive grinding in MMOs, that's more of an A-RPG thing. It's also an especially bad idea to make an entire anniversary event revolve around that, especially a 10 year milestone one. Doesn't exactly respect player time.

i wish fishing could have the option to auto reel in, the closest that comes is the addons that notify when you need to reel in, which do help significantly, though you still need to pay a little attention to it

Barbas Helmet: 15 minutes = 3 bosses
Trueflame: 1,5 hours = 20 fishing spots

Trueflame Sword: My fishing was even more spread out and varied in what perks I did or didn’t use so I can’t provide reliable info there.
