Any Plans for a Werewolf Grimoire in the Future?

During the April 5, 2024 livestream, we saw a preview of all of the Scribing skills introduced in 2024, but certain skill lines — notably Werewolf — were not given a Grimoire. Because werewolves are only allowed to slot and use Werewolf skills, and there are no Grimoires made for the Werewolf skill line in the Gold Road Chapter, werewolves are not able to use the Scribing system at all this year. Are there any plans to introduce new Grimoires for other skill lines in the future?

We've known this since the chapter preview in January unfortunately, they told content creators the skill lines they were creating Grimoires for would be focussed on universal skill lines first. They actually said back then it would be the 6 weapons, soul magic, mages, fighters, assault, and support. I'm actually surprised they appear to not have done support and went with 2 soul magic skills instead, but I think this is because they ended up splitting the idea they had for the announced "Soul Touch" into 2 abilities, 1 as an aoe (Soul Burst) and 1 as the original idea for single target spammable/taunt/cc, etc (Wield Soul, formerly called Soul Touch).

When asked about classes, they gave basically a "maybe". WW is sort of in between as a sub class, so I can understand why it's not this year, but could come next year.

ZOS isn't going to confirm or deny your question because they're not going to shoot themselves in the foot by locking their future in for this system, just like they didn't answer questions about the future of Companions, Tales of Tribute, or Mythics.

However, as it's a new system, ZOS has shown a history of iterating on said systems each year after release. The intent behind content like this, and content like Infinite Archive, is something they can expand upon with time rather than 1 and done type of content you can farm in a week and never touch again. Just like any of those other system mechanics at launch, they start off with essentially a "starter pack".
    • TOT had 8 decks, they release 1 per year, we're at 11, so it will be 12 with the chapter.
    • Companions started with 2, we get 2 per year, we're at 6, so it will be 8 by U43 or U44.
    • Mythics I won't bother counting, but it's about 5-7 per year, this will be year 4, so I'm guessing there will be around 20-25 of them.

My guess is the future would look like:
    • 2025 = 5 skills = Vampire, WW, Psijic Order, Undaunted, and Support.
    • 2026 = 7 skills = 1 for each class, based in 1 of their 3 skill lines.
    • 2027 = 7 skills = 1 for each class, based in 1 of their 3 skill lines.
    • 2028 = 7 skills = 1 for each class, based in 1 of their 3 skill lines.
    • 2029 = Repeat process from the beginning each year or until they feel it's enough or a newer mechanic comes along, 6 skills for the 6 weapons, etc.

Since they've shown that they can support multiple Grimoires for the same skill line, I don't think it's out of the question that they might introduce more Grimoires for skill lines they've already covered. They might even make new Grimoires for skill lines which don't have Active Abilities, such as Legerdemain, Thieves Guild, Dark Brotherhood, Scrying, Excavation, all Racial and Crafting skill lines, and so on. Maybe we could get more abilities for the Armor skill lines in the form of Grimoires?

Whatever the case, I sincerely hope ZOS realizes by now that due to the limitations of the Werewolf skill line, Werewolf players can't use any of the above because they need one made specifically for the Werewolf skill line. No one else in the game suffers this problem.

The Werewolf changes on the first week of the PTS are insightful. Werewolf tanking is legitimized by ZOS, so if Werewolf ever were to get a Grimoire, then Taunt may be a permitted Script for it. Further, the idea that ZOS wants Werewolf to use all of their skills (Roar and its morphs were buffed for this purpose, where they weren't often used before) would give the impression that if ZOS were to design a Werewolf Grimoire, it'd have to be appropriately thematic and useful for the playstyle.

In other words, a Werewolf Grimoire would have to be useful, given Werewolf's limited bar space. Given that Roar now augments Piercing Howl, I'd imagine that most Werewolf users would use those two skills together while swapping out a skill like Hircine's Bounty or Infectious Claws for a customizable Werewolf Grimoire.

I've made a poll here about which Werewolf skills players might swap out for a Werewolf Grimoire, as well as listed designs for potential Werewolf Grimoire skills.

Just a small correction: last year they released two Tales of Tribute decks, Almalexia with Necrom and Mora with Infinite Archive. That‘s why I fully expect them to add more Scribing skills either in Q3 or more likely in Q4. That doesn’t necessarily mean half a dozen or a dozen new skills, but they can easily do one or two new skills per update. I guess Vampire and Werewolf will get theirs simultaneously, then we have Support and Undaunted. I‘m not sure about Psijik as you still need to buy that skill line. We also have the three armor skill lines.

For classes it‘s more complicated, they need to do all of them at once that no class feels left out, but then there are three skill lines per class… the best bet is that we‘ll get Class scribing skills with next year‘s Chapter and the other skill lines sprinkled in between.

It'll be exciting to get to use a Werewolf Grimoire, what with all of the changes to Werewolf that were revealed. I do hope we get one by Q4 this year or Q2 next year, but time will tell.

Actually, reading through the PTS patch notes about how we will acquire Grimoires in general has me wondering: if we can buy Grimoires from select vendors, then any additional Grimoires added in later updates may be retroactively added to their selection, right? Maybe some Grimoires will be earned via DLC content, or at least unlocked for purchase given an achievement being unlocked. Would a Werewolf Grimoire require a werewolf-related or Hircine-related vendor or DLC/Chapter to acquire such Werewolf Grimoires, or would the regular vendors sell Grimoires for these skills?

Also, it makes me wonder why these vendors would sell Criminal Act Grimoires in the first place. Not that I think it would be an issue, but it's funny imagining some of these Grimoires being illegal. There's no doubt that Vampire and Werewolf Grimoires would be labeled Criminal Acts, but what about Grimoires for other "criminal" skill lines which have never had Active Abilities, like Legerdemain, Thieves Guild, and Dark Brotherhood? Maybe when we get Class Grimoires, select Necromancer Grimoires may even be Criminal Acts, depending on whether it raises the dead. Regardless, the notion of Grimoires potentially being Criminal Act skills does add a nice RP aspect to these skills.

Seeing how Scribing is playing out for everyone else really makes me wish Werewolf was one of the considered skill lines for a Grimoire at launch.

It's especially odd considering Werewolf specifically got an update to its skill line on the same update that Scibing was introduced — but while Scribing currently opens up many opportunities for non-Werewolf builds, the changes to the Werewolf skill line itself are being looked down upon by long-time Werewolf players.

Werewolf would really benefit from a Grimoire of its own, to fill some of the many holes in the playstyle.
